I was in the mood for Chinese so I searched on yelp and decide to try this place. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special. I believe it cost around $6.50. They give you a bowl of Egg Flower Soup, egg roll and rice with it. The serving of Mongolian Beef was very generous. I had enough to take home for another meal. As for the food I didn't care for the soup. Had a very heavy corn flavor. The rice and egg roll were fine. Standard Chinese restaurant fare. The Mongolian beef was ok. Its not going to win any awards but it wasn't bad. I think for the price the food cannot be beat. I think I would come back here for lunch when I get in the mood for Chinese again. Came in around the dinner rush. The restaurant was pretty full and very noisy. It echoes quite a bit and it did take raising my voice quite a bit to be heard. The decor is mediocre, simple and like most Chinese kitchens boxes of fortune cookies and food prep spill out into the dinning room. With that said the food is always so good I have to cone back. Tonight we indulged on chow mien with pork and sweet and sour pork chop with wontons for an appetizer. The wontons are just the wonton skins fried, no filling served with sweet and sour sauce. The pork chow mien had fresh vegetables and was not over oily or over cooked. The sweet and sour pork chops are fried crispy and served with the sweet and sour sauce, bell pepper, pineapple and onions along with some carrot. The food is what keeps me coming back for sure. I hate say it but you can tell if sweet n sour pork is old if it has no crunch to it and the meat is dry. They have started to skimp on shrimp which don't taste that fresh to begin with. I've been coming here since I was a kid. I've had great memories here and the food is better than most boujie places around the area. If you grew up in Carson or Long Beach, you should definitely know about this spot! Everything on the menu just feels very comforting and not a lot of places can make you feel that way. This business don't respect their customer. I tried to call to make some orders but no one pick up the phone, at least have a courtesy of picking up their phone calls wether they're busy. Although it sadness me to update this review with a downgrade, but Lucky China has changed. Since the previous owners have moved on to other things in life the new Lucky China has not been the same place. I cannot recommend this place to anyone anymore. The quality and taste of the food has gone downhill and I find myself driving to other corners of the world to get my Chinese food fix. Went here for dinner a couple of weeks ago and I was left FULL and satisfied. The portions are VERY LARGE! They have a dinner combo for two which comes with soup one entree and rice. We ordered a la carte because there were four of us. Hot N Sour Soup- one of my favorite soups. This one was on the spicy side, so don't order it if you can't handle the heat! The sweet and sour chicken was amazing! I loved the sourness of the pineapple and the sweetness of the sauce. The chicken was crunchy and juicy. The Mongolian beef was the WINNER that night!!!! The beef was JUICY and the veggies were fresh. This was one of the better ones I've had in a long time! I would go back just for this dish! Since my siblings and I had been busy with work and kids and it was a weeknight, we asked my mom to pick a restaurant she wanted to eat dinner at. It was her birthday and traditionally, she believes you have to eat noodles on your birthday for long life. So... she chose Chinese. Instead of going to our usual Chinese Food restaurant choices (and because out of the four of us, we each had our own favorites in Torrance and my mom had a church meeting in Carson), we decided on Lucky China. Ah, Lucky China, you were so popular and yummy in the 80's and 90's. Now you've aged and changed--well the only thing that has changed is the quality and flavor of the food. It's aged as they have not done anything to it since I was in High School. You can tell the wear and tear of the place. I remember when this was "the best" Chinese Food around. In fact, this was where I came with my friends from High School and their families came from High School well into my 20's but that had been it. I think they might have different owners now because I didn't recognize anyone from back in the day, the restaurant seemed to have way more non-Asian's than Asian. The servers were not warm or friendly and seemed rushed which, the restaurant is small but there were no lines or groups waiting. We ordered the following: Wonton Soup - Pretty bland and there wasn't much too it. Funny thing, there was meat but not really any wontons. Beef Broccoli - This was probably the best tasting dish of all the plates we ordered. The beef was tender; broccoli was not soggy or burnt. Mongolian Beef - This used to be my favorite and the main reason I came here. It was not as good as I remember. The meat was meh kind of chewy, a little on the sweeter side. Sweeter than I remember. I felt the green onions were not fresh and it was just an okay dish. Chicken Chow Mein - This was also another dish that was on the bland side. Could have used more vegetables and meat. BBQ Fried Rice - was good but how can you go wrong with Fried rice? Orange Chicken - My daughter and nephew are big orange chicken fans. I did not taste this but she claims it was okay and she's had better. She felt there was a lot of batter and it was very crunchy. Overall, this place could use a serious makeover, some "Bam!" in their food and a warmer reception. Portions are good, no complaints about that but their parking situation is terrible. Went here for lunch with a co-worker and she wanted Chinese food so we thought this place looked good. We can in and were seated immediately. I ordered the Kung Pao three ways, which included chicken, beef and shrimp. It also came with lots of peppers, but not too spicy. Very tasty and came with good size portions of meat. The egg flower soup was different with numerous vegetables added, carrots, peas and corn. The entree came with either white rice or fried. The food here is AMAZING. Sometimes I will crave it the whole week and the next so my mom would have to order its like two times a week. I usually will just eat the fried rice, either chicken or shrimp. Its so good I don't need to eat it with anything. The chicken can be dry though,so i usually get the shrimp. Warning though, it has alot of oil. Which i think makes it taste good. hahaha FAT! The Kun pao chicken, Mongolian beef, broccoli beef, and the sizzling rice soup are BOMB. these are all the things my family orders. There are probably other things that are good there but i haven't tried them. When someone in my household is sick my mom automatically orders the sizzling rice soup as if its a miracle worker and will heal us hahaha. gotta love her! They use to be closed on mondays but now they're open 7 days a week. SCORE! From monday through saturday they have lunch specials which ends at 3pm on those days. These lunch specials are good because they are cheaper and you get like a side of theyre rice that is just stir fried in egg, an eggroll, and a fried wonton skin. When my sister, cousins, and i were younger we would always fight for the wonton skin. I wish theyre were other Chinese restaurants that had food as good as these but i have yet to find any. I've been to Lucky China twice. First time was with a family and some visitors from out of town. That experience was so-so with nothing to rave about. I really didn't take notice of the environment until the next time around and the food wasn't anything to remember. The second time I came here was with the same family, who are some die hard Lucky China Restaurant goers. However, this time, I opened the and held door for everyone else and all I saw was a big fat "B grade" health rating. The family I came with nonchalantly walked in with no clue of what I just saw. Now, given the fact that they loved this restaurant and have been going here for years, who was I to kill their joy and put the restaurant on blast like that?! As I sat down, I couldn't help but think of the decision I made to keep my mouth shut. I just started noticing everything around me that wasn't clean. From the cups, to the plates, and even the utensils, I kept thinking about that big fat B on the front door. From where I sat, I had a clear view of the kitchen, and it just looked unsanitary. There was a trashcan next to the stove with stains all over it. Now, when a customer remembers the trashcan in the kitchen better than the food, there's a problem. Did I mention that I couldn't stop thinking about that B? Then came the food. The white rice that was served to us was old (trust me, Pacific Islanders LOVE rice, and I've been cooking rice my whole life. So I KNOW fresh/old rice when I see it). The different types of chicken we ordered tasted the same; just masked with a different sauce. We also received our food faster than usual. I thought this was weird, but come to think of it, that just means the food was either cooked fresh and extremely fast or that it's been sitting in the kitchen and waiting to be ordered.... I'll let you decide. And to top it all off, let's add the bland customer service with ol' girl who took our orders having an attitude. I mean, the least she could've done was smile. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was having a bad day. Overall, I think that was the least amount of food I ever ate at a Chinese restaurant in one sitting. Now, will I ever come back to Lucky China? When that health grade rating is an A, then I'll consider to think about it. I had to bring my son to Carson for a hair cut and this place just happens to be next door to the shop. I come here for the shrimp in lobster sauce and the orange chicken. Both are absolutely delicious. They also have really good Mongolian beef and egg rolls. Ive had better rice but it's just ok here, my opinion. Oh the potstickers are good as well. Anyway, it's pretty much always packed at lunch time so I wouldn't come at that time to dine in, unless you are ordering take out. The great thing is they have good customer service and they being your food right away. It's a small place so you can actually see cooks in the back cooking and it smells so good in there. Love this place. Over the years we've been coming since the kids were small. All adults now and we come whenever we're in town. Menu remains consistent...great food in large quantities at reasonable prices! Everything is freshly prepared. We especially love the hot bean curd dish, park chow neon, fried shrimp, sweet & sour anything, and of course their fried rice. Yum! The building is not fancy nor is the inside decor, but what chinese restaurant do you eat at and like if the decor is not modern? If you know me, I eat where the food is good. Don't impress me with B.H. type of places. The waitresses are always willing to please. I always make changes to food, like Broccoli Beef with Mongolian sauce (my favorite). Sauces on the side, Japchae with beef instead of chicken, etc.... They have all the typical chinese food from Sweet and Sour whatever, Shrimp with Lobster sauce, Chow Mien to Fried rice at reasonable prices. They are always happy to serve and that's why they've been in business for years. If you like, you can ask for kimchee. It was ok I guess. The pork chow mein was good and so was the shrimp fried rice. I'm torn between a two star and three star rating because the Mongolian beef was inedible for me. It was very fishy and tasted more like old shrimp than beef. My wife liked it (or at least pretended to) but she likes sea food. The orange chicken was tasty but by the time I went from Carson to Wilmington with it, it got really soggy. Also, $46 seemed kinda pricey for 4 dishes considering the quality but what really bothered me was the fact that we didn't even get a single fortune cookie with such a large order. Negative 100, would be my score. Food is mediocre taste-wise. However the facility is very worn out and dirty. No real sense of pride in this establishment. The tables, chairs, walls, and floors are just in deplorable conditions. I went to the ladies room with my potty trained toddler, and the toilet was worse than those at a low level gas station. Horrible. Feces all over the toilet as if it had not been cleaned in months. Mind you the pic was someone clean, because I bleached wiped it so my child would use it. The soap dispenser seemed broken as there was soap droppings on the wall and floor. The soap had not been cleaned so it seemed as crusty soap deeply set on the wall and floor. The restrooms floor was grimy and disgusting. No sanitary covers available. The trash can was just dirty. Soiled trash piled high on that trash can. My hubby had a different experience that just threw me out. The mens restroom had no soap. Empty..zero..nada. ewww... so what the heck are the Male cooks using to wash their hands after they relieve themselves. So so gross. If they dont pay attention to detail in the restroom..I can only imagine how things are in the kitchen. By the way walking out, I noticed the cooking area. The lunch and dinner specials are worth it, there is a limited menu but you get soup and extra goodies! I'm usually very generous with my yelp ratings. This place isn't horrible but two stars is supposed to mean, "Meh. I've experienced better", and that's exactly how I feel about this place. I ordered takeout, jajangmyun, shrimp fried rice, and sweet and sour pork. The noodles for the jajangmyun were very good but the sauce was too salty, almost like they put too much soy sauce in it. The shrimp fried rice on the other hand, didn't have much flavor, and it almost tasted like plain white rice. The sweet and sour pork... well I brought it home for my family and my mother took a bite and couldn't tell what it was. It was soggy, mostly breading and air, and the little bit of meat inside is so little that it's hard to tell what meat it is. Honestly, and I hate to say this, I could have got better fried rice and sweet and sour pork for a much lower price at a fast food Chinese place. For jajangmyun, i guess I should have stuck with the Korean jajangnyum places. read more

I thought this might be a good spot due to other Yelp reviews, but it isn't. While the restaurant was full of people for lunch the place and the food are bad. The space is old, dingy, torn menus with tape on them and worse. I ordered egg fo yung - I used to love that as a kid and wanted to try it again. It was really bad, didn't taste like egg or anything. The rice with the lunch combo was lame - dry and certainly not fried rice, the egg roll was tasteless, it was all tasteless. This is the not a good place to eat. I dined with someone else who didn't like their meal either. And when we both asked for a knives they said they only had one in the whole place. Wow. I wouldn't say this was just greasy, it was tasteless, no flavor, no ingredients that were worth tasting I guess. Sorry but this is not good from the outside of the place, nor inside.
