Was really craving simple Taiwanese food after work, so I stopped by here. I ordered the egg & shrimp and a side of green beans. The egg & shrimp was way too oily, I ended up having to drain a good amount of grease off before eating it. Not ideal. The green beans, though, were solid. Really good flavor and cooked well. I skipped the rice, and with just those two dishes it came out to about $40 before tip. On the bright side, I had enough leftovers for two more meals, so it kind of balances out. If you come here, definitely ask for less oil...the default is pretty heavy.

I was craving popcorn chicken so I went on a hunt through yelp for a spot nearby. Canaan's lunch special comes with popcorn chicken, rice, broccoli, and tea. The chicken is perfectly spiced and the lunch combo is very filling. This was perfect for my cravings and it's now in my local lunch spot rotation.

This is a small restaurant with a very helpful and attentive staff. There were not very many patrons at the time of our visit, but the timing of their service was perfect. We ordered the Canaan fish special, orange chicken, shrimp and chicken dumplings, honey walnut shrimp, and assorted chow mein. The Canaan fish special was my favorite of the entrees. It was perfectly savory with the most subtle crunch and very flavorful. The chicken and shrimp dumplings and the orange chicken need a bit more pizzazz to the flavor, but they were cooked well. The honey walnut shrimp was also delicious but a bit more saucy than I'm used to, but I would definitely order it again. The assorted chow mein was my second favorite dish although I do wish the portion of the chow mein was a bit bigger because my family and I inhaled that pretty quickly. I do hope to be back to taste more options.

I've been driving past here for some time now and I finally got the chance to stop by. I ordered the passion fruit tea, pop corn chicken and egg rolls. The service was great from the get go and the interior felt welcoming. The teas were delicious and food came out fresh. The popcorn chicken was actually spicy and not just an advertisement, which I love. The portions of the food was actually great too. I will definitely be coming back to sit down and eat soon!

Canaan Cafe is probably the only Authemtic Taiwanese cuisine in the South Bay. Only a small portion of the menu has Taiwanese food, the other half is just regular Chinese food items like Brocoli beef and orange chicken, etc. When I crave for Stinky fried tofu, I get my cravings here without going to SGV or Cerritos. You could taste the stinky but fortunate for those around me, they don't stink that bad, lol! They have braised pork rice bowls but it's small portion of braised pork and a whole lot of rice, and no egg. Flavor is good but I like the ones at Tea Station better. Braised Beef noodle soup is good and the beef are meaty. Very small Cafe with a small parking lot but usually ok to find empty parking spot.

Really tasty Chinese food in Lomita, they have a few other locations that are also really good. My husband and I ordered the string beans, popcorn chicken, and salt pepper tofu. They all hit the right spot so would definitely comeback for the same dish again. The service was quick so that was a plus. The restaurant environment itself is pretty average for your Chinese restaurant. I do wish they have lunch special like the Cerritos location though.

Love their filet mignon stir fried dish!! Maybe pricey but totally worth it. I can't still stop thinking about the dish. Pork shrimp siumai was delicious too. A bit large. Everything is not so cheap but love their quality and variety of menu. Really wished they just give rice for free for entries like these... New customer who follows their instagram gets a free drink and who leaves their info gets a $5 gift card. They want you to add money to the card and they will give you even more credit but I don't live that close so didn't go that far. Parking is fine in the small strip mall but it may get busy depending on how busy the other stores are too.

Hubby and I came for a birthday lunch as my favorite food ever is Taiwanese. I loooove beef noodle soup. I go to different places to try out their beef noodle soup. The meat here was good. Wish the serving size was bigger and broth a bit more stewed for flavor. Not all places have Taiwanese basil popcorn chicken. This was the best of what we ordered here. Very few places have stinky tofu. I love it when you can smell the fermentation a block away. Alas, this isn't the smell neighborhoods or some other patrons like. You just can't get stinky tofu like you can in Taiwan. So, here, the stinky level was low. If you put your face in it, you kind of get a whiff. Fried tofu is still something I thoroughly enjoy. We would come back with the kids.

Ordered plenty of plates the favorites being the cannan special fried fish, Mongolian beef , and the filet mignon those didnt last in our group. Everything came out hot and fresh which Is the way wok cooked food is meant to he eaten. Food wasnt greasy at all and full of flavor 10/10 will come back.

We came here with a party of 9 on a Saturday lunch and the restaurant was easily able to accommodate us. Got to try a ton of things on the menu because of our group size. Shared parking lot is a bit small, but there was plenty of nearby street parking. The food: Recommended- Canaan Special Fish Fillet - battered and nicely fried, finished off with a sweet glaze Braised Egg Tofu w Minced Pork Hot Pot - I love egg tofu - it's an eggy silken tofu that comes in a tube. In this dish, they lightly coat with starch and deep fry. Then it braises in a soy sauce based liquid. This dish was so saucy, definitely get it with some rice. Eggplant with Basil - fantastic version of this eggplant dish, with large pieces of tender but not mushy eggplant String Bean with Ground Pork Ok dishes: Assorted fried rice Dan Dan Noodle - thought the flavor was good, a ton of ground peanut, a bit liquidy, which threw me off Pork & Vegetables Wonton Noodle Soup Shrimp & Pork Sui Mai Green Onion Pancake Fried Stinky Tofu - this one is interesting because it's hard to find on menus. It is slightly stinky and worth trying if you need to stretch that itch. Steamed Shanghai Dumpling - I don't think the XLB is their specialty. Positives were flavor was ok and it comes with thinly sliced ginger. The skin was a bit doughy and not much soup. The previous time we came, I recall ordering the French Style Beef Fillet Mignon and that was pretty good (also fits in their wheelhouse of what they do well). I think you can have a fantastic meal here if you stick with what the restaurant does well.

This is a small hole in the wall restaurant tucked in the corner of a strip mall. The wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating as we had a large group and didn't make reservations. We ordered several dishes such as the Canaan special fish fillet, eggplant with basil, Green beans, scallion pancake, xiao long bao, sticky tofu, fried rice, and tofu with pork hot pot. With the unassuming atmosphere, I wasn't sure what to expect but the food was really good. The Canaan special fish fillet is a must order. It was tender without any fishy odor or flavor and battered just right. It was so tasty. I would be happy with that dish with a bowl of rice. I would definitely go back just for the fish alone!

There was eight of us, and we ordered a lot of dishes to share. I'm gonna break them down, but I have to say that nothing we had was not top quality. I haven't had food like this in years. First was the Kung pow chicken. Wow, it was just a perfect blend of spice and the chicken was perfect. No gristle. And that is the theme of this entire meal. I hate gristle, this Kung pow was sublime. Sweet-and-sour pork. I basically given up on this dish because no one gets it right, and it's always an excuse to hide gristle and fat. Not in this case. It was super tasty and for the first time I can remember there wasn't 1 ounce of gristle in this meat. It was just crispy tasty wonderful. Hong Kong style chow mein with pork. Another dish I haven't had in years, and this place nailed it. Reminded me of my old China house restaurant in Alameda. I mean it was really good. The pork was awesome, the gravy was perfect. What a great dish. The fried rice was excellent. Not greasy at all. I believe we got a combination fried rice and man was it good. Shrimp with lobster sauce. This was excellent, God this dinner was just so great, and this dish was right in there with the rest of them. I can't wait to go visit family again so I can eat at this place. It was spectacular. Oh and the last thing, the hot and sour soup was amazing. Again haven't had this type of food since I left the Bay Area. I give this meal a triple wow!!!

Located on the corner of PCH and Penn Ave, the restaurant features its own 16-car parking lot. Inside, the décor is quite casual, and it is spacious enough to accommodate 50 guests. Upon arrival, the friendly staff promptly guided us to our table and brought menus and water right away. While perusing their menu, we found out they have stinky tofu. Yes, stinky tofu! The dish, with its pungent aroma and unique flavor, caused the ultimate sensory conflict between the taste and smell when we tried it for the first time. So, in a benign masochistic way, we went ahead and ordered their Crispy Spicy Stinky Tofu with Pork. When the dish arrived, we apologized profusely to our next table patrons for the smell, and even offered to let them try it, which they unhesitatingly and politely refused. This restaurant's version was slightly different. The fried tofu cubes had a tougher texture, less airy, and were lightly flavored. The sauce was nicely spicy, but the ground pork was present only in spirit because we couldn't find it. Overall, it was not too bad, but it could be better. Besides the tofu dish, we also ordered their Seafood in Crab Meat Sauce Noodle. This was an interesting dish. The soup came separately from the noodles and starchy sauce, which had shrimp and fish fillet toppings. This setup allows you to dilute the soup's thickness to your liking. The noodles were nicely al dente, the sauce was well seasoned, and the shrimp and fish filets had a great texture. Crab meat sauce was blended in the broth and kind of MIA. Lastly, we ordered Black Pepper Seafood Rice Cake. The sauce was pleasantly savory, a tad sweet, and slightly spicy from black peppers. The sliced rice cakes had a perfect texture: neither too soft nor too hard. The pieces of squid and fish filet toppings had a very nice consistency. The prices were reasonable and the food was very good. Recommended.

After reading some of the…read morereviews, I felt compelled to leave my own because my experience was the complete opposite. A common complaint seems to be that the dim sum portions are "too big." Personally, I don't see how that's a negative. While dining here, I saw families with children enjoying the food without any issues--they simply cut the dumplings into smaller pieces before eating them. Larger portions mean you're getting more for your money, and the quality certainly backs it up. The service was outstanding from start to finish. The staff stayed on top of everything, from bringing out dishes promptly to keeping water glasses filled and checking in to make sure we were having a great experience. They made us feel genuinely welcomed and comfortable throughout our visit. The restaurant also has a modern, upscale dim sum atmosphere that feels inviting without being pretentious. As for the food, the Shrimp Har Gow and Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai were absolutely fantastic. The ingredients tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and every bite was satisfying. At the end of the day, I'd much rather spend $10 on high-quality, jumbo-sized dim sum that actually fills me up than spend $20 on tiny portions at DTF. For me, Lunasia is an easy 5/5 and has become my favorite spot for dim sum.
