It was good until they changed the menu to only pizza and hot dogs which is nothing special.

They were perfectly happy to have us sit at the bar while we ordered takeout. The woman behind the bar was very friendly and confirmed that our choices were good: pollo en mole poblano (chicken with mole sauce) and lomo de puerco en salsa verde y nopales (pork loin in green sauce with cactus). The TV at the bar had on a show dubbed in Spanish, which was interesting to watch while we waited for our food. The food was entirely worth the wait! I've had pork with nopales elsewhere, but when I had it here I immediately understood what the other restaurants were trying to do. The pork was thin, but well seasoned and still juicy. The sauce was spicy and brought out fruitiness in the pickled nopales. The mole was also very good. The chicken was falling off the bone, and the rich flavors of chocolate and spices shone through. And the handmade tortillas were piping hot inside the neatly folded foil. I am telling everyone I know who drives between the Twin Cities and Chicago about this place. It's a gem, and I'm so glad we went!

I ordered a ground beef chimichanga. I was given a torta. I said to the waitress "I don't think this is what I ordered." She said "torta?" I said I ordered a ground beef chimichanga. She looked at the ticket and laughed and said "yes you did!" So my fiance started eating her fajitas while my food was being prepared. The fajitas weren't BAD, but they weren't good either. Very bland, absolutely zero seasoning on them. It wasn't long before my food arrived. The rice and beans were actually really good. The "salad"...I swear, it's the bagged salad mix from Walmart. Lettuce, red cabbage and carrots. A tiny little cup of sour cream and another with guacamole. The chimichangas were nasty. I got three small ones, very thick breading, or whatever it was. It definitely wasn't a deep fried tortilla. Each one had a small amount of ground beef and a large amount of semi melted cheese inside. I was actually starting to feel nauseous eating them. And I 100% believe they were frozen. I've never seen chimichangas like these before. Of course you are given chips and salsa. The chips were approaching stale. One of the salsa's was delicious, the other was like watery ketchup. Overall, a few hits, a few average items, and some of the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten.

The menu was great, the food was very good and the owner was super friendly.the Greta thing is that you can suck into the adjacent store on the property and grab a cerveza and the food truck will give you a couple plastic cups, limes, and salt if you need it. You could eat it on site or take it to go and eat in the grassy park at a picnic table a block away! The guac and chips, carne asada tacos on corn or flour tortillas were money! We will be back.

We pulled into the parking lot and found a great menu with really reasonable pricing and a super-friendly man in the window. We ordered a Quesidilla and 2 Tacos, both with a bottle of Mexican Coke. I then noticed Churros on the menu board and had to have one of those too. Everything was great! This was a perfect meal for us as we ate at the picnic table in the parking lot. Atmosphere? Actually, really nice! We could people watch and carry on a nice conversation with the man in the window; I wish I remembered his name, but his pride in his work and food was extraordinary! Finding a great Mexican food truck in this little town is a treat, and not one to be missed! No accessibility issues since it is outside and open to all.

What I will begin to say about El Primo is they are a hard working family owned hole in the wall…read morethat Sun Prairie should be grateful they operate there. I see plenty of cops, firemen, and paramedics going here for their lunches. Quesadillas - I have no idea what cheese they put in them, but you get that, guac, and amazing meat. I always go asada but the quesadilla size is absolutely fair for the price and pairs amazing with both their salsa verde and Rojo. The cooks are always working hard and for the bulk they get, the portions are always over stuffed. Now let's talk about those burritos, ... if you have never had Al Pastor, get Al Pastor. It seasons the already seasoned rice and soaks into the burrito perfectly with out the damn sogginess. They wrap it better than chipotle and that damn thing is so stuffed you honestly say "I only paid this much?!" Pair it with the Salsa rojo with each bite and you'll be hooked. They do come with sour cream, "crema", I always say no crema. It ruins the flavor profile of the Al Pastor. Alright, now the thing you were wanting to know, tacos. Authentic. Cantina. Flat top grilled meat and tortillas (yes they heat them on the flat top as the meat and oil. Tortillas are typical maize but I am a harina Chico myself (that's flour boy for you plebeians, just kidding but it's good to note that if you prefer it tell them "Puedo tener tortillas de harina" because I believe you should make the effort to learn someone's language if you're going to partake in their culture and food. These are hard working and sincere people! You may ask now, "okay dude but what meat should I get?" Honestly, you'll never go wrong with Asada but the Lomo de res (rib eye) is soooo rich and so good! Always tell them to put everything on the taco "con todo" (cilantro and onion) grab a lot of salsa and enjoy. We usually get a side of Pico de Gallo which they can do, as well as some Jarritos. The Pico is for the tacos. Look I can go on and on and on about this place but honestly until you go, you will either say "this guy is smoking crack" or "damn he is 100% right" as a former Los Angelino, again, Sun Prairie should be thanking El Primo from breaking up the monotony of "bar and grill" that Wisconsin as a whole has too much of. It was not fried either; just a soggy freaking mess. Looked like they dipped, but didn't bother to fry it. If you are fulfilling an order for delivery, WHY wouldn't you fry it and use two tortillas? Simple common sense. The street corn was bland. My drink was missing. The churros were good. Will not order from here again.

I chose asada and was satisfied by the tenderness of the meat, the bread was the right choice, the toppings were great and the side of fries were nice and crisp. It also came with a side of green and red salsa, which were both excellent. I also got the elote in a cup which was a good size for the price, and the horchata was well made but I wish it had a bit more cinnamon. They have a great sized menu so there are more options I'll need to come back and try. I've already got my eye on enchiladas de mole (a personal fave that I struggled to find outside the Midwest) and pozole, which I'm sure will be popular when the cold weather hits. Service was great and efficient. I took my order to go but there were a handful of tables available. There is a small parking lot that is shared with a couple other businesses but nearby street parking shouldn't be awful if it comes to it.
