my friend and i wanted same day piercings, but it's hard to find in northampton. we booked an appointment for the next day with Lindsay. they got their ears pierced, and i wanted my navel [redone after 9 years]. landon helped us with setting our appointment and picking our jewelry. for the navel, they have you choose your top pick for jewelry and a backup 2nd style in case your anatomy doesn't work with the jewelry you picked. i was sure which jewelry i wanted, and because i had my navel done before, i was confident that i'd get my first pick. when it comes time to get my piercing, lindsay was very thorough when it came to explaining everything and making markings for placement. unfortunately she said my anatomy wouldn't work with my first pick for jewelry, meaning i had to spend $100+ on a piece i wasn't thrilled about if i wanted to move forward. i almost cancelled, but she said she could potentially place it in a way so that when it healed (in a year), i would be able to use the jewelry i wanted. i've had over 16 piercings in the past, but i removed most of them, so it had been about 10 years since i had any piercing. i'm pretty experienced though. i picked the flower floating navel jewelry and it looked better than i anticipated. i did end up having issues with the disc which caused swelling, discharge and bleeding. my friend loved their ears, and it was very quick minus the markings. i do like that she took her time making sure the markings were in the perfect spot. the place is cute, filled with quality jewelry and decorated with crystals, snacks while you wait. update after 3 months: i had issues healing with the disc, and when i wanted a piercer to check it out at their sister store, they wanted a deposit to look at it. i had a lot of pain and was very nervous if it was infected. i was somewhat surprised they wouldn't even let you walk in without paying, but not so much as they wouldn't take a same day appointment and had a similar attitude. i had to go elsewhere where they looked at it (for free!) and gave me my options, i paid for the ball they switched out the disc for, and surely tipped due to great service. it did feel like they didn't care for our business initially, and they look at you a certain way if you look like you don't have any experience with body mods. i know that is typical for many piercing places which is why i gave them the benefit of 3 stars and not less. read more

I got a tattoo with Ian some time ago and went back less than a year later to get another one in the same style and size. This time I was charged almost twice what I paid the first time. On top of that, Ian got noticeably irritated when I wasn't happy with the placement and tried to convince me it looked "fine." I left feeling taken advantage of for returning to the same artist for the same style of tattoo and being overcharged. First let me start with the shop and the people that work behind the counter. They were all SUPER nice and friendly, especially Christie or Kristen (I am so sorry that I am spacing in her name but she has lilac hair and was SOOOOO nice!). She helped me pick out the right jewelry and worked with me on how I wanted it placed (I got a double helix on my left ear), before even going to see Alycia, the piercer. The wait was not too bad, and the waiting area upstairs has a couple of fishtanks, some couches and some tables with chairs. All areas of the shop were super clean. Now on to Alycia. She was so friendly, explained everything that she was going to do. Talked to me about aftercare. We talked about placement and even readjusted where to place the stud I was getting, so it didn't get lost on my ear. She had me lay down, which is a plus because then you can totally relax. Again, she explained what she was going to do, had me take a deep breath and when exhaling thats when the needle went through. Honestly, for me, the pain lasted all of 3 seconds, if that, for each piercing. I think what hurt most was putting the post on the stud and not the actual piercing! I would highly recommend coming to Lucky's and seeing Alycia for any piercing! I'm on in NoHo for a couple more weeks and ya never know, I just may be back to see her before I leave for one more piercing! read more

It had been 30 years since I got the first set of holes in my lobes, so I was a little nervous about getting the second set. Not to worry, the Lucky's staff set me at ease immediately. The shop is clean and the counter staff welcoming and helpful. I was able to find exactly the jewelry I wanted. Steph was my piercer and they were great! I felt well taken care of. They explained all the placement options but didn't pressure me into anything in particular. When I indicated I wanted something "classic" they placed it exactly how I wanted. The experience of being pierced was exactly as described, "just a big pinch", and it didn't even bleed. It was super convenient that I could buy the aftercare solution in-house, too. I truly appreciate the shop's COVID-19 protocols, I felt safe and like everyone there takes the pandemic seriously. And as an aside, the menstrual products in the bathroom are a wonderful touch - so thoughtful and welcoming. They also set you up poorly by only using barrel backings for beginner studs, meaning you have to go back to get shorter backings 4 weeks after you get pierced or they'll heal at an angle. It costs $15 for service, and $10 per new backing they provide. It ends up being $215 total for two simple earlobe piercings. Would not recommend for those on a budget or with common sense. Otherwise lovely staff and good vibes, but incredibly overpriced. read more

While searching for piercings shops near me, this shop came up multiple times. After checking out their website, I absolutely loved the way they approached all piercings and decided to book an appointment for a long awaited industrial piercing. I was surprised to see that I could choose almost any time I wanted, even the next day. I selected my appointment time a week in advance and was immediately sent a confirmation email and reminder to complete all necessary forms online. They sent me confirmation emails that the forms went through and three days in advance sent me a reminder email for my piercing. It was really great to receive all of these reminders and confirmations leading up to the appointment. When I arrived, I rang their bell and was let in by a wonderful woman who was excited to get me going. She was clearly very passionate about her work and I signed in, checked for filled forms, and selected my jewelry all in a matter of minutes. Then I was ushered upstairs to the piercing section, which was spacious and contained two beautiful couches for me to wait on. I was almost instantly greeted by my piercer, Alycia who talked me through the piercing process, did a little anatomy check to make sure an industrial was right for me, and went to go sterilize my jewelry. The piercing room itself was playing relaxing music and Alycia while finishing her set up, talked to me about my interests and hobbies, making me feel very comfortable and relaxed. She talked me through everything from start to finish and her time marking out the piercing. I had told her a few minutes earlier that I enjoyed slightly unique placements of piercings, and she suggested that we move the industrial slightly up so it would now be at an angle for a more unique piercing location. She marked it out clearly and after my approval we began piercing. Like before, she talked me through each step and was so supportive saying things like "you've got this" and "you're a trooper". It was honestly very little pain (even less than my double helix I had pierced elsewhere) and she was so kind and nurturing. The end result turned out even better than I ever could have imagined, I'm obsessed with the piercing and so far the healing process has been the easiest I've ever had. All in all the piercing from the time I entered the shop to the time I left took 40 minutes, everyone in the shop and the environment was so kind and welcoming, I was smiling and/or laughing pretty much the whole time. Checking out was quick and effective, Alycia came down with me while another associate checked me out. I was able to add gratuity to the card. Definitely my favorite piercing shop I've ever been to (and I've been to many). I struggle with anxiety during piercings or changes, even if I want them and can get lightheaded or panicky during or after a piercing but this is the first shop I felt comfortable from start to finish. If I am ever in the area again this is my go to shop! You guys are the best! read more

If I could give Lucky's 1.5 stars I would. Just, no. I went to Lucky's back in November to get my nose pierced. First off, the wait was extremely long for a weekday and Niki, who did my piercing, seemed to not really be too interested in answering any questions I had. My very first question was if I should pierce with a hoop or a stud and she insisted that it would be okay to pierce with a hoop. Since I've always wanted a hoop, I took her word for it & let her pierce me with one. HUGE MISTAKE LISTENING TO HER. After six weeks, I developed an irritation bump above my piercing and I went back to Lucky's (this time in Cambridge) to see what the problem was. There I saw Zach where he informed me that I should switch to a stud and do chamomile tea compresses and continue cleaning the site with saline spray as normal. Finally after 4 months to make sure the bump was completely down, I went back to Lucky's to get the hoop put back in. There, Heather did this for me and she was rude and rushed the whole thing. She was extremely rough and a week after I switched out, the bump returned. After consulting with another shop (Chameleon Tattoo & Body Piercing), I'm going to let it close and get re-pierced there. I am no longer going to Lucky's. Niki gave me false info and everything after that was such a hassle and could've been prevented. Do not waste your time with this shop. So much to say, so little time. I've been to Lucky's more times that I can count and each time my experience gets better. I've been pierced or tattooed (or both) at Lucky's every year since I was 18. I was in this past weekend for two new piercings as a birthday gift to myself and I think this visit has by far been my favorite. The staff is professional, welcoming, patient, and considerate. Walking into this shop is like visiting an old friend. I am elated to see that their COVID precautions have remained since the start of the pandemic. I have to give a special shout-out to Patrice who has helped me numerous times at the front counter. I am very socially anxious and working with her to pick out jewelry, set up appointments, or just sit and wait for my turn is a breeze. She's incredibly understanding and accommodating. Additionally, the individual artists and piercers I've worked with have been so engaging, kind, fun, and down to earth. Aftercare is always a breeze for me because I follow Lucky's simple aftercare instructions to a T and if I ever have an issue, I know I can call and seek additional support or go in to the shop to have something analyzed. When it comes to taking care of a new piercing or tattoo, remember it is YOUR responsibility to follow proper protocol. Additionally, you absolutely get what you pay for. Lucky's is a piercing and tattoo studio that has been part of Northampton's landscape for about a decade. We've both had work done at Lucky's (both piercing and stretching), and we bought our head wedding attendant a tattoo by Krystof as a post-wedding thank-you present (that experience was very positive to watch). Lucky's has really had the chance to shine since getting their own Main Street storefront. Long ago, Lucky's got its start in the basement of the now-gone Just Because, a sedate leathergoods (bags, belts) shop with a pickled, Southwestern, taxidermied feel. Lucky's moved into the expansive storefront next door, and the two-floor shop has ample room for the body modification and retail activities within it. Approaching the shop, you see windows full of tattoo flash. It makes a nice, permanent backdrop for other items on display. Inside is a huge, donut-shaped glass sales counter with many small retail items inside, like tons of piercing jewelry, and vanity contact lenses (to make your pupils red, or look like a wolf's eyes, etc). The recent diversity of piercing jewelry in the world is both a blessing and a curse, since that has resulted in some really nice quality out there...and some really crappy quality. Luckily, Lucky's cuts through a lot of the crap out there, and offers a good range of quality things to stick into your body's voluntary holes. They've got precious and semi-precious metals, and they've got surgical stainless steel; they've got horn, gems (and other stones), bone, glass, and various kinds of synthetic polymers. They've got wood. They've got cute things, things that dangle, things that plug, scary things, tough-looking things, and sparkly unicorn glitter things. They've got lots of things I'm forgetting, too. On the walls, they've got shoes and clothes that are suitable for wear by subculture intersections of punk, goth, raver, anarchist, GLBT, tattoo, BDSM pinup, rockabilly, and retroclub folks, not to mention other generally weird freaky people like us. But you don't have to come from any particular walk of life to be welcomed there. It's a college town; it takes all kinds. There are a few home goods, and some handbags, and a couple of goth dolls on the second floor (where there is more tattoo flash and where they used to keep all the shoes). Near the front door is a display of stripey, skull-or-pinup-adorned mittens and hats, to help your various industrial piercings and captive bead rings stay warm enough through the New England winter that they don't freeze your holes off. There is no longer an air of holier-than-thou pretension in Lucky's. There's no epic battle to out-hardcore the clientele, or vice-versa. The best time to experience this breath of fresh air is when you're in the piercing chair. The most recent trip we took to Lucky's was for a reverse-PA stretch (translation: swapping smaller metal in the pants for larger metal in the pants), and because of some scar tissue, this isn't the most pleasant stretch to actuate, as a piercer or piercee. However, Zack, one of the most veteran of all of Lucky's piercers, did the job patiently, and deftly, offering encouragement and expert handwork. It took a few tries for my beloved to accept the jewelry, yet Zack didn't even blink an eye. He took his time and that made a huge difference, leading to the success of the stretch. He did suggest that I was taking the wrong approach while cheering on my beloved (by saying, "you don't have to do this," which means that I was reassuring my beloved that my beloved was in charge of the experience, and only had to continue if the desire was there). I didn't like that, because this is the first time we've ever met Zack, which would make it hard for him to know what works for us ("you don't have to do this" is exactly what my beloved needed to hear in that moment). All in all, our experience with Zack was a very positive one. He is confident, skilled, and professional, and his compassion and lack of cynicism in the face of voluntary suffering was much-appreciated. If you're looking for a clean, well-lit piercing/tattoo shop with a lovely and attractive selection of body jewelry and lifestyle doodads, excellent OSHA/CDC standards, and a pleasant, skilled staff, you'll do well at Lucky's. read more

I'll first start off by saying the very first time I stepped into Luckys was back when I was just starting middle school. I am now a freshman in college. Throughout the years I've had nothing but amazing experiences. I have been pierced by Zach, Alycia, Andie:)!!, and Lars:)!!. Zach was the first one to pierce my nostril back in middle school. However I did have to take it out for summer camp and never got around to re-piercing it until years later. I do not believe Nicki works there anymore, but if I ever had a bead pop out, she'd always fix it, and I've never had a bead pop out after she'd fix it. Alycia did some of my cartilage piercings, and they turned out wonderful. Andie and Lars are my absolute favorites. I have seeing Andie for months on end now. And she's turned my ears into an absolute Masterpieces. She is very skilled at design and placement. Lars took their time with me and treated me like an absolute queen, reminding me it was okay to back out of my piercing, and that they didn't want to pressure me into it. From start to finish, the best experience I've had in a tattoo shop. We'll get to our artist Trudie in a bit. My wife and I popped in during an anniversary get away weekend. We'd explored the shop previously when my wife and daughters had piercings done but these were our first tattoos at Lucky's. The woman at the tattoo desk was very customer service oriented. As we were drop ins, and later in the afternoon drop ins, we really couldn't work anything out for Saturday with an artist whose work matched our tastes. We did find an artist, Trudie, with unique work that really grabbed us and we were fortunate that she had a block of time open on Sunday early afternoon. My tattoo wasn't overly complex, but required lines as close to perfect as you could attain. My wife had a general idea of what she wanted and Trudie worked with her to perfect it. I'll try to be brief. The guy at the front desk was also big on the service angle and very cool Trudie's work was way better than I had even hoped for. Her lines were terrific and and three days after the work was done, I'm ecstatic about the job she did. She had a very light touch, yet filled all of the necessary areas beautifully, No spill over nor light spots (and no excessive pain). On top of it all, she was an interesting conversationalist, charming, acted like she enjoyed my choice of music so well....that she may really have liked it. Great experience!!! My only regret is that she did such a great job, my tattoo, which was a match of one of my wife's that represented the formation and growth of our family, I feel guilty because I like it much better than my wife's which was done by a different artist at a different shop. Although there are plenty of shops around where I live, I'll drive the hour + to have Trudie do any future work. I would recommend Lucky's and Trudie in particular without reservation. read more
