Stopped here on route from Chicago to Cannon Beach, Oregon. We were totally exhausted after driving all day and not expecting a whole lot. It was conveniently attached to our hotel so that settled it.. It's a vast place and they had a banjo player which was kind of fitting with the days scenery. I'm writing this for one reason. The. Best. Onion. Rings. I. Have. Ever. Had. Ever. They were fresh cut, large and battered (which I far prefer over breaded) and super crispy. We arrived later in the evening but a good hour before closing. We had to sit in the bar area because they had already closed the dining room. I wasn't really happy about that but we did it. They serve popcorn as an "appetizer", which was very good and warm. I had the chicken club and my husband had the cheese burger topped with Mac and cheese and bacon. Worst steak and eggs I have ever had. The potato's were under cooked so were the eggs. The steak was flavorless.

Service was fair - food was hot but blasé. Beer was cold! The place is in the Holiday Inn building so maybe I should have lowered my expectations. Saturday evening at 6:30 - expected loud crowd following college football but it was a non-event. TV's had a little regional game and - what? Baseball? Not a bad experience just boring! I would like to think there may be better places but it is Spearfish, SD so maybe this as good as it gets. Looking forward to better times in a different locale. read more

Enjoyed breakfast and dinner at Lucky's 13 Pub. Service was friendly and fast. Breakfast was good. Fresh ingredients cooked to order. Skillet and omelet's both good. Whiskey glazed tips for dinner were cooked medium rare and had fantastic flavor. read more

Super slow service. Menu was disappointing. The only thing super cool was there were your own tap beers at some of the seats at the bar so you could put and buy your own beer by the ounce. Cool gimmick but it doesn't make up for the crappy service and less than average food city would not come back unless I was stuck at the hotel. read more

This is my 3rd favorite bar in Spearfish, and yes it is in a Hotel! I am surprised too. I used to frequent this location because of a buddy that worked there, but now that it has pasted I still end up going out there. I think they have a decent selection, there are tables with beer taps on them, and they server free popcorn. Umm... Hello, awesome. they also have more than a few tv's those those looking to watch sports. I have not eaten here much, but the one time and what I hear from others is a positive for the food. I'm very impressed with the quality of the decor I truly feel that they went all out. Being able to pour your own beers at your table is an exceptional touch. The food is fantastic & specifically their Chili & the Steak medallions! Beer selections are really solid & the servers are very friendly! As far as the 3* review it falls solely on the bartenders shoulders! HORRIBLE If they actually cared about their jobs their tips would skyrocket & life would be good but they both had an attitude as if their mother just died. Lucky's 13 pub the name says bar right. Signs plastered everywhere that they open at 6 am daily. I've been working nights and wanted a sit down type meal with a beer. Guess what! They don't serve beer Until 9 because they don't have a supervision. What a joke! Now on to the food. It's mediocre at best. I've eaten here several times, not because I wanted to but because there is nothing else in this one horse town. Every meal I have had was edible but not very good. The food is way over priced as well. I do not recommend eating here. read more

Was impressed by the decor and the menu items when I walked in but it fell short. Loaded tator tots were not tots. They were two large balls of fried potato that were mushy inside. I was picturing a large serving of good ole tator tots topped with cheese, bacon and onion instead of the giant balls topped with nothing and served with some kind of sauce which is not specified. Their homemade meatloaf is two small round slivers of mushy crap seared on both sides on the flat top grill that tastes even worst than it looks. Don't ever order it. The ribs were tender but tasteless no smoke flavor even though they say it's smoked on the premises. If it weren't for the bbq sauce it would have been bland as a boiled pork chop. I will never go there again unless I just go have a beer which was the only thing I liked. read more

This review is in regards to the Sunday "Brunch" menu they have just implemented. We were staying at the Hotel and went down for breakfast at 10:10 AM. They had already discontinued their breakfast menu and presented us with their Sunday Brunch menu. This menu misses the mark of both Lunch and Breakfast. Oatmeal, pancakes and biscuits and gravy are still on the menu but Omelettes are not. Items such as a Ham sandwich topped with deep fried cheese curds are now offered along with many other burger items that try to combine breakfast with burgers. There are no gluten free options and because I couldn't have an omelette I asked for a breakfast burrito, no tortilla and eggs on the side (pre made scrambled eggs often have flour in them). I was told they couldn't/wouldn't do that. My only other choice ended up being steak tips and eggs. The server did not ask how I wanted my steak - luckily I like medium rare because that is how it came. A bright point was the steak was excellent. In regards to service our server also rates a 1 star. My husband ordered oatmeal and was given it with no spoon. We had to eventually flag our server down to get one. We told her we would have a guest arriving in a bit. Ten minutes after our guest arrived we had to ask another server to find our server so we could place the order. We had to ask her numerous times to bring the milk that was ordered. When you read the menu and you think you need glasses be assured you don't. The print is off and it is blurred. Also there are typos in the script. Suggestion to the manager of Lucky's 13. If you are going to have this type of menu don't start it until 11:30 and don't call it brunch because it is neither breakfast nor lunch so combined it doesn't become brunch. Proof read your menu and make sure your print company prints it clearly. Will I eat there again? Not on a Sunday morning even if I am staying at the hotel. read more

Stayed at the attached Holiday Inn and decided to stay in for dinner. Good decision. I had the walleye sandwich, grilled and a side salad. The walleye was good. Nothing will ever be as good as eating it fresh out of a Minnesota lake, but this was good. I should have said no bun, I always forget that, but the sandwich actually had a good ratio of bun to fish, not too thick. If I had been really hungry, I would have eaten it. It had two sweet, perfectly ripe tomato slices on it and some nice lettuce. I ate them all. The side salad was very good. Fresh!And the bleu cheese dressing on the side was delicious! Free popcorn was very tasty. I ordered a Swiss mushroom burger medium rare and was cooked to my liking. The service was fast and friendly.

This is a step above the typical hotel--perhaps especially Holiday Inn--restaurant. As the name implies, the atmosphere is pub-like, sports-barsy, but they do it pretty well with a nice variety of seating choices and bowls of popcorn. The personnel try very hard to please, from the door through the service, and the food is very good. They ask for and actually seem to care about your comments and suggestions. We've been there several times and plan to go back. (I reserve five-star ratings for "Unbelievable!" places, which obviously are few and far between.) read more

We stopped in here while riding during the Sturgis Rally. It was a great gem to come upon especially after eating so much concession type food. I had two small (slider type) carved sandwiches. They had several types of meat that were rotisserie roasted then carved with special dipping sauces, my choices were the roast turkey and garlic roast beef. Yummy! My husband had a great Reuben. I was staying at the Holiday Inn Spearfish Convention Center, to which Lucky's 13 Pub is attached, and figured I would give it a shot for a drink and a quick bite to eat. I expected typical bar food, but was rather surprised by the variety of items on the menu. The majority of the menu IS bar food, but the addition of a few sandwiches and entrees was a surprise. When I first looked at the prices, I was shocked to see they were a little on the high side for a bar but I ordered the California Club and was blown away by the hearty portion size and great fresh taste. The service was a little slow at times, the kitchen was out of their homemade pizza rolls (it happens), and the way our separate bills were split was incorrect (fixable) but overall, did not sour my experience. read more

Every year my family meets at the Holiday Inn in Spearfish for a weekend in late August/ Early September, and the main reason why we stay at the holiday inn is because of Lucky 13 Pub. In the past we have always had great service, food, beer, and popcorn. This year, however, we were extremely disappointed. The service at the bar was awful. I waited for over 10 minutes to get a beer upon sitting down at the bar. At one point the bartender was standing in front of me and she completely ignored me when I asked for a beer. When the other bartender came by he acted totally inconvenienced by having to get me a beer. The only reason I am giving this place three stars is due to the table service we received once we move to a table in the bar. Our waitress was great and her only pitfall was the slowness of the bartenders pouring the beer. Next year we will be finding a new hotel/bar combination in the Black Hills and Rapid City area. read more

I usually love this place. We eat here often. I do know the meals are hit and miss depending on who is cooking. This past weekend we took some family there to celebrate birthdays and it was my most disappointing visit ever! I got one of my usual dishes, the chicken pita. The pita was so dry the cook broke one side off just placing it on the plate. When I went to pick it up the other side broke so I now have 3 pieces of stiff brittle old pita. I can't even believe they served this garbage to a paying customer. When I complained to the waitress all I got was a sorry. She didn't offer to take money off my meal or make it better in any way. How do you rate a restaurant with good gluten free food and a HORRIBLE waitress? My husband also had to be dairy free, and she treated us like we were interrupting her day, instead of like she was DOING HER JOB. She even walked away from me while I was still talking, and gave us heavy sighs when we asked her to check on ingredients. She is the reason we did not go back, even though my husband said the riblets are the best he ever tasted. No joke. I had the Bison Burger on the GF bun, and it was very good. Let me start by acknowledging our waiter Kyle and the manager for asking how our meals were and then taking care of what we told them. We ate there twice about a year or so ago, and was very impressed with the place. So when we were staying in Spearfish we decided to go again. Kyle was sweet and attentive although a bit green as a waiter. He knows his short comings snd is really putting the effort to do his best. Regarding the food; it was over priced for the quantity and quality. They need a new cook and menu. Liked the popcorn machine with free popcorn. Nice looking bar and restaurant area. Service was pretty good. Had a Smoked Chicken Wrap and a side Caesar Salad. Both pretty good. Would probably come back because I was staying at the Holiday Inn and Lucky's is inside. read more

We ate there 2 years ago and both my wife and I shared an entree and we both became ill afterwards. We reluctantly returned last week with mother and the food was horrible. There were 5 of us at dinner and none of us were pleased with our dinners. This time around it was my poor 80 yr old mother who became ill. We will not be giving them a third chance. Called ahead to ask if dogs are allowed on patio before driving into spearfish to eat. Girl who answered said yes, dogs are allowed. So we drive to spearfish, because we usually enjoy lucky 13 restaurants. Arrive and are promptly told with some attitude that no dogs are allowed on patio. Told them we called ahead and they stared back blankly. We left and ate at Perkins. Much friendlier service! read more

This place is a nice place but it seems like it is gravitated for the younger crowd. I had a good meal there, was tasty but later it didn't agree with me. Probably my fault it was a rich dish and didn't settle well in my stomach. I wouldn't say I wouldn't go back but next time I will watch what I order.
