    Pancake breakfast!!

Excellent food, service and laughs!! What a fun place to eat. Wonderful homemade breakfast and upbeat, personal staff provide a fabulous dining experience. We will make that a stop each time we are in Deadwood.

Walked in and told to seat ourselves; which was fine. Sat around for several minutes and no one brought us any menus or water so we had to go get it ourselves (mind you, there were only 2 other customers in the restaurant). After 10-15 mins or so, the lady comes and gives us our utensils. Overall service was poor and lacking. Ordered our food and the bison burger was small and overcooked to the point that it was dry with some crispy edges. Fries were very cold and and also very dry. So disappointed that I spent the amount of time in here as I did.

Sorry excuse of a manager running to call the cops on his paying customers????

Getting ready to get on the road from our fun experience in Deadwood. Not too many places with good food options, but found this old gas station turned cafe, so we decided to check it out. From the outside, the art deco architecture is amazing. There is another building connected, and then connected to a hotel. So the entrance is a little confusing and the inside seems a little cut up and strange. They were busy, so thought it was a good sign. Menu has breakfast and lunch items. Staff was nice, but slow. Ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy and man crush went with the waitress's suggestion of the breakfast burrito with homemade green sauce. All drinks were at a self serve station, which was a little bizarre. The food came out quickly and to my surprise on paper plates. The biscuits were Pillsbury and the gravy tasted like it was from a can. The burrito was a good serving, but lacked flavor. Someone come in and help this place, it could possibly be saved.

Don't bother with this place. Way overpriced for having to get your own drinks and food that's not good and served on paper plates.

My wife ordered the Chicken Primavera with gluten free penne, featuring grilled chicken, pesto, and carrots. It was excellent and easily the standout dish of the evening. I had the grilled salmon, which was cooked well and was also very good. As always, we put restaurants through a bit of a stress test. My wife has gluten and dairy allergies, while I manage Alpha Gal syndrome, a tree nut allergy, and diabetes. The kitchen was able to accommodate the gluten free pasta request, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is one of the restaurant's biggest strengths. The historic building and the old photographs covering the walls make for a fun dining experience and really add to the character of the place. Service was just okay. Nothing was wrong, but it also wasn't particularly memorable. One thing worth knowing before you go: the restaurant adds a 4% surcharge for credit card payments, so if you'd rather avoid the extra fee, bring cash. Overall, we will probably pick something else a try if we return to Deadwood. Worth it if you are heading there just for the historic atmosphere. It's a great stop if you're spending time in Deadwood.

Fun place for a burger and beer…read more Food in Deadwood is not for gourmands, so save yourself the time and money and go to Mustang Sally's for a straightforward meal. They even have a full bar! This is a sports bar, and they have the cool option to have a half portion of an appetizer instead of fries for a $3 upcharge. My husband was delighted to be able to have fried mushrooms as his side. The kids and husband had milkshakes, and they were made quickly, and everyone loved them. They have a bunch of local beers. I enjoyed my Rapid City made beer and enjoyed a sip of my husband's Spearfish beer. I had a burger, which was perfect. The fries were good. I also had some of my daughter's hot wings. They were meaty and spicy. I loved them, although I wish they had come with celery sticks. Not a big deal, though. The restaurant is decorated with old slot machines, which were fun for the kids to look at while we waited for our food.

After a long day of traveling, we called to place a takeout order about 30 minutes before closing. The employee who took our order, a woman in a green shirt, listened while my sister and I ordered, then let out a loud, frustrated sigh and said, "Ugh... is that it then?" Her tone made it very clear that our order was an inconvenience. When I arrived to pick up and pay, I stood at the counter much longer than I should have, and it became obvious I was being ignored. The woman in the green shirt who had taken our order made eye contact with me multiple times but continued to act as if I wasn't standing there. There were three employees behind the counter, yet none of them acknowledged me. The only person who finally came over to help was a kind woman who had been sweeping on the other side of the restaurant. She stopped what she was doing because no one else would. I have 13 years of waitressing experience, so I completely understand how frustrating last-minute orders before closing can be. However, that's never an excuse to treat paying customers with disrespect. We called before closing, were polite throughout the interaction, and simply expected basic customer service. If taking an order 30 minutes before closing and acknowledging a customer at the counter is too much to ask, then maybe customer service isn't the right fit. Being busy is understandable. Being rude and pretending customers don't exist isn't. Needless to say, we won't be back.

However, after visiting this location every two years for the last eight years, I have officially reached "Strike Three." Before addressing the failures, I must commend Mitch, the bartender/cocktail server. He was absolutely amazing, providing the quickest service of the night and doing everything in his power to accommodate the mounting issues. The staff, in general, were apologetic, but they clearly lack the operational support needed to succeed. Despite the hotel being "dead" for a Saturday night, the food service was a catastrophe: They were out of almost every standard side, including baked potatoes and vegetables. I ordered the King Prime Rib. It arrived gray, cold to the touch, and completely flavorless. It came with a side salad and I was told they were out of side salads, only to later discover they simply didn't want to chop the heads of lettuce. When a salad finally arrived, the lettuce hadn't been washed and tasted like dirt. My salad was replaced with baked beans without my consent, further complicating a simple order. Moving dining to just eight tables in a gaming room was a significant tactical error that killed the atmosphere and flow. I was blown away to see table caddies and cutting utensils stored directly on the floor under the cash register on the gaming floor. This is a fundamental health code failure. The Room The room was "fine" but unremarkable. While it smelled clean, the decor is dated (as expected for an older property). However, the chair in our room was heavily stained, which dampened the "clean" impression. I only come home every few years, and I keep hoping this place will improve. Instead, it has consistently declined. To management: You have good people like Mitch, but your operations, kitchen standards, and basic sanitary protocols are failing them--and your guests.

We were looking forward to eating a good Indian Taco while driving the Spearfish Canyon Loop, but…read moreour first choice was closed when we got there. Frantically searching for another place, we found that Horseshoe Restaurant, located inside the First Gold Gaming Resort, had made-to-order Indian Tacos. We decided to stop in for dinner. Hot Cheese Bites ($5.50) - I wasn't sure what these were when I ordered them, but hey, fried cheese is never bad. It turns out that these are pretty similar to fried cheese curds, with a very soft interior with barely any chew. Commercial frozen curds perhaps? Still, they are fried perfectly with a light crisp on the exterior and served piping hot. According to the menu, the cheese bites are supposed to come with hot honey but the server was confused and asked what dressing we wanted, of which we selected ranch. (4/5) Indian Taco ($14.95) - The base frybread is a five inch diameter puck that's quite thick. It doesn't have the traditional frybread texture - instead of being fluffy and airy like a donut, it's quite dense, reminding me of the texture of a soft pretzel. The frybread has distinctive docking holes on the bottom, which prevents rising, hence the denseness. I wonder why they do that? It does taste freshly fried and is topped with seasoned beef, shredded iceberg lettuce, cheese, olives, and pico. The seasoned beef is ground into small particles and reminded me of a Taco Bell-esque extruded meat. It's quite salty but seasoned well. (2.5/5) Everything seemed to be made fresh to order - it took around 15 minutes to receive our food even though the restaurant wasn't that full. Also, unlike reviews on other platforms, we had no issues with the service whatsoever. Bathrooms: Larger ones. You can also go in the casino for more bathrooms.
