Poor Customer Service - Will Not even Answer The Phone…read more I wanted to make a purchase from the Gadsden Alabama Academy Store yesterday. I wanted to see the item I was purchasing prior to the purchase and not just the pictures and description online. Before driving the 1/2 hour to the store, I called the Gadsden Store (256-439-6260) six times to see if the item I wanted was in stock. Despite all my efforts, I could only reach the automated answer line and was stuck holding on it. I was never able to contact a live associate at the Gadsden Store. Thinking the store may be closed, I called the Academy Customer Service Number (888-922-2336) two times. I was again stuck with an automated answer line and left holding. I then called the Trussville Alabama Store (205-661-5500). Wow, a real human answered the phone. I was informed that the Gadsden Store was open. I asked to leave my contact information and for the District Manager to return my call. I was put on hold and another associate came on the line. They stated they had attempted to call both the Gadsden Store and the District Manager and were unable to contact them. This entire episode is a terrible reflection on Academy Sports + Outdoors and their customer service. If I am not valued as a customer, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

What sets this one apart from the others I think is that they have a good selection of outdoor/camping/climbing etc equipment downstairs in another section. The people here are always helpful and knowledgeable about the things they're selling and can give you all the technical details on everything from a kayak to a winter coat. 2 things that I think are important to know, 1) park in the back of the store. This may seem obvious if you're driving by, but you can't see the parking lot from the highway. 2) shop their site online and you can browse the inventory from all their stores before you go in and make sure they've got what you need in stock. (There's also a great sort feature where you can check clearance items and find some really good deals). Overall this is just a nice, well stocked store with lots of quality items and a friendly knowlegable crew. 5 stars for sure.

The women's clothing section consists of about 4 different styles. Nothing good ever goes on sale. The men's selection is a bit better but they are always out of size smalls and usually only have a lot of large sizes. Same issue with shoes. Heavy on on clouds and two choices each of other brands. Always out of common sizes. What usually ends up happening is I see something I like, then because of a better return policy at a competing retailer, or better price and colors I end up purchasing online. Also the sales people are too pushy and don't let me shop in peace. It's very annoying.

The plug end of the solar panel charge cable seperated causing the camera to not work/charge, no physical damage what so ever. I still had my receipt and all of the original packaging. I simply went in the store to swap the camera with the same model. I didn't want a refund, just wanted the same camera. I was only able to speak to a cashier about it who then went and spoke to a "gun manager". What I was told was "since the camera had been used they would not replace or refund"(camera is only 2 weeks old and still new condition) and that I would have to contact the manufacturer to see if they would send me a new solar panel with charge cable. I am so sick an tired of businesses like this selling products and if/when you have any problem with it "oh well you're SOL because you used the product that you paid money for, go figure it out yourself". P.S.- I won't put a name but the cashier I spoke to and who I have been through her register line a few times has that attitude that every customer who walks through the door just ruins her day, having to put her phone down or stop gossiping with the other cashier and actually do a little work is a inconvenience to her.
