I've been getting tattoo'd by Kyle Nance aka Nancey for some time now. He's super easy to work with and is an artist first. He works with your ideas and adds his style to create some rad trad pieces, fine detail, black n gray work etc... The shop and his attention to cleanliness and making you comfortable is next level. If you're lookin for a place to get incredible work. Lucky's is it. Hit Kyle up.
The vibe of this shop is cool as hell. They have an artist for whatever you're seeking to sink into your soul! My artist, Elle, blows me away with her talent! She always listens to me and my annoying little desires for my skin decor. My brother and I recently celebrated the one year of our DaddyO's passing, with a tattoo of his writing.. They are so special and so perfectly done. THANK YOU SO MUCH ELLE! I'll absolutely be back soon!
Let's just make this clear, this review has nothing against the shop or AJ but it does go against one of the artist that works there. I recently have been getting my sleeve filled in by Zack. I got another one back in July, made the appt with the date/set time. I showed up at 3pm as scheduled to be told our appt was actually at 4pm. It would have been nice to have known this, but it's fine I'll wait an hour. 4pm rolls around and I get in there waiting to see what designs he drew up for my elbow, he told me we weren't doing that placement as he didn't have anything drawn up and I had to figure out a new spot to get tattooed. At that point I should have just left but I was already there and still wanted to get something done so I picked a dagger through a rose. He hand drew it on me, which I was definitely okay with as I've seen his freehand work on other people. He proceeded with the tattoo, and once finished it was not the style of my sleeve, as it was something completely new but traditional. I mentioned to him I didn't like it as the rose wasn't filled in and he kept repeating himself saying "that's my new style of tattoos now." I didn't want to keep going back and forth so I just paid him and left, my mistake as I should have just had him fixed it right then and there. And he also failed to mention to me that he was planning to tattoo a new style on me, from my understanding I thought it was gonna match the same style of my current sleeve. A few days went by after I got the tattoo and I ended up messaging him that the look of my sleeve is all colored in and this new piece throws it off as I wanted everything to be cohesive. I've been stressing over this for the past few days and I'm not happy with the negative space of this tattoo and I would really like for it to get fixed. And he agreed and said he would fix it when it heals. Two weeks went by and I messaged him to see when I could come in. It was a lot of back and forth as he was busy or was out of town, though he did mention at some point he ran out of the red ink apparently and was waiting for the new shipment. I kept messaging him until a date was finally set, a month and a few weeks later and I finally got an appt too fix this tattoo. I get to the appt, he fills in the rose, fixes the leaf, wraps me up and as I was getting ready to leave he tell me I owe $100. I was a bit confused as this was a tattoo fix not a new tattoo, he told me it's the shop minimum and because and I quote "you wanted to add onto the tattoo that was already finished, so it will be $100." Um what?? I mentioned again that this was a tattoo he was fixing as previously discussed and he said ok will call it even. If I had to pay for this why wasn't it brought up in our back and forth messages? So if you want to get tattoo by him that's your judgement call but just make sure to be clear with him from the start or he's just gonna give ya what he wants. It's an unfortunate thing that happened, but I will no longer be coming here to get any new work done at this shop.
I went and got my 1st tattoo is something that I've been wanting to do for a while but now, with the way, my year has been going, and the strides I have made to improve myself and to take care of myself in new ways, both mentally physically spiritually it was time, and I found the perfect tattoo, the perfect tattoo shop, and the perfect tattoo person I was so pleased that Dora was my artist, she was so caring and took care of me so well took her time and really make sure I was happy from bringing to end. When I;m ready for the text one I will be back.
Love, love, love my tattoo which is a tribute to my little Bella (my 4lb chihuahua) who passed away on Christmas Day eve 2021. She was 14 years old and my precious little girl. AJ was kind enough to mix some of her ashes with the ink and then tattooed her name and her scanned paw print onto my forearm with that ink. Thx AJ for being so compassionate and understanding. I feel a sense of relief knowing she will truly always be with me. The shop is clean and feels like you're sitting w friends. I will definitely be back for more work.
I was lucky enough to discover this great shop recently. It's got a good atmosphere, clean and a friendly staff. There are male and female artists which I love seeing and I love my hula girl I got from one of the shop apprentices Dora. I will definitely be back and highly recommend giving this place a try if your looking for a comfortable atmosphere with talented people.
This place is amazing!!!!! Customer satisfaction is a top priority! I needed some fixing of a couple tattoos and was a little nervous because of a bad experience. I needed to fix the crookedness of a tattoo that I was so bummed about I had thought about getting it removed. (It was only 3-4 weeks old) :( AJ took the time to try a couple rough drafts and when we finally decided, he was quick, gentle and did not ever make me feel like he was rushing or tired of me changing details. He truly let me know this was my tattoo and that he wanted to make sure I was 100% satisfied and he also made sure the other staff looked at it too, just to be sure we had fixed what was bothering me. Thank you AJ this is my new favorite tattoo place. I have to say this is the BEST TATTOO SHOP IN VENTURA COUNTY
Had the most amazing experience here! AJ is a very talented artist. He is amazing and makes you feel welcome. First of all he had to work around an existing tattoo the was large and broke up. He drew everything freehand and made sure I was happy with it. He is super gentle!!!! He made sure I could take breaks in between to stretch and always made sure I was comfortable. He is also the owner of the shop. The shop is nice and clean. I highly recommend anyone wanting a tattoo to go see AJ! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
By far the best tattoo shop I've been to in 20 years. I gotten 5 of my last tattoos there and I'm looking forward to the 6th. All the artists are amazing and will take great care of their clients. AJ is the owner and he has customized all my tattoos this year and I couldn't be more happier with them. The environment is clean and the staff are super down to earth, making the experience all the better. I've been to 5 different tattoo shops in the past over the years but none of them provide the sense of community and comfort the staff at Lucky's tattoo shop provide. I'm proud to have my ink done there and I look forward to my 6th tattoo this year with them in July
I cannot explain the level of talent that AJ has, and the amount of professionalism that he brings to the tattoo world. I've gotten 2 tattoos from him now, both of which are phenomenal, and I've already got another appointment on the books with him to continue to build out my full sleeve. AJ's caliber of tattooing is top notch, and I am appreciative of how patient he is with my not-so-tough self. I even have plans to have a large tattoo done by another artist removed, just to make room to collect more of AJ's work.

I recently went to Luckys tattoo shop. I was very nervous because I knew I wanted a very small, petite tattoo with very thin intricate lines. Let me tell you! Please go and see Elle!! I just got some ink from Hank today. This is by far my dopest piece yet! The lines are bold and clean, I couldn't have asked for a better job. I showed him my idea and told him to make it his style. It came out much better than I could have imagined. He took his time drawing up the piece, sizing it , and placing it. Super clean and sterile technique! This spot is fresh and new but the artist is skilled and experienced. Been working with this dude for completing a full leg sleeve. We have big plans for more work but I love all the we have done thus far. AJ is the man and his talent definitely shows in his work. Zack (the apprentice who should not be an apprentice anymore, but I'm just sayin ) did a tribute tattoo for my grandfather who just passed and I absolutely love it! Just to start, everyone in the shop was great and the owner was absolutely amazing being able to book me with the short time frame I gave him. On top of that he was also able to book my mother on the same day with Alex who did such a great job of remaking my grandfathers tattoo that she cried and hasn't stopped talking about it. All in all, everyone was amazing and I got to check out the other tat that was being done by the owner, AJ, and let me tell you; the detail and line work was ridiculous! Couldn't say more about how great every artist in this shop was! This is now my mother and brothers go-to shop and will definitely be back for many more tattoos to come! This place is truly a hidden gem! Completely out of the blue I had some ideas for new tattoos and was itching to get quotes and get them done ASAP. AJ allowed me to stop by that same night to get quoted on all my crazy ideas. Immediately it felt like such a friendly atmosphere. He took the time to listen to every single idea I had and wasn't afraid to step up to the challenge of every single one and execute my vision down to the most minuscule details. I was a long time client at another tattoo shop but ever since finding this shop, I really can't imagine going anywhere else. The precision in his work, the attention to detail, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, and best of all the excellent pricing make me feel without a doubt that this is the go to spot for tattoos. I got 6 tattoos done by AJ in one sitting and after every single one I was amazed by the line work and details he put into them. They are honestly the tattoos I get complemented on the most (and I have over 40 distinct tattoos). This shop is such a gem find in Simi, your one stop shop for quality work in all styles, AJ is an incredible artist! best tattoo shop in simi over all!! i went into their shop one day after going to my nail salon to check it out after seeing them on instagram and Zach was able to book me super fast!! i had a wonderful time with him, had great conversations and felt like i genuinely left having had made a friend!! (: if you're familiar with tattoo culture you know that they treat their apprentices like shit but at luckys you can tell Aj is a genuine and sweet man and takes care of his staff like theyre his own. In my appointment time I got offered TWICE by the crew if id like anything when they ran over to the liquor store to grab a snack and felt so welcomed, you guys are sosososo wonderful and i cant wait to make even more connections with you and cant wait for my appointment in december!! read more
