Ok, I see you Oakland! Love all of the new-ish spots that are coming up in the Town, with Lucy Blue being one of them. Located right next to the Fox, Lucy Blue is an awesome vibe. The space has transformed to something beautiful, such a vibrant atmosphere. The staff were so kind, and the patrons seemed happy to be there. A cool spot to kick it with a cocktail, grab some pre-dinner snacks or a full meal, and looks like there's a private event space upstairs. We ordered drinks only, but we were eyeing the catfish bao buns, black-eyed pea hummus, and the warm collard dip for our next trip. Also the oxtail arancini sounds delish too. The day we came in there was a Kentucky Derby Party with lotsa fun hats and fits. Checking their event calendar, looks like they have music on specific nights too. We took a ride-share because parking is congested downtown, but there are metered lots nearby. Can't wait to roll through again soon!

This is a such a gem in Oakland! I was able to pop in after an in office work day and I'm glad I did. This vibe is topical oasis, vey date night. We during happy hour and. had the collard greens dip, ban catfish, fries and margaritas. Everything was 10 except the ban bun but the fish was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive, food came out fast . I hope it stays around for a good while.

Came here on a Thursday for a happy hour and I was definitely happy! They have a great, vast selection of appetizers to choose from for good prices! I got one of everything. The drinks they serve too are delicious and affordable! The staff is extremely kind and friendly too. They are great at engaging with you and making recommendations. It's nice to see Oakland uphold a bar with a classier feel to it. I hope Lucy Blue stays successful, and I look forward to returning soon!

Made it to Lucy Blue a few times now, and the vibe has yet to miss. I've tried the Caribbean Wings, Lucy Blue Sliders, and the espresso martini, all consistently solid choices. The music is good, even when busy the space feels open with seating upstairs and downstairs. The staff is always welcoming and the dress code adds an elevated touch to the overall experience.

Love it. Food, cocktails and vibes were amazing. The only thing that could be improved was the service - our server took like 20 min to bring dessert and provided no updates. Recommend it!

Wanted a nice cocktail lounge with creative cocktails and this fit the bill. Tropical, chic vibes with mood lighting. We got there around 8:30 PM on a Thursday night and there was still plenty of seating. We wanted to see what the upstairs area was like, but for some reason, we weren't allowed upstairs, so opted for some booth seating in the back. We had some cocktails and shared the Warm Caramel Rice Krispy Treat. I didn't expect much, but the rice krispy treat was actually quite good: tasted like it was homemade. The cocktails were innovative, varied, and well-balanced. One of my friends got one of the spicy drinks and the spice level was just right and not too overpowering. Service was great, but the glasses they gave us initially looked like they had lip marks on them. We asked them to replace it and they did. Would love to come back for not just the cocktails, but their food too another time.

I had my Galentines event here Coordinating with Melanie was very easy and seamless. Everything was explained and communicated very well When I arrived Melanie was expecting me and took me to our reserved area We all had a great time here. Drinks are good and appetizers are great My favorite for sure was the Catfish Bao buns definitely a 10/10!! Fries are also very good, freshly made and well seasoned Customer service is awesome, the servers checked on us frequently and were always very nice and courteous The venue is clean and nicely decorated I would definitely come back here for a light dinner and or drinks Only draw back is that parking can be hard to find Luckily I was able to find parking across the street but some of my guests had to park 2 blocks away There is a dress code here and I appreciated that and we all respected it Refreshing to be in a venue that requires their patrons to dress and behave accordingly

This place is much bigger than you'd expect. Even though there's plenty of seating, it somehow still feels impossible to find a spot. They don't take reservations, which makes planning your night tricky unless this is your first stop. Once people get a table, they tend to stay for hours, so your chances of snagging one after 9 p.m. are pretty slim. The interior is beautiful, and they do offer a small bites menu. The crowd definitely skews older mostly late 30s to 60s. The dress code also isn't nearly as strict as it's made out to be; I saw plenty of ripped jeans and baseball hats. Overall, I love the vibe they're going for everyone seemed to be having a great time, with no drama at all.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt like an elevated space for the grown folks! What I Ordered: * White Cosmopolitan * Oxtail Arancini * Catfish Bao Buns * Lamb Chops * French Fries * Broccolini My favorites were the Oxtail Arancini, crispy fried rice ball with savory oxtail and the Catfish Bao Buns, spicy and refreshing! Also, the lamb chops are a small portion for the price but still delicious! The service was a bit slow since it was a Friday night but our server was friendly. Perfect for girls night out or dinner date! If you want to impress someone, take them here!

This Bar and restaurant was our last leg of the Hennessy Bar Crawl that supports black joy in oakland. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the restaurant as it really had an elevated feel. I was surprised to see that there were two levels to the restaurant. Not only could you enjoy good meals but there was a section that was on the second floor closed off for our personal event. The bar space was very clean and cool. The music was not too loud and the drinks were mixed to perfection. I really enjoyed some of the food plating. That night we were able to have their white cheddar beef sliders along with seasoned chicken wings that could be dipped in a jerk sauce or ranch. I thought the flavor profile was amazing and I definitely can't wait to go back as I hear they have a fantastic Jazz night on sundays. The wait staff was very attentive and made sure that all of our service needs were taken care of promptly. All in all this was a great restaurant.

I came back to Lucy Blue after a comedy show down the street. We had a couple of appetizers, it was my first time having the lamb chops. They were very good. To drink I had the Temescal-ada (?) it was different, I liked the color! The taste was ok. The servers were attentive and offered suggestions regarding the menu. I like this space, each time I've been here it's been a nice crowd, with a good vibe! Cheers

Black owned restaurants! We were invited out to meet at Lucy Blue at 6pm we arrived and the Hostess greeted us and told us how it works! Quite simply find seating for us and our friends right away. The place has several rooms including upstairs and groin level. The Warriors were about to play and they had TVS above the bar. Once seated the server immediately immersed us into the service and setup! I started with water and a Kenyan Lager. My wife had a sweet and savory drink that she enjoyed as well! The appetizers were amazing! We had the sliders made to order! We also really enjoyed the oxtails which were stuffed in a sort of muffin! The most outstanding dishes for me were the Lamb Chops and the Birds in a cage(Fried Quail! I would highly recommend Lucy Blue and would gladly look forward to going again soon!

We noticed two open seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there. She said the bar was first come, first serve..yet moments later, she seated two walk-ins who had been behind us in line at those exact seats. So been living in Oakland for going on 15 years now. I'm not what you would call a "bar" person. I…read moretend to enjoy my cocktails, wine, and beer in the cozy confines of my own home. That said I'm occasionally inspired to go check out the local watering holes for a good pour, some food if possible, and just to be in the presence of the human pulsation. Walking into Tallboy on a Thursday afternoon was a bit like Nirvana for me. There is a comforting vibe of neighborhood and after work people shedding responsibility and "toe the lineness" and transitioning to pondering true meaning and the other side of the elliptical bend over nicely crafted cocktails and HOTDOGS! I am a hotdog fiend, and Tallboy has a very creative range on the menu that does not disappoint. From a basic onions/mustard, an Elote Dog, an a Coney Islandesque (it has chili) version. Some folk go to bar and line up shots (or craft cocktails). At Tallboy you can do that AND line up their hotdogs which I intend on doing in the very near future. The pleasantries don't stop at the food (there are other delicious snack items on their menu to choose from too). Tallboy has a fully stocked bar, and the menu has a list of really unique and delicious signature craft cocktails. I'm not a Mezcal drinker, but I ended up dubiously ordering their Guava Martini which to my smokey surprise is made with Mezcal. I stayed with the smokey fruitiness of this Guava Martini as it was my mistake that I did not read in the description it is made with Mezcal, and ended up chasing it with their Tamarindo Cocktail which also has Mezcal. To those who really enjoy Mezcal the Tallboy Guava Martini and the Tamarindo Cocktail do not disappoint. Both have that deep Smokey Mezcal essence, but cut with the fruit sweetness. I personally think the Tamarindo balances well with the Mezcal. The Guava Martini the Mezcal comes through stronger, but both are just the tonic to release any existential pinging going on in your head. If you really want to kick in the hyperdrive pair either of these with an Elote Dog. I had their Deli Dog which sufficed. I think the Deli Dog would pair better with their standard Martini, but hey let's us not bring that snobbiness into Tallboy. Tallboy has an element of cloak and dagger or secret treehouse club about it. What I mean here is there is no signage on the outside (please keep it that way!). When you walk past all you see is this quaint beigeish/yellow brick façade of an establishment which begs you to press your face to the glass and scan what in the blazes is going on in here! Before you know it you are caught in the Tallboy tractor beam, and you find yourself sitting at the bar with some kind of craft drank and hotdog pondering the space and the very nice old fashioned wainscoting painted a shade of green circa 1930 (my description of winning in life). The cadre of bartenders are all really pleasant folk, very attentive (checking in with you to see if you need another round, hotdog, or snack), have tight shaker skills, and they know their craft and the menu. Tallboy also has SLUSHIES, and I did not do a deep dive on them, but I'm positive they may/do put spirits in them; or not. Also I noticed other patrons with a beautiful enticing thing that looked like an ice cream sundae milkshake hybrid (it had what looked like whipped cream on top) in on old timey soda fountain ice cream goblet. This could be a craft cocktail they make with the slushie, but major props for serving it in that goblet. I will investigate on my next visit which I intend to be very soon. Tallboy is the kind of bar establishment I could easily adopt as my after work living room for a couple of hours everyday.

I'm vegetarian so was so excited to try the dogs - which are vegan. And I may be biased but you cannot tell that you're missing out on anything with all the flavor packed combos. The bun was fluffy and soft and you have multiple fun themed options to choose from. My partner and I ended up getting the deli dog and truffle meltdown. Deli was perfect - classic mix of spice and crunch with the spicy brown mustard and giardiniera peppers. And the truffle meltdown was so savory and decadent - totally different flavor profiles from each dog! We were only going to grab one drink but the menu was so inventive we ended up getting two. I ordered the banana hammock (which comes with a fire show) and espresso martini slushee which was is up there with the frozen Irish coffees I've had in New Orleans. Incident: My party of 7 came to Mad Oak around 5pm on Monday evening, 7/20. I did not have my ID on hand as I didn't realize I needed it for entry. I was not planning to consume alcohol. The staff member in charge of the outdoor entry let me in anyway after a little bit of friendly back and forth. One of our friends arrived later and similarly did not have their ID. The same staff member turned them away very rudely and dismissively. I went over to the staff member to let him know that our friend was with us and I also did not have my ID. He responded very rudely despite all members of our party being very respectful. He replied me saying, "What did I tell her?! What did I tell her?!", without explanation. Our friend who was turned away identifies as they/them and without explanation from the staff member, and inconsistent application of rules pertaining to ID, I suspect it might have been a situation where our friend was unfairly discriminated against for their appearance. To sum it up, it was not clear that IDs were required for entry otherwise I would have prepared my party ahead of time; the staff member inconsistently applied an already unclear rule; he did not explain why one guest was allowed and not another, even in the same party; and lastly, he was unnecessarily rude. Our whole party ended up leaving Mad Oak to go somewhere we could all be together. In my outreach to the restaurant a couple days later, I asked for a response to let me know that they have addressed the issue and there has been no response to date.
