    Alteration repair
    Erin M.

My son was leaving for Europe for 10 days when he returned he would be home for 3 days and then sprint up to Washington for 2 weeks during which time he would be attending a wedding. He realized his suit coat had a few small moth holes in it. After my mother who's degree is in fashion & design, she was also a seamstress and even had her own line of clothing, saw the holes ( smaller than my pinky nail) suggested that my son take the suit coat to have it repaired, altered and cleaned. ( her glaucoma makes repairing difficult) My son called 1hr cleaners and asked if they were able to take care of his suit coat, they said yes. He brought it in and spoke with them. They assured him they would be able to take care of the suit coat. Since my son would still be out of the country when the suit was ready he asked me to pick it up for him. I went to retrieve the coat and was absolutely horrified at the repairs they had done. When I asked point blank if this was their best work and did they stand by it, the lady said with full confidence yes. Either they were trying to pull one over on a man that they believed didn't know any better or they are absolutely delusional. They have the audacity to tell me their work was professional and good quality and charge $89.99 for this mess. I took pictures sent them to my mother who immediately broke out into laughter and said "Hell No! It looks like they cut the suit off a dead man and tried to sew it back together " I left stating I would let my son decided when he returned state side. I then took the pictures to another alteration store and the lady there was horrified by the work and literally said she was so sorry the place had ruined the coat. The other alteration store also stated they would be afraid to try and fix the mess for fear of creating a large hole with the shoddy sewing. The fix should have been to remove the lining of the coat sew/weave the holes from the inside and replace the lining. On top of the repairs, the alteration looks horrendous. They let the coat out and it looks like they basted the grey silk lining with black basting thread. This is the worst work I have ever seen. My father always bought his suits from Brooks Brothers and Nordstroms and never once for an alteration, nor suit fitting have I seen this kind of disaster. Puckering, literally line stitching on the outside of the suit. The lady tells me she explained this to my son, and he agreed. I'm thinking like hell you did. My son knows exactly what a suit coat that has been professionally altered and repaired should look like. I'm horrified that they tried pulling this off. I realize this sounds pretentious but I'm making a point that just because someone looks casual and young does not mean they do not know what's what. I'm tired of seeing businesses trying to cheat people out of quality work because they assume the person is either young or ignorant. Not everyone needs to show their hand, and if this is their best work, may God help them. The pictures and video give a better idea to their "Professional & Quality" work, that they stand by. Bottom line, If this was not something they were able to fix they should have stated so. I'm not usually this worked up, I'm just stunned that a business would try and pull this off. Alterations prices are supposed to be posted , I do not believe I saw any prices postsed. Review pictures Answer to response: Lines are one thing this is a puckering mess. The holes were not even close to that big, and they should have been sewn from the underside not on top. This is a jimmy rigged mess!

I was charged 28 for a zipper alteration and another 58 when there was only one zipper in the outfit.

I'm not one to leave bad yelp reviews because I don't like doing this to small businesses but my experience here was SO BAD that I have to do this. I've been here a few times and the gentleman who usually helps out is very nice. The lady that is there is rude as hell. I got my outfit altered. I even showed the gentleman the little rip inside the pants that needed to be taken care of. I pick up the outfit. It looks great with NO RIPS. They charged me a 180 for the dry cleaning and alternation which was steep but I let it go. As soon as I put the pants on, they rip again. I took the pants back in and the lady is trying to argue with me over how they never charged to fix the rip in the first place so why would they fix it now for free? I'm sorry but I didn't go through the whole summary of what I paid for when I paid the 180. I just paid it and the lady knows this because she was the one in store that day when I paid. The original rip was supposed to be sewn in correctly. It clearly wasn't. And here she is arguing that she wants to charge me 12 dollars more when I've already paid 180. It's mind blowing to me that she doesn't have an ounce of customer service skill. If they didn't charge the original fix, how is that my fault? All I was told was to pay 180 which I did! And now to fix a tiny rip, she had a major attitude. I know customers aren't always right and I run a small business too but this is penny pinching at its worst. Take your alterations elsewhere. They're very expensive and the lady is RUDE. If I get a response that explains why she's rude, I might change my review because I hate giving bad reviews to small businesses.

Ask the Community - Lucy's Cleaners

Hello, Are you able to remove pen ink stains, if so how much would it be? Thanks.

It depends. How big each spot is. No guarantee it comes out. Some times the ink sets in and doesn't come completely out, but we still have to charge because we used materials and time.

I was hesitant to bring my wedding dress to the cleaners after stopping by a few before coming to see Lawrence.

The owner was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They customized the alterations specifically for my needs, charged a very reasonable price, and even had my dress ready four days earlier than promised! The quality of work exceeded my expectations, and the customer service was exceptional from start to finish. 10/10 experience. They have earned a lifelong customer for both alterations and cleaning services. Highly recommend!

After…read moresome research, I found a few specialists but they were really far from home and a bit pricey. I wasn't looking to spend too much on preserving my dress since you never know if you'll ever pass it along or wear it again. I knew I had to get my second look dry cleaned anyways so before I drove all the way to Costa Mesa for a quote from a dress preservation company, I did some research and noticed S Grand cleaners had good reviews and offered dress preservation. They were able to give me a good deal since we had multiple pieces. My wedding gown turned out beautiful in the box! I also like that it has a window. The only downside is that it's a pretty large box to store but I'm also unsure if that's just because of the size of my dress. They did an amazing job and gave great customer service. For my second look outfit, I had gloves, a corset, scarf, and skirt. They were very dirty after the wedding. Full of my foundation and self tanner. I honestly did not think they would be able to get it all out but they did!!! I was in awe and very happy. Everything only took 2 weeks which was quick and they were nice enough to help me out to my car. I also love that they sent me videos, which I have uploaded here.
