    Nice Fresh Paint outside!
    Danada M.

In its "class"...which in this case includes being located out in the middle of nowhere AND $52 for one bed...this place is a GEM! Super clean! NO WIFI but I have a Sprint signal in the room. And there appears to be cable TV. No phone in the room. This is A very old hotel that the owner is in the process of upgrading slowly. Clean paint good carpet, etc. But this place is not a remodeled doll house. I just love it ANYWAY! We are in ROOM 5. I should probably give this room 4 stars because the hot water is VERY SLOW to the sink and the toilet is VERY SLOW flushing and the you must hold the flush handle down a LONG TIME. The flushing can be fixed easily...the slow hot water probably not. Just be prepared...turn it on and let it run! We're here because it's near a location we need to be at early in the morning. However I would definitely stay here if I was just driving by. Here's the scoop! You check in across the street at the Chevron where they actually had my reservation and DID find it...even though weeks had passed! They let me check out the room first. VERY CLEAN. The whole exterior looks like it has fresh paint. It's nice when the outside is clean too! And in this vintage type motel...very rare. Room SMELLS FRESH and CLEAN. No perfume deodorant smells here! This is a huge plus for us personally. Microwave + Refrigerator has a larger freezer than usual. We are told the whole town is owned by one person. So when you stay at the hotel you get 10% off your meal at the cafe next door AND FREE DRINKS...and oatmeal...basically anything that comes in a cup, from the Chevron mini mart store where you check in. KEEP YOUR HOTEL RECEIPT! This is very generous because they have a LOT of selections! I'm very impressed and looking forward to hitting the specialty coffee and hot chocolate machines in the morning. I'm including pics. The promise of the 1800's cemetery in walking distance didn't work for us because it's posted private property and further away than we wanted to walk. However Shawn, who cooks at the cafe, is a wealth of information about the town. He says there are a couple little spirits haunting the cafe...he catches glimpses of them out the corner of his eye. And sometimes he smells very strong sulfur...never good, according to Shawn! But he's been there 19 months and drives almost an hour to work there...so hopefully he will stay and continue to be a great source of Ludlow history. YES THERE ARE TRAINS. And yes I can hear them in the room. However Shawn claims they don't blow their horns and really the tracks are not super close. Oops, I just heard...they BARELY blow their horn in daylight. Probably not at all during the night? If it's a problem I'll update! But I don't think it will keep me awake. We'll see! I'm laying here listening to the train and it's actually a little romantic. I'm remembering my Amtrak trip. I think it's fine. Update...Trains were NOT any problem for US. I realize it's different for everyone. NORMALLY I'm critical of too few electrical outlets...such is the case here...however I'm still jazzed to have landed here tonight! Maybe because it DOESN'T smell of chemicals!!! If you find this review useful please vote!

Just like a scene from Bates Motel!

This place is worthy of 5 stars simply for being what it is. The room was comfortable and very clean. Equipped with a microwave and a mini fridge + a nice flat screen Our room was non smoking which we appreciated and the heater worked, the staff at the gas station was friendly. Perks: * Ludlow Cafe right next door * abandoned graveyard from the 1800's within walking distance * 24/7 gas stations across the street * Dairy Queen * Historic Route 66 * Amboy Crater * Mojave Lava Tubes Will definitely stay at this real life version (minus the serial killer) of the Bates Motel again. Cheers! Happy 2018!

Are you an aspiring writer of the horror genre? A location scout working on the next great teen slasher film? Or do you just like to be terrified out of your wits? A Disney fan? Really enjoyed the movie, "Cars"? Have you always wanted to know how many slushies can you drink in 24hrs before going into a high fructose sugar induced diabetic coma? Is your mom also your sister? Have you sacrificed all but 2 of your teeth to a lifetime of meth amphetamine addiction? Grab your vintage Royal typewriter and a fresh ream of paper. Don't forget to bring your insulin, and stop by your local pharmacy for some earplugs then drive like the wind to the idyllic town of Ludlow, Ca, population 10. The town should change their slogan to "Where Deliverance meets Disney", or "Breaking Bad at the Whistlestop cafe". (The latter was a "Fried Green Tomatoes" reference, for any men that may be reading this) Eye contact with the locals is strongly advised against. Check in for the motel is at the Chevron station, across the street. Don't forget to ask about the unlimited FREE SLUSHIES, coffee and oatmeal for motel guests! I'm pretty sure these offerings are to help you pass the night in comfort while enjoying the trains rumbling past every 3 minutes. Don't plan on getting any sleep here. If the trains don't keep you from catching those z's the sketchy goings-on in the motel parking lot all night surely will. At least the air conditioner worked and the room was reasonably clean. I've given 2 stars because the atmosphere here is bound to loosen up the toughest of creative blocks. This place will act like a laxative for your brain.

We only stayed for one night but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Check-in instructions were sent via email and there's a code to unlock the room. The grounds are very pretty, perfect for a desert wedding or party. There are great views all around and there aren't any neighbors nearby. It looks like they own a lot of acreage nearby. The room we stayed in was the Onyx room. It was beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. There are lots of nice additions in the room to ensure you enjoy staying in from wine glasses, a wine fridge, record player with a record collection, bath salts, star gazing area outside with a mattress, and comfy robes and slippers to use during your stay. If it were warmer, I definitely would've tried out the outdoor tub and shower but it was too cold at night to even think about it. There's also a large community pool in the works. As mentioned earlier, this hotel is about a mile from the NP so it's an excellent choice for anyone going there. It's also not too far from town so you're not too far from stores and cafes. I am definitely planning on staying here again!

There's only two rooms but each are beautifully decorated w so much attention to detail! Both have their own private outdoor area that is huge. The outdoor area have their own shower and tub which has a window that you can open to view the sunset. There's also a queen size bed outside for stargazing or tanning. Don't worry there is an indoor bathroom as well with an amazing shower. Everything was so well thought out! Each room has a fridge that is stocked up with large bottles of water, k cups, teas, creamers and sugar. They give you plenty of towels. There's also bath salts to use for when you enjoy the outdoor tub. They make sure the check in process is smooth and easy. There's also housekeeping available (free only if you stay 3 nights or more). There is a beautiful common outdoor area with a fire pit, swings and seating. There is also a common area with a large living room that has a microwave. I can't stop singing praises about this place! Sacred Sands absolutely rocked it!

From our first meeting, Gwen made sure we were taken care of -- from a detailed list of recommended vendors (all of whom were amazing), so check-ins as we got closer to our date, being available as my stress started to spike, her rockstar team who welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed -- and most of all, the most magical backdrop for our special day. Rimrock was perfect. We had about 120 guests, which felt like the perfect size for us. There was enough parking for all (we did encourage carpooling and pre-booking taxis just to be sure). We had several of our friends stay on the ranch with us, which made the weekend even more special. We held a welcome dinner Friday night, with about 40-50 people -- Ranch staff made sure we had plenty of adult beverages while we enjoyed everyone's company. The Hatch House was lovely, and the perfect spot for me and my ladies to get our hair and makeup done before the ceremony. And the ceremony location -- pure magic. The venue naturally created so many beautiful photo opportunities for our guests, with that gorgeous sunset leaving everyone in awe. Gwen even offered to let us take some wedding photos with one of her horses! Not too hot or cold, but they had plenty of blankets for anyone who needed one. By the time it was over, my gratitude was endless -- Gwen, Eric and their team took such good care of us, and I felt so happy with every single moment. Five stars, highly recommend!!! Driving up to the Campbell House is like going back in time. I could imagine driving up that dry dusty bumpy road in a Model T covered in dust. Seeking out the health benefits of the dry climate that were touted by medical practitioners at the time. The last time we visited Campbell House was probably in 2012 or 2013. Our lives were much different then but we still had find memories of the place. We arrived around 2:30 and made out way to the main house. We opened the large red door and walked across the creaky floor into the small office. The main house has a lot of character. The smell of stale furniture polish and old linen permeates the air. The walls are thick and made up of stones that I can assume had been gathered locally and painstaking bonded together to form a desert architectural masterpiece. Check-in was easy and we were assigned the Artifacts Cottage which is another stone structure on the outer perimeter of the property next to the cistern which is no longer used. The cottage was pretty spacious. It had a queen size bed, a modular couch, and a kitchenette complete with an actual fridge. The bathroom was surprisingly large. Outside there was a small porch with a table and chairs. The views from the windows were incredible. My only criticism is the wifi was spotty and there weren't any USB chargers. Continental breakfast is offered in the main house. Hardboiled eggs, sous vide egg bites, and bacon are just some of the items available. The dining room, which I believe was probably a living room at some point, was beautiful and relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The day we arrived staff was setting up tables for an event that evening so there were lots of things scattered around. There is a pool on the property as well that looked very inviting.

But once you see the palm trees in the distance, head down the little dirt road, you feel like you have entered a private oasis. The house and property have quite a story to tell. We found freshly baked cookies upon our arrival, along with chilled water and coffee in the dining room/sitting room. Peggy was so friendly and helpful to us, as was the rest of the staff. We stayed in the Sunset cottage at the back of the property. It was nice and quiet and very private. We had a little porch out front that looked off into the desert. Our cottage had a kitchenette with a mini fridge, sink, dishes, microwave and plenty of counter space if you are going to heat up leftovers from one of the restaurants or fix a small meal. In the kitchen was a table for two. The queen size bed was very comfortable and the living room cozy. There were plenty of windows to let the light in, and at night step out on the porch for views of stars. The bathroom was huge, and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The property is large, with outbuildings and cottages, a game room near the pool and a pool house where you will find towels for the pool. Each morning between 7am and 9am you will find a continental breakfast in the main house dining room, sitting area. We had coffee/tea, pastries and muffins, along with sausage, hard-boiled eggs and egg casserole muffins. The perfect start to a day in Joshua Tree National Park. Each afternoon we found warm cookies back in the dining area. It truly was an incredible stay. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Twentynine Palms. The Campbell House Inn and staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming.

No one let us in - we let ourselves in (gate has a combo lock - we were given the combination via email). It would have been nice to have someone show us around, even if there's not much to show - but something at least. We stayed in "kates hairstream". Each airstream is padlocked with another combination lock. As we entered we thought it was super cute. Very colorful! Very clean! But we both agreed that these airstreams need updates. It seems like all they do is paint them every so often. Just a few add-ons would help. Like adding handles to the cabinet doors. Or an actual door to the bathroom (unless there was a hidden one??) would be nice. Also, why the permanently closed windows? It can get very stuffy. Outside, there was a pool, but it could not be used. It's seasonal, according to the website. They could definitely make the lot these airstreams are on, a little more alive. Cutesy decor would have made it nicer. Every airstream had a little deck to step off on to. A piece of astroturf in front of the deck. A shade above to keep the sun from beating down on you. Lights with burned out bulbs which hung on the shade thing. We didn't mind this. It looked nice. But I thought the plastic picnic table didn't go with the aesthetic. All in all, we didn't have the best time. Mainly due to my girlfriend having claustrophobia and freaking out over the windows being sealed and someone being able to lock us in with that padlock on the outside of the door. It still made for a fun memory though to look back on and laugh! One more thing - the price. It costs 200+ cleaning and taxes. So the total was $269. $269 for ONE NIGHT. That's insane. For what it was, the price is way too expensive. P.s. get a microwave
