Overall it was all above the bathrooms at this spot, they were clean and well stocked. Lots of available toilets so that was a big plus. The rest of the plaza was fine, a few options for food hot and fresh or super convenient grab and go. Gas was available a little bit past the plaza, more vehicles here so we had to wait but it moved fast. read more

A smaller service plaza on the limited access roadway that is known as the Massachusetts Turnpike. They have separate areas for cars and trucks, which not a lot of space for either. On the plus side, they have done a great job of building the parking area so that cars must slow down to make the sharp right turn. Too many highway rest areas don't have a good way of slowing down traffic. Inside, a rest room that needed some attention. Also, a cute McDonald's exterior and standard interior. There is also a convenience store Gulf Express that has snacks and drinks with the gas station. Fuel prices were surprisingly decent so you don't have to exit the Turnpike and hunt around for a bargain. My review is for the eastbound plaza. Due to poor planning and bad weather we stopped to eat at the westbound plaza. We figured it would be ok since it was Pap Gino and D'Angelo's . We were 1/2 right . The plaza is very clean as were the bathrooms. The Papa Gino's pizza was good nice crispy crust for a pizza chain . The kid chicken meal a really good value and was cooked to order, fries were really good and it came with a large cookie and small drink. It did take A little longer than hoped since we were making a "quick" stop . From D'Angelos we ordered the chicken salad with pecans and cranberries, wow did not know something have good stuff in it could taste like nothing even with salt added still no flavor. The Greek Salad was better with nice cherry tomatoes all was fresh . I would recommend the bathrooms but skip the food if possible. I will lan better next time. read more

It's a rest area...so it is what it is. Ludlow is easy to get in and out of...and the restrooms are usually pretty clean. I have stopped here many times over the years and have had nothing remarkable to report either way. There are a few fast food options and plenty of gas pumps. Four stars westbound, three eastbound. (There aren't separate entries at this point, near as I can tell, in the Yelp base). Smaller plazas about midway across the length of the Pike and thus a bit less crowded. Eastbound has a retro-diner McDonald's, which is above par for Mickey D's, but it's still McDonald's. (It's deucedly odd that the franchisee decided to go for the upgrade here, but maybe it was part of the bizarre notion of upgrading turnpike service plazas by stirring ancestral memories of what real drive-in service was like. Me, it just makes me nostalgic for the old Howard Johnsons along the pike.) I find it a bit meh but it is slightly above average as far as the cleanliness/fuss spectrum. That said, Charlton can be a zoo eastbound, and there's that spot of the Pike where traffic invariably slows after the 84 merge, so eastbound Ludlow's a better stop for get-and-go bathroom/gas breaks. Westbound is a bit of a gem, though, with a really good Boston Market and a D'Angelo's and plenty of seating. The parking for cars is a bit cramped but for the most part this plaza seems to have fewer visitors than its brethren further east or west (possibly the lack of a classic fast food name, or the more subtle exit signage that tends to make us forget it's there) and it's your last shot at getting fresh vegetables or vegetarian options in Massachusetts. The seating area is fairly large for a smaller plaza. Westborough has slightly better options going west with a Fresh City, but the wait time for food and service seems to be always lower here, quite likely because it's after the 84 split. read more

The interesting thing about the Ludlow Travel Plazas, both eastbound and westbound (this review is more for the westbound plaza), is that they each have the cheapest gas on the Pike of any plazas. It's very often 2 to 4 cents a gallon cheaper here than all the others. This particular plaza is also unusual in that it does NOT have a McDonald's. It has a stand-alone Honey Dew, a very large Boston Market, and a D'Angelo's. You certainly won't starve here, but if you need a McFix, you have to drive to the next stop. The McDonalds at the Ludlow Plaza eastbound, on the other side of the Pike, is interesting because it has a nostalgic theme. read more

My original review was for the Ludlow Plaza East Bound and when I realized my mistake I decided to stop in at this rest stop. Typically we don't stop here since we are close to home, but we dropped in the other day to stretch our legs and use the restrooms. Unlike the plaza in the opposite direction, this location has limited food choices. It is one of the smaller plazas on the Pike and the employees here seemed a bit frustrated. The bathrooms here were also a bit dirty which was no ideal. Overall, not a terrible rest stop but there are definetly better locations on the Pike. read more

I have stopped here in the past to use the restrooms and it was fine. not just now though---The women's room was doused in hideous smelling air freshener that has clung to my clothes, hair, and skin for hours after i was in there. i got in the car and my husband couldn't believe the smell. we both have allergies and health issues that are exacerbated by the use of chemical smells used in public restrooms. this restroom should not be considered handicapped accessible due to this. many people with various health concerns cannot safely use a bathroom scented to this point, or at all. I should be able to use a bathroom without having my clothes, hair, skin, and nasal passages covered in poison. read more

At 10:30 am the expectation would be that everything is open at the rest stop, right. Wrong. I stopped here to use the restroom and possibly get something to eat. The restrooms were open, the gas station convenience store was open, and the EZ pass customer service center was open. None of those appealed to me as great food options. And then I remembered that there was a little Starbucks store outside of the main building so I walked over looking for the entrance. No entrance. It's drive-thru only and a tiny takeout window. So in 20 degrees, I ordered at the window and stood outside waiting for my drink. Not well thought out for Western, MA. It's cold here like 9 months out of the year, this was a bad design. Next time I'm out here, I'll just get off at the next exit and find someplace that actually offers what I need. read more
