This is my go-to spot in Hillcrest for gay clothes! They have clothing, hats, and a few home items. The owner is very nice and there is a changing room if you want to try anything on. The only thing I am not 100% sure of is that when I was inside the dressing room, I could see two cameras from inside the store pointed in my direction. How do I know if those cameras can see me, or if I am barely out of the camera sight? That's sketchy to me. Please be aware of your surroundings, always. I do not mean to accuse the owner of anything bad, but I feel the cameras need to be placed somewhere completely out of sight of the dressing rooms. read more

On Saturday, my friend and I were able to browse quickly before the Taste of Hillcrest event began. It was my first time going into this store. The display featuring a Chanel top made me want to go inside. There was so much to see when entering the store. I didn't get much farther than the counter. There were at least 3 Chanel brooches to choose from. I knew I had to take one home. My friend also found a basket that had some small Chanel, YSL, and LV enamel earrings. Score! They were exactly what I was looking to find inside. I'll be sure to return when in San Diego and have more time to really go through all the items. I've been to a zillion thrift stores in my life, and this one really stands out. Why? Because it's not just grandma sweaters, madonna outfits, and 80s cast-offs. They actually have some really classy clothing. I tried on an amazing dress by BeBe, and I am NOT a name-brand-y kind of girl. I ended up buying a classic beaded clutch for a wedding I was attending that night which looked like it was from the 20s. The decoration of this store brings me back my pre-high school days, when I used to adorn the walls of my room with cutouts from fashion or celeb magazines. Their dresser rooms are decorated that way and is a fun and cheap way to make your store one of a kind. I think Luigi Vera is cute and cool but there is not much for women to choose from. And also not really too much vintage, although I spotted several cool hats and shoes. Cheap and cute sunglasses and accessories. Complete scam. The owner had a fake Dior shirt on the mannequin in the store window and charged me $237 for it. Upon close inspection, I realized it was fake so I called the store and went in multiple times to try and get a refund. When I finally got ahold of the owner and told him it was illegal to sell counterfeit items (and at retail value to deceive customers), he was extremely rude and nervous about getting caught. I called my bank and was able to get the money refunded eventually. I also filed a report that the shop is selling counterfeit items. Stay far away. read more

This place has moved over to 5th street right next to Corvette Diner in Hillcrest. I could only stay a few minutes because I had to leave for work but this place rocks!!! There are awesome original designs consisting of rock themed clothing. There was a ramones dress, the doors skirt, a Twiggy vest- all very cool. I've now walked past this place a dozen times, and we finally went in! This is wear that bead place used to be. Very small store, with some interesting stuff to sift through. Mainly clothes - men and women (though more emphasis on the women's selection, which is smart if you want to stay in business), some costume jewelery, belts, fake leather purses, etc. My girlfriend that was in town for the weekend was ecstatic to find the great selection of name-brand jeans! Now, this is used clothing, so you have to be lucky and find your size, and then hope that they were well-taken care of by previous owner, but after that - you're in! She found 2 pairs of jeans - Citizens and 7s for ~ $40 each, and was a happy girl :-) I didn't get lucky myself when it came to clothing, but I did find a pair of "new" Naughty Monkey heels that were adorable at $32. Not a bad shopping trip in the end! Glad I stopped by, and Luigi Vera will definitely be on my list of shops to walk through when I'm in the area. FYI - 1 (large) dressing room - don't go in a hurry! This is one of my fave stores for clothes/shoes/sunglasses/accessories ever and def my fave vintage joint in San Diego. Staff is amazing!! AMAAAAAZIIIIIING!!!!! They have insane clothes and shoes, great selection of sunglasses, some jewelry. BRING MONEY - this place is worth it! Sometimes I come to Hillcrest just to see this place and then I stop in at the other places, but this is THE place (for me, anyway). Charged me over $30 for a pair of tiny booty shorts that ended up not fitting, when I went to return it they told me they do NO returns or exchanges. I love this place so much. It really saved me this Halloween. I went to all the usual places such as Buffalo Exchange and Flashbacks to find anything green to work into my Poison Ivy costume. It really seemed like no one had anything green at all. Just as I was about to give up, I walked into Luigi Vera's and found everything that I needed. There were green shoes, green fingerless gloves, green jewelry. Some of the things sold here are pricey for my tastes but they are offset by things that are very affordable. This is one of the worst resale shops in SD. The owner is a thrift store buyer and is a total joke when you bring items into sell. He has a lot of high end fake items and the place smells badly. I think I'm in love! Luigi Vera is easily one of the best thrift/used stores in San Diego. I can't believe it took me this long to discover it. The shop is so easy to miss, recessed from the street on 5th Ave. It doesn't help that it's located right smack next to the hulking behemoth of an Urban Outfitters, which only makes Luigi Vera seem even smaller in comparison. But pay no attention to the tacky, overpriced UO. Instead, I recommend making a beeline toward the adorable little cottage to the left of it. The store is pretty small, but the owner makes full use of the space. Literally, just about every square inch of Luigi Vera is jam-packed with cool clothing and accessories, mostly reasonably priced. I'd guesstimate that around 75% of the stuff here is used, but everything looks like its in tip-top shape. Plus, there's actually a wide variety of sizes -- even on the jeans rack! I actually manage to find clothing here that fits. Hallelujah. The rest of selection is new clothing, much of which consists of Luigi Vera's house brand. His designs are unique and completely affordable. If I saw someone on the street wearing one of his shirts, I would guess that it came from a boutique, not a thrift shop. There's also a huge selection of styley mens' undies (not used!), although they're not quite my thing. On the other hand, I could name a lot of guys who like having space aliens and submarines all over their underwear (Ginch Gonch, anyone?). On this particular Saturday morning, I dropped by in search of a new belt, since my old one was getting frayed. Within 5 minutes a found a kick-ass designer belt for just a couple bucks. People actually like this place?! Yeah, if you want to spend $7.50 on Old Navy Flip Flops or $29.99 on Forever 21 Earrings. I came in here awhile ago to sell some items. I gave the owner my items, in which he took them and threw it on the ground saying "It'll take awhile." and went to go talk to his friends. My boyfriend and I walked around the store and were shocked at all the expensive clothing. Nearly a quarter of the mens clothes were all G-strings! Ugh. The women's clothes were not all that impressing at all. And the shoe collections were terrible. When Luigi was done talking to his friend, I went up to register and he was like "I'll get to that right now." SERIOUSLY?! I spent 20 mins in your store... and you haven't bothered looking at my items yet? So my boyfriend and I looked at all the jewelry and I noticed Luigi taking out my items and then throwing it all back it. When he was done.... all he said was "I can't take anything." and threw my bag to me. WTF?! This is the first time I felt like crap at a store like this. Terrible service. Terrible store. Overpriced. You're better off at Buffalo Exchange just right across the street where people are actually nice to you. read more

She starts saying that we have been rude in the store and cursing at us. We left and I returned asking for her name to report to the owners. After asking for the price of a necklace and changing my mind on it cause it was way beyond over priced, the man asked me where i had left the necklace with an attitude as if he was accusing me of steling it. I know business also hurt when people steal stuff but making your customer feel like thieves (because you aren't able to find an item which was placed back to where it was) is not the best way to make customers come back. This place does not deserve a star. Way to go making customer return to your shop! (I might not live a wealthy life but not everyone out there is out to steal!) Accessories and even 'costumes' are available! I can tell he is going to get VERY busy coming into the Halloween season we all love. Don't go there looking for a "Batman" or Charlie Sheen" masks, as they don't exist. If you are a creative and fun person with your own sense of style, whatever is in your imagination, it's there! Not intending, I made a purchase, and Luigi granted me a discount as I was a 1st time customer. I love shopping and reviewing businesses that are 'homegrown." Especially when the owner is "hands on" and PASSIONATE". His warmth and hospitality was so intoxicating, I forgot to go put money in the meter, and got a parking ticket for expired meter well..(my purchase was less expensive than the ticket, BTW)In any economy, any business can survive, if it understands how to manage client relationships. One of the best places to shop in HIllcrest! Small store, but they use their space efficiently. The store is packed with unique and eclectic clothing and novelty items. It may be a thrift/consignment clothing store, but their clother certainly don't look used. Also, they have designer men's underwear (all new, of course!).
