I almost don't want to write this review.. because I don't want my secret out! So pleased by this little gem of a thrift store. The staff is super friendly, inventory is organized well and prices are unbelievably low with amazing discounts! And it's all for a very good cause! Not sure why I hadn't come here sooner! We used to live just 3 minutes away and now we're a few exits out, but it was still well worth the trip. This thrift store has such a cute vibe with a great variety of items. I found a Judy Moody book that was on my daughter's Christmas wishlist and an authentic DC Batmobile toy for one of my twins who's into superheroes, both a win! The store is clean, well-organized into sections, and easy to browse. I'll definitely be back, especially to hunt for kitchen finds! read more

Customer service was great! They have a large selection of clothes and shoes. If you have large sized feet, you can really find something nice. They also have a decent amount of accessories like purses and belts. I was looking for some old pottery or housewares I can use for pottery. The household good section was nice. I didn't find anything I could use there however, did leave with a nice pair of slacks for under 8 dollars. They do not have air conditioning, so it is very warm in there. read more

First time in the store. Super cute store. Easy to find. We found some great gems. It was my friend's daughter birthday. The staff was super friendly and excited we were celebrating a birthday. This is a really cute thrift store, benefits a great cause. The employees are SUPER nice and very proud of their lovely shop. The store is small, but clean and well organized, and it's a pleasure to shop there. It's mostly clothing and smaller items that I don't really need. I saw some furniture items in the back room but they were mostly dated and a bit pricey. One of the highlights for me is their selection of picture frames. They tend to be of very good quality (many are new) and they are displayed standing up so they don't get damaged. I bought two yesterday - funny that one had been donated by my friend I had gone with to donate some of her stuff during her move :) Yesterday I found a cute little stained glass lamp, fit on a small table just perfectly. Only $15 - actually, $12.50 with my 20% Yelp check-in discount. If you're in the area, it's definitely a place you should check out frequently for new items. Home Start is an awesome boutique in Normal Heights that offers cute clothing and home goods at an extremely low price while benefiting a great cause. Parking surprisingly wasn't an issue here on an early Saturday afternoon. They have a wide selection of tops, ranging from T-shirts to blazers. I noticed they also have a large amount of jeans, some of them priced as low as $2! I checked in on Yelp when I arrived to Home Start, so I got a 20% discount, (and if you buy a reusable bag and bring it back you get another 15% off), so my purchase of one T-shirt, one button-up shirt, and a skirt came out to $6! I enjoyed their vast selection of products and am very satisfied with my new clothes. I can't wait to come back! read more

Cute neighborhood thrift shop. They have a little bit of everything. Items are well organized and the staff was very helpful. Our visit included covid safety measures. You enter in from front entrance and exit from side. Also maximum amount of 4 persons in store at one time. I would recommend stopping in. read more

Maybe I expected too much because their Yelp photos showed that the store was much bigger and carried more items. When I got in there were more plants for sale than anything. I do find it a very charming store with a lot of character and I liked the vibe. The clothing were all $2 which was amazing. I still ended up buying the flamingo lighted candles but wish I had more to look at!!! read more

Manager, Anthony, is super friendly and helpful, as is all the staff. Shop is clean and organized and it is fun just browsing. I brought over some wall art to donate and they were very helpful coming out to get the items.. Call store and they will tell you where to park in back to bring donations. Of course I went to front to park and browse and purchased an antique desk chair at a good price and Anthony through In two new seat cushions. Great deal. Will be donating more soon. read more

I shop there whenever I am in town. Have gotten clothing, shoes, jewelry, housewares, furniture, fabric, and other interesting items, including a white noise machine and a microscope. Very reasonable prices and frequent sales. Quality of the merchandise is very high. I go to thrift stores in every city I visit, and this one would be on my "Top Ten" list. read more

A lot of good deals and discounts coming in. There's yelp discounts and it happened to be 50% off on a lot of different clothes. In the back there's furniture and dish ware that are all nice and vintage. Everything here was good quality and the ladies running it were super nice. I especially liked the professional and fancy women's clothing. I live just around the corner so I didn't have to find parking but I know it's pretty bad. Yeah read more

I love this place, I've been going since it opened. Shout out to Ashely for always being so warm and welcoming. However some of the workers have made me upset whenever I go there for the bag sale. Workers don't fill up the bag all the way anymore and they raised the price from $10-$15. I'm okay with the price going up, but not the fact that workers don't fold the clothes well enough anymore like they used to. The last person wanted me to purchase three bags, but when I refolded them it all fit into one bag. read more

Good variety of stuff, fair priced, love love love the cause!!!! This place helps to fund a program for young mothers in need, not just giving a hand out but teaches them independence through job training, and job search, while preparing them to come out of homelessness by helping with first a temporary shelter, and then graduating to eventually living financially independent with their own places. You can tell this place isn't a thrift store where people just giveaway their junk. Everything in the store is in excellent condition, and fairly priced too! I liked how the boutique was set up too, it gave me easy access to browse the store's entire collection without necessarily 'messing up' any displays. I found great selections of outwear & jackets/coats, as well as books & random household items. read more

Specialties

Home Start's Thrift Boutique is more than a thrift store. We are a social enterprise who provide revenue to support our life-changing programs. The store also provides a supportive setting for young mothers in our Maternity Housing Program to develop job skills and gain work experience as they move toward greater independence. Home Start provides a hand up, not just a handout. Located at 3611 Adams Avenue in the Normal Heights neighborhood in San Diego, the Thrift Boutique is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm. Generous donors help us keep the Boutique stocked with unique gifts, quality clothing, and fine furnishings. Follow the Boutique on Facebook and Instagram for the first look at new items and insider scoops on flash sales and great deals!
