Everything we tried was delicious and the service was charming too. We had their Pizza Margherita (light & easy to eat in ur own), Pizza Quattro Formaggi (you'll want to share, very filling), Linguine Spicy Gamberoni, Crab Ravioli, Bolgonese. It was a Sunday , in august and so crowds were low - even better though they were out of a few things I was interested in. The salad starter was fine, the house wine, predictable but fine for the price but the main dissapointed. It was a pasta (the sort that looks like sea shells with a funny italian name), brocolli, anchois, and garlic. Interesting. Sadly the pasta was flavorless, the brocolli water boiled, short on anchois, and long on garlic. In fact if I had to bet they had no anchois and subbed in some tomato. I am still feeling the garlic today. Probably best not to judge a restaurant by its August food but I expected much better. If a restaurant of this rating can't perform in August (on a sunday) they should not serve the dish or should just close like the french and italians do. To finish, the cheese, some parma , also underwhelmed. Just not the sharpness that I expect. So, I am still in search of a great italian in Clapham/Battersea. Or maybe I have found it and just need to order something more than pizza from Pizza Metro and Donna M. But that is hard because the pizza is just so good there...

Two particualr highpoints were a roast leg of rabbit and porkbelly with cabbage; man-sized portions of loving prepared, high quality meat. I wouldn't bracket the Osteria with the likes of Strada or Carluccios; this is more ballsy north Italian cuisine, untarnished with the commeditisation which always seem to creep in with chains. Very nice coffees, too. A main, drinks, and coffee came to about £25/head, and I'd say it was worth every penny. Highly recommended, particualrly if you can sit outside on a sunny afternoon but don't plan on doing that if you only want a coffee, as you'll be shooed away promptly.

If nothing else, the ambiance was incredible: trendy without trying too hard, relaxed, and a bit mediterranean in London! The service was hilariously slow, as if Mr. Bean was managing the waitstaff. It took at least 20 minutes just to get water. We each got an appetizer. My shrimp dish was revolting. The heads were on, which itself is fine, but what floored me was the lack of attention to detail...overcooked shrimp, to the point of being mushy. Worse yet, the lemon ish sauce it was drowning in was sour in the worst ways, basically edible astringent. The ravioli I got later was not as bad, but largely flavorless and lukewarm at best. It had clearly been sitting, waiting to get picked up, not only because of the temperature, but another basic cooking mistake - broken sauce. There was the sauce, and then the oil pooling around it. Amateurish stuff that, while not expensive in this area of London, was still not worth the price point...

In the end, I took some of the gravy and crowned a piece a bread and ouila, you have a decent bruschetta. Not a light, creamy sauce for a croquette. You say potato, I say potato and that's the way I like it, uh-huh uh-huh. Risotto del mar- no bowl to dump my muscle shells and a wet risotto. Cheese ravioli- holy cow there's a load of Gorgonzola in there. It's hard to get thorough a bite much less a plate of 6 pillows. Cut the cheese with a lamb or vinison. It was very overpowering. The cream sause was nice though. This not good Italian. It's what I would expect from a cheap, American chain. Save your time and money and pass on Orso. There's too many good Italian in this city to waste time here. Oh, and please fix the bathroom soap dispenser.

The one nice moment is when he noticed the outdoor table area was very loud and offered to love us inside. Food: the bread basket included partially stale white bread, cheap crostini and an ok paper thin pizza dough cracker. Likely reused bread. Pizza - my daughter ordered the margarita- which came with no basil and a completely soggy crist which, when lifted, cause all the cheese and sauce to slide off. I had the tuna linguini special which was ok except for the tiny potion of fish included. My son had a sauce-drenched lasagna. All the pasta was over cooked. Salad was soggy as well Andy way, obviously this was not a good experience for us. I will say it's reasonably priced and, if you have picky children who like Italian food, this would maybe make sense. They do however need to control the amount of touching of the children.

A colleague and I went for lunch here and it was just the perfect lovely day - the sun was out, it wasn't too hot and we got window seats. I had the Penne Romana (regular size for £7.50) and it was a generous, delicious portion. The pasta was al dente (just the way I like it), the sauce was OH so rich with a touch of cream (as promised), the chicken bits (and sausage bits?) were juicy and the cheese toppers tasted smoky and fragrant - it truly completed the dish. So amazing. My colleague had two lunch starters - the Portobello Mushroom w/ spinach and gorgonzola (£3) and the fried calzone with mozzarella, spinach and ricotta (£3.25). Both were good, however the calzone was a bit bland. The breading for the calzone reminded me of a Chinese doughnut - slightly chewy and smelled buttery (yum). Service was quick and very pleasant. This place was about a block from my work so that's quite dangerous. I'm gonna tell you right now, this restaurant will get me fat.

We were tucked away in a nice little corner and presented an extensive wine menu, specials and food menu. The staff were nice, giving us enough attention and space appropriately. We started our evening with an aperol spritz each - when in Rome and all that! We struggled to pick our staters as there are so many good choices. There's also a great sharing anti pasti platter too. We selected goats cheese tartlet and stuffed sardines. Unfortunately we were a little disappointed with the starters. The goats cheese tartlet turned out to be a breaded deep fried goats cheese slice on top of layer of soggy uncooked puff pasty with cooked shallot underneath. The special happened to be deep fried goats cheese, so we felt like out option was actually just that rather than an actual tartlet. The sardines were okay, but not what I'd imagined. My main was delicious. A large portion of lamb shoulder, beautiful cooked, it fell off the bone. Accompanied by a lovely Aubergine dish with olives and pine nuts. The red wine jus was overly strong though. My dates main wasn't quite as good. He had roasted pork belly and gratin potatoes. It was was a large portion of meat but a bit dry and a lot of fat. Also we both felt that the waiter should have asked if he wanted any vegetables on the side. It seemed strange for a meat and potato dish not to automatically come with any vegetables. We selected a lovely bottle of Sicilian red wine, which was delicious and decently priced too. We weren't offered any water though, which was a shame as it's nice when it's assumed you'd like some water with your meal as well as wine. £80 in total for two cocktails, starters, mains and a lovely bottle of wine. All in all a nice meal and evening, but simple things could make the experience a lot better.

Extremely popular with families , couples, and indeed local business people, you'll rarely see the place empty( particularly on a sunny weekend). I particularly enjoyed deep fried artichokes as a starter, and the ravioli al tartufo ( white truffle ravioli) was also excellent on my last visit. One of the few restaurants I know of that still has a dessert trolley( welcome to desserts c 1981 - think tiramisu and profiteroles). As other reviewers have noted, the waiters are in the classic stereotypical mould- expect to have all your menu choices pronounced "perfect". Expect to leave £30-40 lighter per head for three courses , excluding drinks, ut with a sense of cosey well being. If I had one gripe, it would be that there isn't a wider range of wines by the glass( house white or red only, both passable Sicilian ones as I recall).
