She handed everything over to Richie and he said he would take a look at it. They were so kind to offer me a ride back to work such sweet people! I was visiting from Orlando and needed to get back home that same night. Richie called me back with a diagnosis and quote. The part I needed was on back order. Richie was able to create a heating hose fitting and get me back on the road the same day! He quoted me a good price for the work. At first it was difficult to get information over the phone and to schedule an appointment. Apparently there was one person who may have the expertise for my Subaru. Maybe there was another reason, who knows? When I was there I asked very direct questions based on my limited knowledge of my car's issues and a previous estimate from the dealership. I didn't get direct answers and basically was told they'd have to work on the car to get the full picture. I made the mistake of sharing a written estimate. They basically recommended a lot of work which would require me to spend about what was on the previous estimate from the dealer, but not the exact same work. I was primarily concerned with anything that would effect safety and just being able to depend on the car not breaking down. They recommended new tires because of rot. I hadn't seen any rot but I took their word for it. They also did some suspension work, less than what I was going to get done at the dealership. I think they wanted me to buy tires through them also but that wasn't happening. After their work, I got my car back and got new tires from Costco. I still spent a lot of money. The quality of the work was good but the service, exchange of information and overall experience wasn't good. I know a few things about cars, I just don't work on them anymore because of all of the new technology. I think I know enough to know that I probably spent a few hundred dollars more than I needed to. Good quality work but not the value that I anticipated based on the reviews.

While they are beyond capable of handling normal service / repair work on daily driver cars, where they excel is on high performance and track prepared cars. I took my truck in because it needed a new idle air control valve (computer was throwing code). Since it was my first time at the shop, they said they would go over everything... about an hour later they called with over $4,500 worth of recommended fixes. I know a lot about cars and immediately there were some red flags. 1. New front brakes were recommended because they were in the "red zone" 3mm. This was odd because I had replaced brakes and rotors less than 20k miles. 2. New ball joints and control arms were recommended. They actually said "we don't want them to fail when you are driving" Again, this was odd because they were replaced 30k miles. 3. Back shocks recommended because one was completely "bad". 4. Front axle seals because all of the front grease had already leaked out. I was pretty upset. I take pretty good care of my truck and this was not something I wanted to hear. The red flags made me want to get another opinion from my old mechanic who I now live 45 minutes from. He went through everything and found no issues whatsoever with anything that was found by Robert's Automotive. The front brakes were at 6mm, the ball joints were completely fine, the rear shocks showed no sign of leaking and were functioning properly. I was looking for an honest mechanic and found the opposite. For now I'll continue to travel 45 minutes for honest and fair automotive work.
