I contacted them after I had seen their work van outside of a hardware store. They, along with a few other companies, gave me an estimate for painting my condo. Ended up going with with Luis as he offers to match another estimate. He and his brother moved furniture and did 2 coats of paint before lunch. Luis came back to do touch up paint a few days later. Not too long after I had him retape and repaint my ceiling after a leak. Great service. Great prices. Hope that he services the area that I'm moving to bc I have a long list. read more

BEWARE! Total nightmare. Take your business elsewhere. I hired Luis to frame a wall and put a door on my upstairs loft. He told me the project would take 3 days. A single worker showed up and began framing the wall. This worker showed up late and would disappear for hours at a time. I later found out he was doing other jobs in the area instructed by Luis. The 3 days came and went and the project was nowhere near completion. Another week went by and the project was still nowhere near completion. As I walked by, I noticed the wall looked canted. I brought this up to the worker and to Luis and I was told there was nothing to be worried about. Luis asked for pictures of the project. He didn't show up a single time to oversee the work. A week and a half had gone by. To my dismay, the wall was indeed inclined. What's worse is that the worker was aware of it and instead of fixing it, he cut drywall crooked in order to fit. See the pictures. The wall was inclined by an inch and a half! I raised hell to Luis who again asked for pictures (still didn't bother to show up in person) and acted as if I didn't know what I was talking about. He ended up asking other contractors to come over. They confirmed Luis' worker had framed the wall crooked. The drywall had to be removed and the frame straightened. Almost 2 weeks have gone by at this point. These contractors said Luis' worker has no business framing walls. We are now entering the second week of this living hell. Luis continued to send the same worker over. He continued to show up late or not at all and disappear for hours at a time. A few more days went by, the worker spilled paint and drywall mix on the carpet and on the other walls. I had been expressing my issues and concerns to Luis the whole time. He never showed up in person. He never showed he cared about the quality of the work nor how behind it was. I had enough. I told his worker to pack his stuff and go. Luis then sent his brother over. He showed up without any drop cloths and made a mess. He made it clear he was there on his own schedule and that this project was not his priority. He didn't show up the following day. The third day I told him not to come. Luis is now harassing me seeking full payment for a job that was botched, tardy and very much incomplete. I had already paid him what he asked for. I also paid his worker for out of pocket expenses. I am currently being threatened by Luis with a lawsuit if I don't pay the full amount as he claims to have plenty of money to come after me with the "best lawyers". Do NOT do business with this company. It has been an absolute nightmare. Complete lack of accountability, professionalism, punctuality and standards. I documented all the issues along the way. 1. I was not provided a written contract. Two days before the project started, I met with a representative of the company to provide to review job specs and confirm the price. The job specs I provided were the same list used during our initial meeting, and to other vendors I received a quote from. We discussed the list during a walk-thru of the home and agreed what work was to be completed. The day the project began there were additional charges. For example, I was not told during the verbal quote or pre-project meeting that the total for the work to be done only included one coat of paint. I found this out when the project started, and the "painters" discovered the walls, ceilings and doors would require two to four coats of paint. They could not perform additional coats without an additional charge. 2. I was told all supplies were bought new to be used for my project, so I owned them. They did not show up with new supplies. As he said, "he used up what the guys had". On the last day of the project, they went to the store and bought new supplies for their employees, because as I was told, we used up what their team had so the company had to replace it, at my cost. If the supplies for my project had been purchased as stated, the following paint defects would not have happened with the painting service. Paint: * Speckles on base boards, smeared when wiped but never thoroughly cleaned. * Splashes on the floor covered up by my bookcase. * Speckles on the leftover, new baseboards I bought for this job and now cannot return. * On my office furniture * On my dining room chair, where no painting was being done. * On the bathroom floor where no paint was being done. * Splashed on my clothes in a closet where no painting was being done. * On extension cords, outlets, and adapters. * Paint and cement on the kitchen floor where no painting was being done. * Splattered on new router. * Speckles on my new laminate floors throughout the house, even in rooms not painted. * Splattered on the side of refrigerator. * On the balcony and patio furniture where no painting was being done. * Paint on my ceiling fan light 3. The company was to replace the old casing and dispose of the old. The old casings were removed and were left on the floor, in the closet leaning against my clothes and in the bathroom tub. Since the nails were still attached to the baseboards this made an extremely dangerous environment for my dog. I had to take all the casing to the garbage. 4. I was told my project would be completed by Wednesday (two days). The crew came back on Thursday to complete the project. However, when they left, they told me they would be back Friday morning. They never showed up. They returned on Monday. Because the project was blown off on Friday this is what I had to live with over the weekend. * No doorknobs on any interior doors so I could not close them. * I had to clean up debris every evening after they left. * They left a full industrial size garbage bag in the kitchen along with pieces of casing. * I had to throw out two solid bi-fold doors which the crew was supposed to do. * empty paint cans were left everywhere. I had to gather and toss those. * some type of power leaked from something which left piles of powder on the second floor, near the elevator and on the first floor which I had to vacuum up so my neighbors would not report me to management. 5. The casing on one of the doors was not installed. (Which was in the contract. 6. The bi-fold doors were not hung, but I was told they would provide a quote to complete that project. 7. When the company showed up Monday morning there was only a couple of hours of work left. I took all day and I had to track them because they stood around doing nothing... 8. The threshold was missing on one door. They swept their debris into the crack. 9. There was sanding to be done near the table I was sitting. They sanded without asking me to move. The sand got on my lunch, in my drink, in my hair everywhere. When I complained I was told, "well it is done now. The representative from the firm kept talking about quality, this work is far from quality and people need to know. read more

I rarely write Yelp reviews, but I feel compelled to write this one. I am baffled by so many positive reviews for Luis Handyman Service because my experience was the polar opposite. I reached out to Luis on Sunday, 10/7/18, to discuss tiling two bathroom floors and replacing threes toilets in my townhouse. He called me back within the hour. We chatted for 5 minutes or so about the particulars of my job and he stated that it was something he could easily do in a day. Naturally, I thought we would arrange a time for him to see the bathrooms and give me an estimate as is the custom. I live in DuPage County on the border of Naperville/Aurora, which he said was within his service area. Instead, Luis asked me to take a couple of pictures of each bathroom and send to him. Since my job was pretty routine he assured me he could quote it based on the pics. Luis said he would text a quote to me "right after" I sent the pics. I sent the pics with 10 minutes and two hours passed without a reply. I finally followed up with him after 3 hours. Luis thanked me for the pics and said he "would review and have a quote ready for you in the morning", meaning Monday morning, 10/8/18. It's Tuesday afternoon, 10/9/18, and I have not heard a peep from Luis. No quote. Nothing. While I cannot speak to the quality of his work, his lack of professionalism and follow through on a basic estimate tells me everything I need to know. I have now contracted with a reputable contractor to do a complete remodel of both of my bathrooms. Your loss, Luis. read more

I discovered Luis Handyman Service by accident while attempting to research another Luis home service guy that my realtor recommended. I initially got a partial estimate from "realtor recommended" Luis that unfortunately didn't include the bathroom remodel. He took a few days but did provide me with his estimate. Thinking a second estimate wouldn't be a bad idea I reached out to Glendale Luis. Once we scheduled a time for him to visit my home, G Luis was friendly confident and took in everything that I was looking to do. He provided his estimate a day or so later. His estimate came out a few grand higher but included the bathroom remodel work. I attempted reaching out to RR Luis to see if he could get someone to come over for the bathroom estimate but he was non-responsive. G Luis gave me his upsell stating that his time was being filled fast and his estimate really was a fair estimate. Pressed for time myself (originally hoping to finish everything before end of June so I could put my old house on the market), I decided to go for G Luis. I gave G Luis a copy of my house keys since I was splitting time between my old place and my new home to make it easier for him and his crew to do work if I happen to not be around. For the major work I was overall happy with what was done. My bathroom was upgraded from its dated 80's look into a more modern feel with nicely decorated tile shower with matching tile flooring. They did a good job on the hardwood flooring at the downstairs level and I was happy with the carpet rep they had re-carpet my upstairs. They also repainted my kitchen and bathroom and installed a dishwasher, blower & stove I bought from Restore shop. For an extra fee, he also had his team fix my old style crank windows that were non-functional mostly due to my old association paint company painting the windows shut. Also he repainted the front deck and powerwashed & repaired a few bad boards on the back deck. In the process they accidentally broke one of my windows and replaced the glass out of their pocket. The only part of job at the time I wasn't satisfied on was to fix an electrical issue in the back stair light in the laundry room. But G Luis conceded that he wasn't able to figure out why the power to that light wouldn't come on. I suggested putting a cover plate over it which he never did and I wound up doing myself later. In the end I spent about $2000 over my budget though I always cracked up because he kept telling me we were within budget. When the job was done, G Luis told me to keep in touch to let him know if there were any issues. He even kept my house keys. When I attempted to get in touch with G Luis a couple months later he wouldn't return my calls or texts. I needed him to look into some issues found later by the buyer's inspector of my home. I should've known there'd be an issue when he didn't respond to my mentioning that I found a buyer for my home and would only reach out to him if any issues were found in their inspection. My money tree was completely pruned and it was time for him to move on...LOL. One of the issues flagged wound up being on the aforementioned replacement glass that they put in my kitchen window. According to the buyer's inspector that glass needed to be a thermopane style double layered glass like the other windows currently had. His "disappearing act" left a sour taste. Due to the window and a couple separate findings (not related to any items I requested G Luis to fix), I wound up having to give the buyer of my house a higher credit. Ugh. (As an aside I did get a random call from him 12/28, at least two and a half months after my last attempt to reach him but it was too little too late.) But I will say aside from the mentioned issues (and some other stuff I rather not mention but he did rectify), he did good on what was needed. In that regard I give my endorsement. Just don't expect any follow-up afterwards as he by then will move on to greener pastures. I'm grateful though that at least there were no major incomplete items that left me needing to find another contractor. I've heard those horror stories before. I'm also grateful that I did find a buyer for my old house relatively quick (no doubt partially due to G Luis work). read more

We decided to freshen up the house and paint. I was referred to Luis by a family member who has always been pleased with his work. I now know why. Luis is great to work with. He is honest, will tell you like it is, if it's a good idea or not, he is timely and MOST IMPORTANTLY, his work is good!!! One thing to know though is that he is busy. Luis and his guys show up at 830 on the dot. Luis was not there all of the time as he had other projects, but He came by in the afternoon each day to check up on them and make sure they are doing what they need to. He spot checks their work. He makes sure the guys are cleaning up after themselves. I would say he is a no nonsense kind of guy, but very personable and reasonably priced. He also is adaptive, which is very important. We all change our minds on color or if we should close off a cubby hole to make the wall flush. He reacts quickly, and will adjust as needed, at a cost of course :). When we were all done, we did a final walk thru, and he made sure every patch was clean. He will even pick up the brush to keep things moving. Overall, Luis and his team are professional as well as courteous. They worked around me, my wife, parents, and 4 yr old daughter crazy life. I'm thinking of doing a backsplash in the kitchen and replacing a tub/tile/shower in the near future, Luis is the first call I will make. read more

I had list of a bunch of items, some of which I wasn't even sure were within the capabilities of a handyman. Not only did he seal off the doggy door, he also completed every single other item on the list, for example: fixing cabinets, repainting a section of a wall, resealing doors, and fixing an internal door that would not latch correctly. We even changed what we needed done a couple times and he was very flexible with us. He ended up putting a backsplash in our kitchen and it came out great! They were in out and in a few days. And cleaned up well for the most part. Only thing I'd say is that he has to be around in order for his crew to work most efficiently.
