It was our first time going to the Luke Days air show, and we will never put ourselves through this again. They were insanely disorganized, and unless you've seen the news stories about this you may think I'm exaggerating. We had a FOUR hour line of cars to get to the supposedly VIP parking. Yes, it was literally over four hours. We missed most of the day. They had ONE (1) person checking tickets to let cars in. Let me say that again, ONE person to let cars in. Ridiculous. Inside, security was a mess, nobody knew which carts or what we should take to our again supposed VIP spot inside. read more

I was at Luke Air Force Base for Luke Days 2026. My time was mostly spent on the tarmac looking at displays and watching the air show flying demonstrations. I just wanted make the comment that every military person I interacted with was very friendly and informative. I'm not pro-military or anti-military. Came here for the Air Show, just disappointed about how they were not able to manage the traffic going into the parking lot. People paid $50 per car and were given crappy directions. Show started at 11am but we got into the base at 2pm. Base is big, not much to see around. Food and drinks were overpriced. I guess, we were expecting more. read more

It's super fun to park in the "No Parking" area at the end of the runway on Northern and watch the fighters take off. The visuals are cool but the sound of them flying overhead is what makes it special. read more

We are about 10 miles from Luke. I don't consider that "living near the base". The fights start at 7:15 am and continue all day as late as 10-11:00. I'm as patriotic as the next guy but 50+ flights a day is annoying. It's not like they're way off in the distance. Some of the flights make the house shake. I see plenty of homes around here for sale and I wonder if it's because of the jet noise. Sometimes I think it may be time to move! I wish they would change their flight pattern once in a while so we could catch a break. read more

These jets blaring over my home and thousands and thousands of others as late as 11:30 PM!!!!! Why does this need to be done this late at night? Not to mention there are multiple ones all day long. Is there not an air base somewhere near a more remote area? This affects the communities of Glendale, Peoria, Sun City, Sun City West. Surprise, Tolleson, Waddell and more. 11:30 at night is ridiculous. read more

This place is very clean, well laid out and easy to navigate on foot. They have sidewalks and paved paths. The playgrounds, FamCamp and BX are outstanding. One may easily walk to outdoor airplane exhibits, the dining facility* (lost a star for the base here), post office, gas station and several gates. There are many fast food options, a cafe and a restaurant. If you have kids they'll love this base. There are very tall cactus here too. *lose 1 star because the dining facility which is part of USAF morale needs new blood. If interested my review is on Yelp. read more

We came to check out the PX (or the MCX, Exchange...what have you) for Holiday shopping. Fantastic idea! A cross between a Sears (remember them?), a Walmart/Target combo, they seemed to have something for everyone with good prices to boot. Price reductions, etc...my Wife said the store buyer picked good merch and I have to agree. Plus the staff and general populace were in good spirits, especially for a Saturday 2 weeks before Christmas. A very clean store, as well. Also; people seemed more respectful of others here...! Worth (for us) the 3 hour drive! read more

I wish I could give zero stars. What an AWFUL experience. We purchased tickets for the air show and were told to arrive before 9am to beat traffic. We got here at 8:15am and are still sitting on line, not even half way to the exit at 10am. There are ZERO bathrooms, so not sure how someone who had to use the bathroom could. There are ZERO police officers monitoring the traffic line and other cars are trying to sneak in, causing blockages in the middle lane on the highway. The paid tickets/handicapped line isn't any faster than the free admission line. This is an extremely unorganized event and I will not return. Someone with a couple stars on their collar oughta come out and start taking ownership and organization of traffic if they want anyone to come back to this event again. read more

We went to air show this morning while getting in line I was asked for my id and showed them my Arizona drivers license and also had told them we are U.S citizens but they had intentionally put us on a bus full of foreigners . We had to get in line after security checked again and we had to tell one of the officers that we were not foreigners just because we are Asians. These people are discriminating and racists. It was our first air show and definitely will be our last time ever step foot in luke Air Force base. read more

Today we decided to head up and check out the last day of Luke Days. We were so impressed with the show that actually kept my 8 year olds sons attention for 4 hours! I was invited to the Blues Brews and BBQ event recently, August 2021 at the Luke AFB Fort Tuthill recreation area, in Flagstaff, Arizona. I can't seem to delete the review here so FYI this is for Fort Tuthill location The blues band was set up center stage with many chairs around the stage -- most spectators opting to grab a chair and cluster into their formidable parties on the very open and spacious lawn. The band played great! I don't listen to the blues often so that was awesome and very relaxed. We sat under a large porched area against the back entrance to the hotel. The beer vendors were set up perfectly for us to sample beer and see the stage with plenty of shade. We ended up spending about $50 for admission and beer sample coupons, $20 for two six packs of beer, $40 on bar-b-q, $130 on the king size hotel room. When it got darker the fire pit was lit up and about half a dozen of us hovered here quite a while. We enjoyed the safe, open, clean and friendly outdoor environment from the moment we arrived at 4pm until we headed to our room at 10pm. Our room was very clean. The sheets smelled clean. The fridge stored my left over bar-b-q and there was a microwave to heat it up... the shower water stayed hot and nice! There was not air conditioning in the room but the high was around 80 low was 71 so no big deal because the ceiling fan worked great and was not loud! We were facing the parking lot on the second floor but it was not a stress at all because the lot is secured and contained with no busy roads or streets nearby (and in the trees). I left a $5 tip for the housekeeping, the entire staff deserves a tip, and more than $5, honestly. They seemed like a great, happy and knowledgeable team. read more

Woo hoo, how exciting was Luke Air days 2018 this past weekend!! I really enjoyed the six hours of arial displays from World War II aircraft through the latest F35 fighter Jets. It's not every day Luke is open to the public, but hey did such a great job coordinating parking, buses from the remote parking lots and vendors on site for the estimated 200,000+ people each day. I feel like there was a mile of vendors serving shaved ice's, lemonade, burgers, salads, Mediterranean, pizza, steaks, barbecue and more. There were three or four different planes to tour, in not much of an enthusiast and didn't pay much attention to the particular aircraft, but walking through the cargo plane, and mid air refueling craft was pretty cool. If you get the chance to come out next year or a year there after, get there early, 9 or 10 am, bring some portable camping type chairs along, plenty of water and lots of sun screen, plan to spend the day taking in the excitement of all the different air crafts! read more

I don't even know where I should complain about this. But I feel like the flight plans for "training" or whatever, need to change! I don't appreciate the sound of fighter jets flying over our house every night at 11 PM! It's none stop for like 20 minutes and gets so loud and close it rattles the window! I live at Happy and 67th Ave, this should not be the case! Isn't there enough desert or freeway space to fly over!? It's literally happening right now, so unsettling! read more

What a great show. As kids we used to attend the shows all the time with my step father he was an apache longbow pilot so we got special treatment. But today what a neat event. Parking was awful awful awful! But I'd come back for the show! Just blows me away what they can do! I reccomend to check it out tomorrow or next year! read more

Oh my goodness!! I loved being here with my husband!! My husband is a Air Force veteran. This brought back such great memories for him. He missed it so much. The air show was amazing. The displays were excellent. The service men that were there to answer any questions did an excellent job. However, there were NO questions with my husband. He taught me SO much. Mainly come here for Legal and Exchange services. The Legal Dept can get very busy. I highly suggest you make an appointment. As for the exchange it can get quite busy as well. I feel like they don't carry a lot of brands that other exchanges do. They tend to run out of items quickly and don't restock. I had a bad experience with a cashier, he overcharged me on an makeup item & couldn't fix his mistake and directed me to customer service. There was only one cashier at customer service while there was 15 people waiting in line. I feel like during holiday hours they need to have full services. There was another customer behind us that had the same issue as us and was overcharged at the time of purchase! So I advise you to double check your receipt before leaving the cashier/store! The only perks of visiting today was getting my Starbucks fix. read more

These pilots can't ever fly above the 500' federally regulated minimum over our neighborhood. They constantly try to break the sound barrier above our roof to compensate for the lack of training necessary for the Air Force to actually be a useful contribution to our government. Mind you they are training above farmland so not sure how much use they really are dodging crop dusters and the occasional haboob. My veteran father constantly boasts about those jets being the sound of freedom, but all they have ever contributed too is the sound of my tinnitus, so thank you for that. Don't bother calling their voicemails are full, probably from all the victims who also suffer some form of hearing loss or have had the pleasure to listen to their shoddy flying routine. The Air Force is the equivalent to that one annoying neighbor that compensates for his poor self esteem and huge ego with that massive muffler they rev constantly to make their presence known. Some wake up to chickens, others the sounds of the city, but in Litchfield it's the wonderful car alarm going off early in the morning and the roof trembling as they thunder clap under 500' above our house. read more

Chair force. I have to come on this base for my childrens' appointments and various other "task" and or "chores" and quite frankly most of the time I wish i didn't. The air force is a different beast all together and it shows in the way they walk, talk, care for etc... I was neutral as not to be biased but, this is a two star base at best. read more

Luke AFB's Fighter Country Inn discriminates against Retirees -- won't give retirees rooms when rooms are vacant. Can't make a reservation on the Air Force's on-line web site. Always says "No Availability", but if you ask if there are rooms available for Active Duty, PCS or TDY the computer says they have rooms available. Buckley AFB in Denver does the same thing. Discrimination. Everyone running Fighter Country Inn should be fired. read more

Attended the Open House and Airshow at Luke AFB on Saturday, March 19. If you are thinking of going on Sunday READ THIS FIRST! Mistake #1 was leaving later than I should have. Traffic getting there was a nightmare. Took 1.5 hours to get to off-base parking and that is after I figured out a shortcut that took 30 minutes off the wait in VERY slow stop and go traffic. Part of the problem was that I was following directions from 3 years ago rather than the online map for this year. Mistake #2. My bad. I'll do better next year. Check out the Open House web site (http://fightercountry.org/fighter-country-events/luke-air-force-base-2011-airshow-open-house/72538) for items that you can and cannot bring on base. The check point is in the parking area before you board the buses. BTW: Parking is $10 per vehicle and entrance to the base is free. The off-base parking was a farmer's field that had been cleared and leveled to make way for vehicles. Dusty and dirty, but it sufficed. School buses were used to shuttle us to the base and they were lined up and leaving 3 or 4 at a time. Nice that they did not make us wait long in the field. Good planning here. We did not arrive on base until about 1PM and I was afraid we missed some of the best aircraft flights. Some guy was selling programs and other trappings for $10, but we opted out. I was greatly encouraged when the F-22 Raptor started it's routine as we were walking towards the flight line. And holy cow, what a walk! Maybe 600 feet to the edge of the taxiway. It was hard to tell if you were making good progress because the vendors and people in folding chairs were spread out all over the place and you really had to snake around to move closer to the flight line. The aforementioned Raptor was amazing. I've seen video of it before, but this aircraft is truly something to see in flight. Because of the vectoring engine nozzles and fly-by-wire system this large jet can remain under the pilots control at extremely slow speeds and high angles of attack. Funny that the most impressive thing about this Mach capable stealth fighter is its slow speed capabilities. This year Luke allowed folding chairs (just no reclining lawn chairs) and I brought some in the car. We decided that, since we were arriving so late, we would not take them in. Mistake #3. It did not take long for me to lament that decision since there were plenty of places to set up the chairs and it would have been a lot easier eating lunch. Speaking of lunch. The vendors were everywhere! I do mean everywhere. The area allotted for visitors was so vast that they were spread out so far you could not see many of the vendors until you actually walked over much nearer. You could see some tents and signs all over the place, but what it was you were walking towards was not immediately clear. There is no "vendors row." Thankfully, some of the vendors had duplicate sites so you wouldn't have to walk a half mile to get the sandwich and beverage combination you desired. Food is expensive. Cost for 2 brauts and 1 bottled water = $17. You cannot bring in food or beverages. Some very cool planes flew and even more are on static display. You cannot get close to the Raptor or any plane that is flying at the show, though. They are parked across the tarmac from the spectator area. They cancelled the Army Golden Knight parachute team demo. I do not know why. They did announce over the PA system, but unless you were standing very near them all it did was create background noise. I'd say grab a program so you would know what the schedule was, but they got so far off schedule by later afternoon it made little difference. Eventually some kids in fatigues were driving around in a cart giving out the programs for free and I then saw that the Air Force Thunderbirds were set to fly next. It was another hour before they did finally get airborne though. This is my only real complaint about the air show. Pacing. At least that afternoon it moved very slowly. We actually were leaving just as the "Birds" were starting their routine. We saw a good deal of it on the way to the parking lot. We decided that we did not want to spend another hour-and-a-half in traffic on the way out. Overall, I would recommend the open house to anyone who enjoys watching military aircraft. It is a relaxed event. If you can deal with long lines getting in, out, and getting food it can be great fun. Take the sunscreen, umbrellas, folding chairs, and plenty of cash. Super Secret Shortcut: If approaching from the north on 101 take Bell Rd exit. W. on Bell to Litchfield Rd. S. on Litchfield to Peoria. Officers and signage will direct you W. to the "B" lot. I like fast cars and faster jet planes! Having recently seen the air show at Miramar in San Diego, I have been bitten by the jet bug. Absolutely amazing to see these fighter planes up close and personal, talk to the pilots, and then watch the air show as the jets zip by with their afterburners blazing and the roar deafening. Luke Air Force Base was very well organized, they had thousands upon thousands of parking spots with great directions. The walk to the actual show it was quite far in excess of a mile perhaps even a mile and a half. There were lots of vendors selling water for reasonable price of one dollar per bottle. They must havehad over 1000 Porta potty's located everywhere.There was a huge selection of food vendors, and what I really liked is all the food vendors were spread out over the entire facility not bunched up in a little area. It can get pretty hot on the tarmac considering all the concrete. The highlight of the show was the reenactment of the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor including rebuilt Japanese Zero replicas used in the movie Tora Tora Tora, and P 52's. They even had B-17 bombers, and the MC made sure to tell the whole story of Pearl Harbor. I'm a World War II buff, and having recently been to Pearl Harbor, it was exciting to see this reenactment. Another real cool thing on this hot day, was the use of rickshaws shuttling people back-and-forth to the parking lots. I'm not sure how much they cost, but for the elderly population they seem to really enjoy this perk. The best part, the entire show was free! read more

I was stationed here for years and even separated from the military at Luke AFB. The wheel rotates every few 1 stars, (Brigadier Generals) with the frequent oscillating decision to open & closes multiple entries/exits aka the "gates." The Library is rarely open, bowling alley closed down, theatre doesn't even play movies, car wash at the class 6 is never fully mission capable, many squadrons have zero covered parking in 115 degree weather with UV index of 9 average, : just a few "little things" that take away from the ambience. Kind of a gentrified-ghost-town-meets-F-35-MONEY. The sunrises_sunsets are INCREDIBLY picturesque. LOTS of jet noise! It's a training base, so there are always jets launching, all hours of the day are pretty much fair game. Even houses in any of their flight paths are shown a waiver to sign because a jet flyover all hrs on the clock gets INTENSE! If you enjoy the heat and the distance from the heart and soul of the East Valley, then Luke AFB may be a solid match for you. *I wonder what would have happened had the base been built in a different location read more

I loved that the rooms at the hotel here are super spacious and come with full kitchens. Also love the display of airplanes. It is really something cool to see. I hate that you have to get civilian care as they don't have an actual hospital but whatever. Not all bases do. read more

I like the Luke Days! My wife, nephew, and I went for Luke Days yesterday. It was a great airshow. What was especially good was the Blue Angels. Woohoo! That was something! It was worth trip out of Mesa AZ. It was worth the US$10 for parking. Go see it!!! read more

Visited for Luke Days and was impressed with how clean the base/flight line was despite the thousands of people that were there. The bus service to and from the parking lot was quite efficient considering how many people they had to move. Busses were constantly moving. Great job, Luke! read more

Our family attend Luke Days on Sunday, March 20th and had a good time. I love that the admission is free, so everyone can see the airplanes and the show. We did arrive early so we didn't have any issues with traffic or parking. Everything was very organized. The show was awesome and the kids loved it! We will definately be going again next year. However, there is room for improvement. The food was good but VERY pricey. The kid zone was also very pricey and the lines for the bounce houses were awful. We waited 30-40 minutes for the kids to go on the rocket ship bounce house and they all agreed that it was NOT worth it. The rides the older kids wanted to go on, were too much money. I understand they have to make up for the free admission for $10 per kid to go inside of plastic ball or jump on a trampoline, or $4 for a small fry, or $5 for a lemonade - even Disneyland is cheaper. Suggestions for visitors next year: bring your own chair (rentals are $5 a chair and the ground is uncomfortable), bring your own water but don't open until you're inside, bring plenty of snacks, and don't show your kids the kid zone unless you prepared to spend a lot of money. read more
