We had a great first visit to one of the Sun City branches of the Maricopa Library District. We…read morecame in to pick up a Desert Milkweed Seed Kit that were being given out today, Earth Day, at all Maricopa District libraries. The staff were so friendly and helpful here and my daughter also ended up getting her library card. It only took a few minutes. She chose a library card that has a scorpion on it that glows in the dark. Very cool. We enjoyed looking at all of the books, audiobooks, movies, and culture passes available. There's even an option to check out a ukulele at this branch! We checked out the Friends of the Library Bookstore attached to the library by a small hallway with restrooms, a relaxation room and a microfiche room. The bookstore is one of the nicest and most curated friends of the library bookstores I have seen. Everything is organized alphabetically and decorated and clean. Books are very affordable priced around $0.25 to $1.00. We were greeted by the friendliest staff helper when we walked in.

So what did we make? Fidgets. One black one like a mini joystick, an Oreo, and a clicking gear (all shown in my pics). She explained that they are fun for everyone, but that neurodivergent people like those with ADHD find them handy to help increase focus or for self soothing. She had books about neurodivergency lined up on the book cart so we could look through them and check them out if we wanted to. I wasn't expecting this extra educational aspect to what I thought was just seeing a 3d printer work, so it was a very well rounded program and all of us in this multi age group really enjoyed it.

See my elaboration below. 2) There is a need for more space. 3) The front desk staff are abrasive and dismissive. 4) There is not enough adult books. My elaboration: Yesterday 6/30 the library hosted an event for the Great American Puppet Theatre. We arrived early to the event to get a seat. When we arrived to the 11:30 showing it was a huge line. We went to the front desk to ask how we participate and they told us the show is full and we couldn't partake. SUPER bumbed that we didn't even have a chance. The woman at the front was rude and had no sympathy, she just starred at us. This is the second time we've tried to attend an event and couldn't. The room was small and the reason we were turned away was because of fire code. This event should've been a pre-registration to avoid people driving and then being turned away. Also, there was so many adults that could've stepped out to give more children an opportunity to join. I was NOT the only parent & child that was turned away. GPD continues to let me down to say the least. They simply don't protect or serve the community…read more My son went to a trampoline park & had his sneakers stolen. The thief was caught on camera & they even had a close up of his face. They phoned in the investigation and the thief was never caught. Case closed. "Sorry" is what I got from the detective. I have awful neighbors. One neighbor had 4 dogs that would bark hysterically outside 24 hours a day & night, non-stop. Speaking to my neighbor did nothing. So for 3 years I called the police & they did nothing too. Thank God he moved. One officer called me after one call, "I hear the dogs barking, your neighbors are home but they are not answering the door so I can't do anything." Such a great effort. For 5 years I've called the police about a neighbor who consistently does handy work on his front drive way at late hours 10pm to 4am. You'll hear power washer, drills, saws, generator, etc The police always pull up, roll down the window & tell him to stop. Soon as they leave my asshole neighbor starts his power tools again. Like what's the point? They don't give out tickets for disturbing the peace? They only give out tickets for speeding vehicles.
