BEWARE...DR. IWATA no longer owns this practice!! After over 15 years of excellent dental care with Dr. Iwata in Loma Linda, I am deeply disappointed by the changes implemented since his retirement less than a year ago. The new owners, Dr. Johnson and team, require X-rays every 12 to 18 months , even though the ADA recommends X-rays every 24 to 36 months, unless there is a significant dental issue (https://www.ada.org/enmember-center/oral-health-topics/~/media/0666B35FBAFF4459814E5E635142638A.ashx). At my recent teeth cleaning appointment, I was told X-rays were MANDATORY and that the cleaning could not proceed without them. I explained that I was not interested in having X-rays since it had only been 18 months since my last set, and I've had no dental issues. Despite offering to sign a liability waiver TWICE during our conversation, the dentist refused and insisted on the X-rays. Being coerced into paying for an unnecessary service is both frustrating and UNETHICAL. Patients should have the right to make informed decisions about their care without pressure or ultimatums. This is based upon my experience of working in health care for 30+ years. Furthermore, the practice still heavily utilizes Dr. Iwata's name in texts, on their website, and in other communications, despite his retirement nine months ago. It is concerning that the new dentists' names and information are not mentioned on the website so patients can research where they went to school, work experience, etc. This reliance on Dr. Iwata's reputation and unwillingness to publicly attach their name to Dr. Iwata's FORMER practice, suggests they may be struggling to build trust with patients on their own merit. The staff, who formerly worked for Dr. Iwata, are excellent but without a competent dentist who values their patients there is not a reason to continue seeking care at this practice. Other changes include a $50 fee for canceling an appointment less than 48 hours in advance and requiring a dentist consultation at EVERY cleaning, resulting in additional charges. Under Dr. Iwata, cleanings were straightforward and did not necessitate extra fees unless the Hygienist found something of concern. Many times, Dr. Iwata would come in to assess xrays or my chart without charging a consultation fee. There are MANY excellent dentists in the area, so it is time to move on to one who RESPECTS patients, VALUES their choices, and builds trust based on their own reputation--not someone else's. read more

Dr Iwata was a great dentist and now retired. I went in a month ago for a teeth cleaning which usually cost 120 dollars. Will the new dentist my bill at the end of the day was 224 dollars which included what my insurance would pay. They required x-rays even though I had no tooth problems. At the end a dentist came in and did a Quick Look at my teeth which took no more than 3 minutes. I was charged 65.00 for this and my prior two dentist did this for free. I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months and will look for another dental office. read more

This Yelp review is well overdue. ‍ Dr. Iwata has been my families Dentist for decades. I don't think there is a better team in the Inland Empire! They work hard at taking care of your teeth as if they were their own! If there were 6 stars I would have selected it. As I said, they not only care for your wellbeing, but they ensure you are comfortable and feel like family whenever you are there. Like a previous one star review, they say your insurance will cover most of the bill. I gave them my insurance card and they checked and said it would cover 80% so I went and got a check up/ cleaning. So I paid 20% of the bill that day and they said I was paid in full. Month later I receive a bill for close to $200 with no explanation. Now they try to say that my insurance didn't work. Stay away from these scammers!!! read more

My husband and I trust Dr. Iwata and have been his patients over 30 years until we tried to take advantage from SCAN Medicare benefit with Delta Care USA. Regarding people who complained about the billing issue, make sure you read and understand what your insurance covers! Trust me... From the front office to the techs and hygienists and then Dr Luke himself it's a 10 out of 10 in this office. Professional, kind and accommodating. Dr Luke explains everything in an understandable way and goes to great lengths to insure your comfortable with what's happening. During Covid he and his staff are maintaining a super high level of cleanliness (they always did - now it's even higher) and taking every precaution to keep the client and the staff safe. I rarely give out 5 stars because there's always room for improvement, but I can't imagine a more professional or competent place anywhere. read more

I used to be afraid of going to the dentist. I'm extremely happy with Dr Iwata (and Doris-she's great too). The first time I walked into his office, I saw his business cards folded up in origami and looking back, appreciate the relevance of how he practices. Aside from a painless experience, I appreciate the attention to detail and the artistic aesthetics he applies when making crowns or veneers. I have recommended his to friends and would recommend him in general though that could possibly make getting appointment for me harder in the future... Now here's one to watch out for. Make sure your insurance will cover what they submit and not what they tell you. Twice (and never again) have they done the old David Copperfield move and then deny, deny, deny. Also keep a close eye on your credit report for they'll attach the dispute without explanation. I have just gotten home from my first visit with Dr. Iwata and WOW am I impressed. Dr. Iwata was able to find and diagnose things related to my dental care that neither I nor my past dentist could see. He was the nicest guy, his staff was amazing, and I really felt at home. I have been going to Dr. Iwata's office since 2001. I haven't needed dental work other than for the usual preventive care, but I have always been pleased with the service. The office is clean, well organized and well furnished with flat screen computers in each patient room, on which your history and xrays are stored. Melva has always been my hygenist, and not once have I ever winced with discomfort. It can be difficult to get an appointment unless you book in advance, although there were several times I was able to be taken of a cancellation list. I would recommend his office to anyone in the Inland Empire, with the caveat that I cannot comment on the quality of more complicated dental work. read more

Is it wrong that all I kept thinking about when I had my teeth cleaned was how incredibly good Dr. Iwata's skin looks? His website is filled with some tropical trip he had with his staff (possibly to Hawaii?) and I kept asking myself what sunscreen he uses. If it turns out he's a secret dermatologist, I'll go to him, for that, too! Went there based on Yelp reviews and I was blown away by the care, the office, and the staff. I got the impression from the moment I arrived until my appointment ended that he really cares about his patients. He's incredibly friendly and he likes to get to know the patient, especially when they're there for the first time. I love how modern the office is. Previously, I had gone to the same dentist for years where they were still using old-fashioned machines. This place has those x-rays that scan you 360 degrees and large monitors that show you how your teeth look. Love the aquarium in the reception area. Also, he crochets! read more

I have used Dr Iwata for 10+years. I would not consider going elsewhere. Lovely office, professional staff, and excellent care. Staff always knows your history and your plan. Always available able to address concerns. Very understanding of unplanned scheduling issues! The concern that others have raised is that costs are slightly higher. But hey folks, you get what you pay for and I don't want anyone I don't trust providing my healthcare. I recently had my first dental experience with Dr. Iwata himself. I had chipped a tooth with an existing filling and it seemed to have weakened the overall structure of the tooth itself. The edges of the tooth were jagged and it made me feel like my teeth were falling apart in my mouth despite my overall good dental health. I'm happy to report that in LESS THAN AN HOUR my tooth was fixed, my filling was replaced (with a nice natural looking one) and I was on my way. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Iwata and his team. I am a customer for life. read more

Dr. Iwata is wonderful. He's very knowledgeable and kind. His staff is great and very efficient. I've been seeing him for two years and have never had an issue. I see Loni for my cleaning and she's very gentle, friendly, and knowledgeable as well. I had a cleaning last week and Loni found a spot that looked questionable. Dr. Iwata came in, checked it and talked to me about getting my filling fixed since there was decay. Their billing rep came in immediately to discuss my insurance, and everything was easy and quick. I left for 2 years because it was easier to keep the family closer to home with our schedules. Well I returned to Dr Iwata. His Care and concern are worth the extra commute. I don't enjoy going to the dentist but I'm able to relax as much as possible when in the chair because I trust Dr. Iwata. Every decision he makes will always be in your best interest. I just left and with the help of a blanket and a aroma therapy neck pillow (all provided) was able to doze off while waiting to get numb for my procedure.
