It's difficult to rate this motel. It's definitely much better than most the reviews led me to believe. The room was clean. The place is a mix of updated retro style and just kinda old but overall ok. For a cheap motel it's decent. I would stay here again. The staff was friendly except one girl at reception. The bed was comfortable. Lots of contractors staying here which wasnt bad or good but some smoked pot outside at night and just hung out so going outside was a little weird. Overall the motel feels safe though. To sum it up... clean enough, safe enough, good value for the money. I did find a few bugs in the room (spider, roach, etc) but silver city has lots of bugs. Breakfast in the lobby was limited but i enjoyed the coffee and bagel. read more

Stayed here one night while I was driving through town. Was looking for something kind of unique and this popped up. Sounded like an older property that had been remodeled and updated, but beyond the pictures you see online it was clear that it wasn't. We had constant trouble with Wi-Fi, was slow when it worked, and it kept dropping out. Mg ac unit was loud and annoying, could barely hear the tv. I had hot water in the morning, but my daughter did not the night before. Shower seemed especially gross. Pictures attached. No one was at the front desk when we checked out, so I was unable to address with him, but they did not respond to any of my communication communications about the property. $170 for one night and there were far better options for the money. read more

Checked in for 1 night on 8/27/26. Left the room shortly after checking in, returning around 10pm. Although things were somewhat clean, the sheet barely covered the mattress topper, the bathtub had numerous areas of missing paint and didn't look like it had been cleaned. As we settled in, it was noted that a large cobweb was hanging from the ceiling. When my sister got up to examine more closely, she noticed numerous bugs on the floor, both dead and alive. Front desk employee offered to "dust" the room or move us to another room (only upstairs was available and was not an option due to physical limitations) we declined and requested a refund. We booked a room at a motel down the street and moved at 11 pm. The difference was like night and day!! And only a few dollars more. When following up with the front desk 2 days later, was told the information (including pictures) was forwarded to the refund company and could take weeks to make a determination on whether a refund will even be approved. I do not recommend this motel unless you are ok with sleeping with live bugs crawling around while you sleep, not to mention the overall condition of the room!! read more

1 Star If you're reading this while driving and thinking, "This room is only $80. How bad could it be?" pull over, grab a coffee, and book somewhere else. I made the mistake of booking this hotel while driving. Lesson learned. In 19 years of business travel, staying in hundreds of hotels across the western United States and Canada, this was the grossest hotel room I have ever walked into. Looking through recent Google reviews after checking out, I realized I should have read those first. Some guests report clean rooms, while others describe cleanliness issues similar to what I found. My experience unfortunately matched the negative reviews, not the positive ones. Let's start the tour... * The bathroom tile looked cleaner than the rest of the room, but that's where the compliments end. * The carpet around the baseboards has reached the point where I think it qualifies as a protected ecosystem. I don't believe a vacuum has visited those edges in years. * The headboard had layers of dust along the top and mysterious stains that I had no interest in identifying. * The walls had random splatters and marks that looked like they had been collecting souvenirs from previous guests. * The chairs looked like they skipped every cleaning schedule since the motel was built. * The bed skirt had what appeared to be old bug blood splattered across it. Not exactly the relaxing welcome you hope for after a long day on the road. Then came the grand finale. The bed had a two-inch memory foam topper under the sheets. While checking the bed, I found poop underneath the sheets on top of the mattress topper. Game over. At that point I wasn't wondering if I was staying. I was wondering what else I hadn't found yet. I checked out about 30 minutes after checking in. The front desk employee was polite and offered another room, but she also told me the room I was in had already been cleaned. If this was their definition of clean, there wasn't a chance I was rolling the dice on Room Number Two. No refund was offered because management wasn't available to authorize one. I wouldn't walk around this room barefoot. I wouldn't let my suitcase touch the carpet. I certainly wasn't sleeping in that bed. The bright spot? The vintage orange rotary phone was the cleanest-looking thing in the room. I almost wanted to call housekeeping from 1973 and ask if they were planning on coming back. DISGUSTING. DO NOT STAY HERE! I have never stayed in a dirtier hotel. I booked four rooms for family visiting Silver City during graduation / Memorial Day weekend. My partner and I arrived on Thurs, 5/21 to a room that was the worst I've ever experienced. There was dust on all surfaces, two dead roaches, dirt and grime on all tile floors, crumbs and dirt on the carpet, and pubic hair, urine, and grime all over the bathroom. I immediately asked for a new room, but could not be accomodated and was told that they could not clean it until the next day. I searched other hotels, but could not find availability due to the busy weekend. The next day, the room was 'cleaned', but nothing was cleaned in the bathroom and the dead bugs remained. I called the desk and another housekeeper was sent up to re-clean the room. After both attempts, the room still felt dirty and I was completely uncomfortable for the entire stay. I asked several times to speak to a manager, but one was never on duty and I have still not received a call back from one. The other three rooms I booked for family were also dirty and dingy, but none as bad as my own. I am completely disgusted by this experience and plan on posting this review on all sites until I am provided a call from management and a proper solution to the experience. read more

Ice machines don't work, free "fresh" coffee in the morning was a black syrup left over from the day before. King bed, only 3 pillows and one without a pillow case. I got an extra pillow from the front desk, but it had hair on it (eeew!). The cleaning lady was very nice and gave me clean pillow cases. The wifi is very slow! The air conditioner / heater was making weird noises and woke us up all night. The front desk person ( Annia ) was very unhelpful, doesn't smile or anything and seems not ti like her job. Clean, extremely affordable...like in the $40-50 range. Like this was an old motor inn from the 40s/50s...really it was...and now made sorta chic/cheap no frills. They offer a pretty good continental in the AM as well. Just on the Edge of downtown. BTW most local places to eat, drink, shop close on Sundays. Like dead! So go on Friday, Saturday or another day to experience Silver City. I recommend the Petroglyph trail (easy), snd the drive to Truth or Consequences is gorgeous! read more

Lulu Hotel, Silver City, NM We have stayed at this hotel before and it was fine, but it's been a couple of years. On July 12, 2025 my daughter and I checked in for two nights. First we had a problem with the door being hard to open, then we started to carry luggage in and the room didn't look very clean, there was no soap, etc. Then my daughter saw two cockroaches in the living area, and one-still kicking-in the bathroom. We spoke to the lady at the front desk and told her we could not stay there. She said she could not issue a refund but she would contact corporate. She spoke to someone on the phone and then said since we booked through Expedia, we would have to go through Expedia to get a refund. For the last week we've been talking to Expedia, to the hotel, to the hotel manager, and the hotel refuses to give us a refund. If we had just not shown up, I would understand their refusal, but under the circumstances, it's just greed. I saw other reviews that complained about the dirty rooms, and one woman said there were cockroaches crawling on her husband at night!! DON'T STAY HERE!!! read more

We stayed here on Memorial day weekend Friday and Saturday and checked out on Sunday. Loved that they stayed in touch with me through text. They text me 2 days before we arrived and answered all of my questions. When we checked in they text me that day and asked if we needed anything. It was really nice. The staff was amazing and very helpful, I left my keys in the room and they were there it help immediately. They are out and around the property most of the day and are very friendly. One of my rooms was an ADA room and it was large and clean, and the deco is so cute. I would and will stay here again. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. My husband and I booked one night. When we arrived there was no power due to a fire. We talked to the front desk and we asked them to refund us since we were not staying. They said they could not do it since we booked through booking.com. We thought ok so there should be no problems we can message booking.com later. We left and had to pay even more elsewhere. I reached out to booking.com and they said it was up to the owners to refund me. I tried calling multiple times, one time they said the owner wasn't there, then they said they were working on something regarding the incident. I also tried messaging them online and eventually they told me that it wasn't their fault that there was no power so therefore they would not refund me. It wasn't my fault either. We will NEVER recommend this place. Terrible people who never tried to meet us halfway or be understanding in our situation. Don't stay here. read more

Right away they will charge your card for your reservation. I made it perfectly clear that I would not be staying for the entire time I had reserved. It's been over three weeks and I'm still trying to get my refund for the 5 nights I didn't stay. The room was dirty with dead bugs all along the walls and a pile of coffee grounds next to the bed that was never cleaned. I requested 4 times for new towels and the room clean. The second time I asked the woman at the front desk acted like it was a huge inconvenience. I only got one towel and one wash cloth without the bathroom floor towel. Do not stay here unless you are desperately needing a horrible hotel experience. For the price, this motel gets 5 stars. It has been decades since I only paid $70 for a hotel, and been pleasantly surprised with the quality for the price. The room was very clean, new carpet and paint, firm king bed, nice water pressure in the shower, large countertop in the sink area perfect for two people to spread out, a table and chairs for eating, plus fun retro style fridge and microwave and the fridge was on the larger side and included a small freezer section, good for refreezing ice packs. The free breakfast was better than expected, instant oatmeal, two choices of cereal, a couple different yogurts, toast, breakfast meat and cheese biscuits that were refrigerated and ready for microwaving, oranges, apples and bananas, plus the staff were very nice. The wall based HVAC was new and quiet, though it was hard to get the temperature just right. Be aware that this motel is close to the highway and you will hear trucks unless you take advantage of the complimentary earplugs, even so the truck noise is still evident. I also would have liked to have a down alternative pillow option but that may be too much to ask for a budget hotel. read more

We have stayed at Lulu's several times. About three months ago we were very pleasantly impressed with this motel. Owners invested money into this place and made it a great retro motel. We have been very pleased with our previous stays. This week (7/5/23) we were terribly disappointed. Good start at registration. Stayed in a room that had been turned over, but not really cleaned. The trash was pulled and the bed was dressed. However, mini fridge was dirty, the carpet not vacuumed since there were some finger nails under the chair. The floor in the restroom was not mopped and the tile at the entrance had debris. The shower was not cleaned or wiped down ( I am so glad we always travel with disinfecting wipes). Dusty wall mount items. Commode was dirty. Sink had lime deposit build up. It's a shame because we appreciated what the owners did to this otherwise tired building. Now it seems to be going down. I stayed at Lulu for 5 days. I work night shift and I thought, since it's close to work and not near a highway it could work. However, from the minute I arrived, I was concerned. The outside smelled like someone was chain smoking pot right at the doorway. Hut I thought "give it a chance. It's no big deal." But...there were so many issues that I had to write this review. Website says that they have great tv. BS! There are like less than 20 channels and the flicker the whole time. The internet is total crap. There were 8 separate WiFi choices for the place and not one would ever stay logged on. I couldn't even have a FaceTime call or use my laptop while there. The temperature control was awful. Never comfortable, no matter how many times I adjusted it. It was always too hot or too cold. The bed was uncomfortable, however I can say it had no bedbugs. The shower, it was either ice cold or boiling hot. It was near impossible to find a normal temperature in which to get clean. Sound was a big issue as well. When I say thin, I am not even exaggerating. I could hear people zipping up their luggage. I could hear said luggage being rolled across the floor. I could hear people arguing in the parking lot. And the housekeeping staff? I could hear them rolling their carts back and forth, back and forth all morning. One even had a portable radio playing loudly on it. I had requested a late checkout as I work nights and I wanted to sleep before heading home. First off, the website states it's a $10 fee for said "service." But they charged me $30. Then, late checkout is at 2pm, but housekeeping is pounding on my door at 9:30 am. Which is early even for regular checkout. I didn't bother to request the late checkout fee back when I left on time as I've seen from other reviews that they never return money. But I will never, ever stay here again. read more

Concept and some decor is cute, but definitely not worth $90/night. The aqua microwave and fridge were adorable and the wall A/C worked great. Walkways and exterior stairs were clean. But that was the extent of the charm. The bathroom did not look like it had been deep cleaned in a while (lots of build up in corners and along floor edges), lists of dust behind up behind nightstand, bed lamps not working (not plugged in and would require moving the bed to fix), mattress topper had stains, a cockroach running through our room, weed aroma from one of the neighboring rooms, and a worker vaping behind the desk at check out. I reserved the room for four and they only gave us 3 towels, and fussed when we asked for a 4th. I'm not sure why this place gets such high ratings. DO NOT, DO NOT reserve at this scam hotel. I had a reservation for August 24, 2024 for me and my family. I called a day before and canceled reservation. I was immediately sent an email with cancelation confirmation, all good until then. For my surprised, the next day, I was charged the full amount $180.80. I thought maybe the transaction was in place and it would take a couple days for the amount to reverse on my bank account, but it never did. I spoke to the property manager, Mike. He just kept lying saying he would fix it for me, he never did. I was able to get a hold of upper manager called Jaime. He said he would fix it, but he never did. After many days and many calls to the hotel and speaking to the front clerk, which name is America, I was able to get a hold of corporate, I can't remember his name since he has a very thick accent. He told me to send him all the information, which I did right away,and he would take care of it, but guess what, he never did. They are all full of lies, Mike, Jaime and the other guy from corporate, that's how they operate. There are some other reviews with similar situations where the hotel stold their money. Very frustrating, I spent a lot of time calling, leaving messages, them telling me they would refund back my money, I ended up giving up. Mike, Jaime, you guys are both a bag of scum. I hope you both and the corporate person go to hell and suffer. It is not right to steal money from honest working people. You know who I am. I called and talked to you many times. Due to the Rico Fire that broke out yesterday, we were told to evacuate our home in Pinos Altos...we decided to hotel it for the night and drove straight to Lulu next to Wendy's on hwy 180 in Silver City...we've heard great things about this little place, and from family members who actually stayed there...their rate for our family was $65 a night (January 2023). Last night was a bit different...the girl at the desk quoted us $125 plus a $25 dog fee and required a deposit on top of this of $150. When my husband and I questioned her, she said their policy was ,we don't rent to locals....uggh, what????it's a deterrent and on top of taking advantage of our fire, decided to gouge us on the rate...totally disappointed and discouraged, we declined and drove to the next hotel..Holiday Inn Express, booked, but had the same policy....drove to the next hotel, Comfort Inn, booked, same policy...NO LOCALS!!!! Running out of options, we drove into Copper Manor, they had a room, $125 including our dog and no outrageous deposit...we will not recommend any of the previous hotels for that BS policy of no locals...we are not drug dealers or addicts and last time I checked, I'm not a hooker....no caring, no hospitality, just "it is what it is". read more

But they do not clean it, our sheets were stained with what looked like blood, there was dirt everywhere the counters were not even wiped down the bathroom was horrendous unfinished dirty the shower had toe clipping an old razor in it and the shower water is scolding hot or super cold no in between the shower curtain smelled like piss! We asked them to clean it out and all they did was change out the trash! I do not recommend this place at all! I really do hope they take better care of their stuff! read more

Cute spot in Silver City with the retro style chic feel. When I checked in the floor of the room was full of bugs and there was no TV. I let them know that the gap around the door was allowing swarms of beetles to enter the room. I asked for another room and was given a better room with a TV, but no WiFi (signal too weak to even stay online). The ice machine is broken, so you have to schlep to the front desk for ice. Walking distance to a Wendy's, so that is a plus. Nothing special really about this place, but it's a nice quiet stop when you're tired of the road. read more

Pros: Love the aesthetic and the check in staff were polite. The fee for traveling with my pet made sense and I didn't have any hassle checking in. Cons: The walls are thin and I could hear the family in the neighboring room yelling at their kids. Walls need a good coat of paint and carpets should be replaced. The icing on the cake was when there was a power cut in town. Power was restored in town within the hour, and while there was an outlet that allowed for keeping my phone charged, we were left in the dark for at least two additional hours with no communication from hotel staff or offer of additional assistance. When I asked about a credit, I was told it "wasn't their fault". I wish I had chosen a different place to stay. read more

We chose this remodeled vintage retro "mom & pop" motel to support the local owners. There what appeared to be long term guests 4 doors down from us (objects lining their windowsill). They were smoking (not allowed within 25 ft of building), drinking alcohol profusely and talking/laughing loudly until 3:30 AM! There was another party going on downstairs in the parking lot including non-guests. I asked them politely if they could "tone it down" as we were trying to sleep. They gave no response and looked at me like "go f*ck yourself"! I attempted to call the front office from the motel phone multiple times and received no answer. The next day I was told the phones were inoperable and they were looking to replace the system (unsafe). As 2 women traveling together, we were too afraid to leave our room to go to another motel as we would have to pass these people and felt like hostages of the situation. I called the Silver City police 6 times! All they did was drive through the parking lot. The party would quiet until they passed. After my 6th call, the finally physically intervened with the noisy offenders and they retired to their room and it got quiet. By now it's 4 AM and we're trying to get some rest. It ruined our whole day of vacation on little sleep. I complained to the front desk in the morning in check out. They said they had security until 3 AM. Obviously that person didn't do their job or wasn't on the job. I was able to talk them into refunding 50% of my money after being offered 25%. They said they would ask them to be quiet after 10PM and give them "another chance" before asking them to check out! UNACCEPTABLE!! read more

I love the concept and the price is right. However, there were a few shortcomings, most minor. However, the king bed was really hard on my aging back. Love to see a bit softer mattress. The tissue box was empty. The motel is a bit further from the historic downtown area than I thought it would be. It was quiet -- a huge plus -- and room came equipped with a mini fridge and coffee maker. The flatscreen TV wasn't high definition, which is hard to fathom these days. The continental breakfast in the check-in room was quite adequate and added value to the price. The furnishings are a bit spartan but all in all it was a decent place to stay in Silver City.
