Fantastic food, great quality and service. Great little food cart area as well, indoor and outdoor seating available.

Nope. Nope...This is absolutely not Hawaiian food. This is a…read morecomplete mockery of Hawaiian food. To begin with, the mac was DRY. Yes, dry. Any Islander knows, Hawaiian mac is super buttery and creamy. This stuff was barely more than elbow noodles with mayo. And as for their Kalua pork... holy moly... I hope you enjoy disgusting cabbage water, because they do not flash-steam their cabbage and then set the shredded pork on top. No, they literally cook the cabbage to death like a poor Irishman from 1850, then scoop it into the box along with at least a cup of nasty cabbage water with it. The musubi was forgettable at best, with far too little glaze for the size of the musubi. And they were $4 each ($8, as you must purchase 2), which is bonkers expensive for spam, rice, a little glaze, and nori-wrap. Finally: This is nothing more than plain, overcooked crockpot pork, as that is exactly how it tasted. No island spices could be detected whatsoever in any bite. If they ever added any spices, they were likely washed off in all of that foul crockpot water. Ultimately this was a big pile of shredded pork and cabbage goop in a box with plain rice and worse-than-average mac salad. I promise -- you could make Hawaiian food far better at home as a complete novice, even if it didn't turn out very good. Yuck. So fricken gross.

I order no Mac Salad and get extra Rice instead. 10/10 will continue to come just for this. But today, I had the time to swing by and fortunately he was open, but SOLD OUT. Fortunately, he had a few things left over. So I said yes to a mix plate. Nolan's Hawaii accent is still thick it made me feel like I was back home on the west side for a second (!!!!thank you!!!!) I met some people outside the food stand, a business man from Hawaii and some California people I mistaken were from Hawaii as well, lol. It was an awesome interaction, from the moment I got there I got greeted by strangers waiting for food, to going up to the window and asking "so what? No more nuttin left?" Nolan's response was "Nah I only get mochicko chicken and kalua, you likem?" Haha that was a definite yes! Won't miss out on home food esp if word of mouth was already out there. So I waited a few minutes for my food, and the box was heavy. Haha it felt like when you would eat at your aunty and uncles house and they pack you the party left overs. I opened my plate lunch and I was greeted by a huge portion of chicken, pork rice and Mac salad. And let me tell you, the Mac salad didn't have so much frills like what you would see in a Portland Hawaii food joint. It was sauced, and seasoned. PERFECT! No need for all the extra add ons. As I started eating, let me say that kalua pork was no joke so moist and easy to eat not even close to dried out. The chicken tasted nice and crispy with just enough marinate and fluff. I haven't found this anywhere in Oregon..until here. Yeah sure there's a poke and katsu bar in the shopping center next door... but I take the random food cart in the parking lot any day over something franchised

Love coming to Kiawe, haven't been in a while because on the days I crave it- they're closed…read more Finally was able to come when they was open. They had one special menu and the manapua man noodles and gaugee caught my eye. That's like the perfect combo. But we skipped out on gaugee and got the manapua man noodles. Wish the options for the additions was one fried chicken but instead it was either pork belly or sweet sour chicken. Which isn't usually the kind of combo I would get. Especially if you label it manapua man noodles. The noodles tasted more like fried noodle / fried saimin style since it was cooked on a wok. I do miss the simplicity of a manapua noodle where you dress it with shoyu and sirracha. But these noodles weren't bad. They were super flavorful. Portion was huge! My husband said he could've gone without the pork belly. The pork belly was meh. The noodles tho, ono! I also went with the japolo chicken and kalbi combo, which is my go to. Kalbi is saucy and so flavorful! The chicken is nice and crispy. My only thing is that my plate was swimming in sauce. And when it touches the rice, it's a no for me. Wish had some buffer like cabbage to catch the sauce. Other than that, food is always ono here. Service is also friendly and the place is nice and clean with lots of seating!

Currently listed at $15, it comes with double rice, double mac, a slice of pineapple, pulled pork, beef ribs, and barbecue chicken. The Big Kahuna is probably the best value on the menu. For me personally, it's big enough to split, or to feed me for a whole day. While I loved the Big Kahuna, I'm not really a big fan of pulled pork. The third time I came in, I ordered the Ginger Beef. I liked it, but honestly not as much as any of the three meats that came with the Big Kahuna. The next two times, I ordered the large teriyaki chicken with extra sauce, to go. The flavor is basic in the best way possible. It's not necessarily interesting or innovative, but is exactly what I expect when I think of good teriyaki chicken. It's tender, flavorful, and perfectly charred. The pulled pork tastes like it was cooked in a slow cooker, or via some kind of process that took a very long time. It just falls apart in your mouth. The rice and mac are also plain in the best way possible. Traditional and plain, but still perfectly done. This has become my favorite lunch spot in Hood River. It's hard to not eat here every day.

The meat had a nice smoky char and a sweet-salty glaze (from the smoker outside). Not served piping hot, but still reason temperature, not super-tender either though. One piece had a slightly acrid taste, probably over smoked, but the rest was solid. The rice was standard. The mac salad was chilled, creamy, and well balanced--mayo-based with shreds of carrot, bits of green onion, and a light touch of pepper. Overall, a classic Hawaiian plate lunch. Fast, filling, and good value.

Price is a little high but when it came out I felt ok with it. I like the Mac salad. Not too cute, just good simple Mac salad. The garlic chicken had a really good texture. Crispy and juicy. The only thing I would change is the sauce was kind of wimpy. It was a little sweet and a little garlicky but I wanted a lot more of both. The spicy pork was not my favorite. Spicy pork bulgogi is one of my favorites. The problem I had was it was too dry. So it made the spice a little too forward in the wrong way. I could be talked into coming back.
