I did not get the service that I paid for. Previous visits were wonderful, this time I paid $250 plus $50 tip for a regular keratin treatment which costs $85 and takes 45-60 minutes. The ultimate treatment takes close to 2 hours and costs $250. I think it was a simple error, which would have been fine. We're all human. I should have been charged $85 and $80 for the cut. That's $165, not $250. Instead of owning the mistake, they doubled down that it was the longer treatment. It wasn't. I have $150 left on my gift certificate and am unenthusiastic about using it. I don't believe they set out to rob me, but they denied an error which amounted to the same thing. I don't leave negative reviews as a rule - everyone has off days - but I waited over a week and it is still disturbing me. Sorry, Lulu, but you lost a customer. read more

Just a warning about LuLu's salon in Galveston. I've never left a bad review of a place because I choose to have grace with people, but I just don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. I came in this morning with my sew ins (on my head) to be washed before leaving for a small vacation, and LuLu (the owner) washed it but MAJORLY tangled it and it became extremely matted in the back. Beyond belief really. It was like nothing I'd ever experienced before. She and another guy for almost two hours we're trying to brush it out before she handed me off to the guy for her next client. They let me leave like that and had me pay. I didn't know how bad it was until I got in the car and leaned back and felt this crazy ball of matted hair in the back. These sew ins were $850 and installation was $250, and were supposed to be good for 2-3 years until I had a simple wash by LuLu this morning, and now the unit is completely ruined and I'm left without hair (super short). I was diagnosed with brain cancer last year and lost all my hair, and finally in January I was able to have sew ins. Now these are ruined and I now have to wear my wig from when I first got cancer. After another salon (major shout out to the wonderful ladies at Studio 3!!) took out my sew ins and did the best they could to style my still very short hair, I went back to LuLus figuring they would understand the damage they did and emotional expense (plus financial expense from this morning and then another salons work to fix part of the first salons mistake) that they would be willing to refund. I spoke to LuLu the owner and she said she never gives refunds only store credit, denied any fault they had denied tangling my hair, said my hair was already matted when I came in (which it was DEFINITELY not, I would've known and she would've said something upon touching my hair before washing) and that she spent two hours trying to "help" me. She also proceeding to pointing out cheapness in my sew ins and making other rude remarks. I eventually cried because of how rude she was being and how emotional my situation is, and she eventually gave me most of the money back. Very upsetting, I've heard this isn't the first time, please be aware that if you have extensions they may ruin them, even the owner herself who deals with extensions and wigs all the time. First the good news, the haircuts we got were great and we loved the Arvida hair products that the salon uses. Now the bad news, we weren't offered gel for our mani-pedis and only saw a small selection of nail polish so since this was a gift rolled with it. The experience so far was positive although my nail tech was having trouble seeing and glopping on the polish. I wasn't going to complain. Though as it turned out, even 30 minutes on a timer wasn't enough for my toenails to dry Then checking out, the person in the front made a mistake charging us. My mother asked her to void the first charge and make one brand new correct charge and she says, "No this is how we do it." Then we leave for Pho20 and half way thru lunch my ring finger nail chips. Also they call to tell us they miss charged us again and could they charge us remotely! At this point we didn't trust them at all so we said no we'd come back and since we paid $70 for a nail polish mani-pedi I wanted my nail fixed. Now keep in mind we tipped all these people 20%. They called my Dad at home to ask him if they could charge the card while we were eating lunch and hadn't made it back yet! Terrible customer service here, unreal. So we go back, get a corrected bill, retip everyone AND fix the chip on my nail and look at it now. The only thing I've done is sweep and use an iPad. This place isn't the best. Only the haircuts are worth the money. And check your bill. read more

Horrible experience. The stylists are lacking in experience and the manager that I dealt with was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I have been to salons across the country, and I should have known better when I saw mixed reviews. I spent over $200 here, only to be forced to pay an additional $250 to a completely different salon to repair the near-irreparable damage; it will take me months to get my hair back to a semi-attractive state. Please spare yourself the misery and money and do not go here. I desperately wish I had listened to the other unhappy reviewers. I have never been through such a horrid experience and I wish I could erase it from my mind! Hair service providers should not cause this kind of upset. I'm shocked LuLu's is still in business with this type of poor customer service and stylists who are nearly inept. This was my first time at Lulu's and my last. I wanted to go darker and I came out blonder than when I went in. It wasn't worth the money I spent there. I also left with multiple dark spots from where she put too much color and lighter spots where she put too much bleach. My back was soaked from when she washed my hair and she got water in my eye. I went here to get my hair done for a wedding I was in; there were 4 of use with appointments at 2:00. All I wanted was a wash and blow out. We arrived right at our appointment time and 3 of us were taken right away. I, however, was left sitting in the waiting area until about 2:20 when I was approached by a woman who didn't seem like she knew who she was looking for or what she was supposed to be doing. She took me to the back and washed my hair. She was actually very friendly and we had a nice chat while she washed my hair. When she was finished, she put my wet hair in a clip and took me back to the waiting area and said my stylist would be with me shortly. I was a little put off by the fact that I was sitting in the waiting area with wet hair and a towel around my shoulders...it was honestly a little embarrassing. Around 2:40 another woman came by and had no clue what I was there for and said she would "get me started on blow drying my hair". At this point I wasn't sure how many people were going to be doing my hair and I really just felt like leaving and doing my hair myself. I guess because all I wanted was a blow out she decided to finish the job, but it was awkward the entire time. When we all left, the bride was crying because her hair looked nothing like the trial run, and the mother of the bride was telling me about how her stylist was getting an attitude about how she wanted her hair. This is my third time coming to Lulu's. Each time they are extremely professional and informative. The last two times was for my own wedding. Had my updo done and nails and makeup. The Aveda products are fantastic and they use them well. My maid of honor purchased the bridal package the morning of our wedding with mimosas and cheeses. It was a great compliment to all of girls getting our hair done. They were extremely accommodating to all us girls taking over the salon and helped de-stress an anxious bride. This time, I was the matron of honor getting my updo done for a family wedding. My stylist was friendly and did an excellent job recreating the style I chose from a picture on my phone. She was a little new, as she was asking for tips from the stylist next to her. But she asked and that was better than being unsure and winging it. They are a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Sadly I live in Houston so coming to Lulus all the time is not exactly easy, but when I do and I need my hair did, I'm coming back. read more

Alert: if you are fairly low maintenance and only require a quick wash-and-cut, make sure you are NOT scheduled with the proprietor, Lulu unless you have a lot of spare cash you're eager to spend. I want to make it clear that I don't have a regular stylist that I am particularly attached to; I don't mind who cuts my hair, I didn't request to have the owner do my haircut, and I will literally schedule with whomever the person on the phone tells me is available. Anyway as I discovered to my horror today, they will charge you DOUBLE the regular rate for services rendered, in my case a wash + a basic, no frills ten minute trim simply to remove split ends. I've visited Lulus several times this past year, and I normally pay around $35 for this ~ today I was billed $70! I initially thought there was some mistake. Alas no, when I questioned it I was curtly & condescendingly informed that yes, the business owner's prices are significantly more inflated than the rest of the stylists, and if I had "financial issues" I should have asked about "financing" at the time of booking. I am not a glamour girl and I don't purchase expensive beauty products or treatments, including haircuts. For me, even $35 is pushing it, considering the amount of hair I actually get cut and the simplicity of my request. I don't ask for any kind of styling, just 1cm of the ends of my hair to be trimmed. This is NOT a high end job and requires minimal skill from the stylists. A barber trimming a man's hair for $15 probably takes more time & precision than it does to cut mine - I am a very undemanding, easy client. But.. I understand that the female beauty industry is what it is in society, and (annoyingly to someone like me) products/services cost a lot more than they do for men, so I suck it up and pay $35-40 every couple of months. But $70!! What??!! For exactly the same haircut? The end result was precisely the same as when one of her underlings performs the task. There was literally no difference. Basically, double the price for the same service. As for enquiring about "financing" when making an appointment - come on, guys. As a repeat customer having the same haircut as always, I should not have to preemptively ask if I needed to take a loan out of the bank to have the privilege of the owner attending to my hair. To me this is a lousy, disingenuous business ethic; it is dishonest, underhand and feels almost like stealing. Yes they have a brochure in their store with a price list - but when I scheduled my appointment they certainly should have told me in no uncertain terms AT THAT TIME, that I would be paying double what I usually pay. They actually do have records of customer's previous appointments, who the stylist was and how much it cost. (They pulled my chart up in the store today.) So: they knew how much I usually pay, and they knew very well I was a repeat customer who always has the same haircut. If I was using this salon for the 1st time, or if I was scheduling a different cut/style/treatment, it would of course be my responsibility to enquire as to their pricing. If the staff had done their jobs properly, been honest and forthright with me & making sure I was aware the owner charges double to cut people's hair... I would have scheduled with someone else, obviously! This left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The staff eventually offered me a begrudging apology for not telling me beforehand but it's too little too late. I'm sure many women out there regularly fork out hundreds of $$ for their expensive beauty treatments so wouldn't even think twice about handing over $70... but not all us ladies are like that. It is the principle of the matter as well as the cost. Anyway, this salon is otherwise very nice, and is right next to a huge busy hotel which likely provides them with many tourist clients, and so my negative review will have zero impact I'm quite sure of that. Businesses that don't have to rely on repeat customers because they have a transient clientele, are often not as motivated to provide exemplary service as those who operate in areas with a static customer base. But if just one person reading is anything like me, they might be grateful for the heads up. Forewarned is forearmed: not all of us has money to throw around frivolously on what after all, amounted to a very basic quick haircut. I didn't even ask them to blow dry my hair! They have a nerve taking so much money from a customer for such a quick easy haircut. They have lost a customer and I will be sure to warn others to be careful if they are considering scheduling at Lulus. I will certainly go somewhere else next time, I absolutely hate that folks are being taken advantage of by unscrupulous business owners with questionable integrity. Well, I just had a lovely conversation with the owner of LuLu's the Salon & Spa (NOT). I called to let them know that my son visited the salon to get his hair done(dreads). He planned his trip and took off work to get it done. He came home and looked horrible. I asked him if he said anything to the girl who did it, and he said yes but he was scared to let her do anymore to it. He was afraid she would make to worse. So we worked for 3 hours getting the dreads out and he went by today to talk to them and ask for some kind of refund. Half of the cost would make him feel a little better. But he got told they would do his hair again but no refund. I understand this, however he was not asking for a full refund for their time, he would just like a little back since it was not done correctly. First , the hair should be sectioned, then done evenly. This did not happen. She would also randomly cut his hair that did not go into a Dread. I know you don't do that! I have spent over $200 trying to get the mess fixed from what ever they thought they were doing. He will never go there to get Dreads again ever. Moral is we will never be going to LuLu's Salon ever! read more

I cried. The haircut is ok but the stylist was so rude I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The front staff was rude and she was twenty minutes late because she had to get drinks for the vending machine. I just moved to the area and it was the first time I had money or time to spend on me. She made me feel so bad just because I haven't had a haircut in a couple months. It killed me to leave her a tip but I did. Oh and then without even asking or getting my opinion she tired putting product on my bill. After she was done she wished she took before and after pictures. Really!? I moved to the Bay area in January and had a very hard time finding a stylist who could work with my hair - texturizing, cut and color. My hair is thick and requires more texturizing than cutting, and I am very particular about my color. I had previously tried two other stylists in the Houston area and was very disappointed in the cost and quality. I am so impressed with Denise. She is a true artist. She listened to my needs and concerns, we talked through her approach and technique before she began working on my hair. Of course I was apprehensive, given my previous experience, but my concerns were allayed quickly as I watched her begin working on my hair. Denise is a perfectionist and takes her time styling my hair and measuring the cut, section by section. When I returned after my first cut, I did not have to remind her about the nuances of working with my hair. It was as if she had just styled my hair the day before.
