I buy a lot of firewood. I always look for the kiln dried hardwood. However I cannot tell you how many bags of firewood turn out to be next to impossible to light and never burn fully. When I tried Lumberjacks, I went to their Lake in the Hills site and got a small amount of wood. No reason to spend money if the wood sucks. I have to say, that wood consistently burned hot was easy to light and burned to ash. I used their wood to burn off the crappy wood I had accumulated. I highly recommend them. Only Con: they only take checks or cash, at least at the LITH location. I would encourage Lumberjacks to invest in Square or Paypal and step into the 21st century. read more

These guys do it right...! As a new customer I called with a few questions, which they happily and politely answered. I called back the next day to schedule delivery of mixed hardwood, and was able to schedule delivery for later that afternoon. Only place I'll buy firewood from and I live well out of their delivery area. I pick up from the Woodstock location, you can see the kilns running all the time. The wood is dry and clean. You want oak, you get only oak. You want hickory, you get only hickory. Meaning they don't mix in cheaper wood when you order high end hard wood. Pricey, yeah, but you get what you pay for. The wood arrived on time and left at driveway as expected. The wood was dry and seemed Kiln dried which is fine, not certain that it was. I ordered mostly hickory with some hard woods and it was.. plenty of wood, filled my 4 x 8 wood rack completely, actually higher than 4 ft by a few extra inches . The wood wasn't thick cut which I like therefore the reason I docked one star. I didn't request thick cut though and not certain they would have obliged but I mean by that is imagine a 13-15 inch diameter cut of wood, I would prefer 4 pieces from that rather than 6-8. We've been getting our firewood from Lumberjacks for almost 20 years. Due to the pandemic's stay at home order, we've been burning in our fire pit every night it's not raining! This wood starts fast and burns easy. If we call for a last minute delivery they might not be able to stack it for us, but they're alway super nice and very professional. We have never had anything but excellent customer service. They may be more expensive, but you get what you pay for! It's worth every penny. read more

Having recently acquired a chiminea for our patio via Craigslist, I've been feverishly searching for the best deals for the best quality wood for burning, that is available for pickup. A lot of firewood dealers are delivery only, and being the middle unit of our block of townhouses, I prefer to pick up what I can carry comfortably around to the back. Without naming names, I've tried them all; big box brand, the nursery that sells Christmas trees and hardwood, gas station and grocery store wood. And while all these other businesses are closer to me, and have probably more accessible hours aka open on the weekends, a recent half day at work led me to Lumberjacks. I've known of Lumberjacks from seeing one of their three locations near the Lake in the Hills airport where the proudly displayed sign states "got mulch?" I gave them a call and unfortunately, the Lake in the Hills location DOES NOT SELL FIREWOOD, but they do sell firewood at the Woodstock location. So after leaving work in Geneva and taking a nice leisurely drive up Route 47, I found myself standing next to a rack of wood and ringing the buzzer to the office. With no answer I decided to let myself in. If you are deathly afraid of ninja feline companions, do not do like me. I nearly sharted when I opened the door and lo and behold, a cat was staring me in the face, at eye level, a mere 36 inches away from me. I backed slowly out of the office and waited patiently outside until one of the employees came out. I told her that I called and asked about some 50 lb bagged hardwood for sale(at $10 each). Unfortunately they didn't have any bagged wood left, but measured out the amount that would have went into the bag, twice since I wanted two bags, and then threw in some more wood on top of that since I wasn't paying the amount that included the bag. Have I confused you yet? Let's just say the hundred pounds of wood filled half of my trunk for $20. Compared to what I've been paying for wood, this seemed wrong, yet oh so right. Like stealing candy from a baby's baby! So the final test was to bring it on home and burn it up. And burn it did, readily, and without the help of tinder. It was dry enough to light up on it's own, and did so in 10 degree weather. 3 logs burned well enough to provide me with 90 minutes worth of heat in the snow. I have plenty of wood left for Jim Morrison. And when the weather warms back up to like 40, I'm going back to fill my trunk completely and be stocked up for the year of fires to come.
