I had been looking forward to this appt since booking it a couple weeks prior. After spending over an hour completing the electronic intake at home, Ivy (acupuncturist) followed up with a verbal intake where she specifically wanted me to bring up the worst early trauma I had experienced. Once all these emotions were brought up, she asked me to control my thought and breathe... as if this was the correct way to approach PTSD? Shortly after, she had me remove my shirt, lay prone on the massage table, put some needles in my back, rang her singing bowls, and then walked out. Because of the extremely loud demolition next door, I asked if it were possible to play some music. She kindly brought a little stereo next to me but it still didn't overpower the sound of jack hammers right outside. Just when I felt like I was about to relax, she removed the needles and concluded our session. This was only 40 minutes into the 1:15 minute session advertised and paid for. 20 minutes psych eval + 20 minutes of needling. At $200 a session -- I would've expected being able to lay/ relax a bit longer. Instead of her being understanding, completing the session, or crediting me for the time cut short, she insisted this is the way she operates then wanted to know if I would leave any gratuity. I'd recommend almost any other acupuncturist over this Ivy Luminar. The community acupuncture places throughout the Bay Area are WAY more welcoming, cost effective (sliding scale as low as $15 in some places), and they'll let you relax for more then a few minutes. Finally, she never brought up covid. Didn't ask me anything about it. Didn't take my temperature. She didn't even clean or sanitize her hands, despite using her phone while she was asking me very personal questions. read more

I was 41 weeks pregnant and I was at risk of being required to transfer from my midwives' care (at a birth center) to the hospital if baby didn't arrive before 42 weeks. So I was trying every natural induction method I could think of.
