While my appointment went well, the standard insurance paper work for a cortisone shot (the most common intervention other than pain meds) was rejected, and no one from the office followed up. There were no follow up notes after my appointment for next steps. My primary seemed very surprised that this routine procedure was denied which makes me suspect that they didn't do the minimal paperwork required. When you call 'the office', you reach someone at the main switchboard who presumably passes on a message which may or may not be returned. In my case, it was not even though I requested that they resubmit the paperwork. Keep in mind that many many people reaching out to a pain management doctor are in excruciating, debilitating pain. When I finally went in, I was barely able to walk and had to lie down during the appointment due to the extreme pain. Currently, I'm repeatedly leaving messages at the switchboard attempting to try to get my cortisone shot months after all medical staff I met with agreed that it was necessary. If you are in an acute, debilitating situation with your pain, I'd recommend you seek someone who runs a more responsive office.

We were scheduled to have a procedure completed and a payment was collected. On February 17, we had a change of heart and cancelled said procedure. I was clearly told that the refund would be processed, yet it is now June and I still have not received the money or a clear explanation for the delay. Over the past several months, communication has been inconsistent and unprofessional. I have had to repeatedly follow up for updates, only to receive vague responses or no resolution at all. A medical clinic should operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability, especially when handling patients' finances. While the staff may have initially appeared helpful, failing to honor a promised refund for this long is unacceptable. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this clinic to carefully review financial policies and documentation before making payments. As far as communication, I am very disappointed with the level of communication and professionalism from this clinic. Since February, I have called on seven different occasions and left multiple voicemails requesting a call back from the manager regarding my unresolved refund issue. When I called the office to ask what happened, the front desk staff, told me the appointments were cancelled. I explained that I never received any call, message, or notification, and I asked for the rescheduled date and time. Instead of helping, she repeatedly told me to "check my voicemail." I told her I don't have any missed voicemails, and she responded that she wasn't going to argue with me and hung up. I called back to try again, and she repeated the same response and hung up a second time. This was extremely frustrating and unacceptable. Patients deserve clear communication and basic courtesy--especially when appointments are cancelled without notice.

I am rarely able to reach a human when I call them even during office hours. I have called five times in last few days during office hours and I am just on hold for 15 minutes listening to music and then it just hangs up on me, with no way to even leave a message. I have resorted to thinking I am going to have to actually drive there and physically go into the office to actually reach someone, but I do not have time to do this. When I was able to leave a message, they would repeatedly call me back on a really old number that goes to someone else after I corrected it 4 different times with the answering service and the office and told them my correct number, they still continue to call me on the wrong number. The first day I walked into the office in level 9 pain, the woman at the desk literally did not even look up at me or say hi. I just stood there looking at her right in front of her for a few minutes and then asked her if she could help me. She seemed totally annoyed that I was there and she had to deal with me. Not a great first impression when you walk in with a lot of pain. Thankfully the doctor and the PA were nice. My first apt was over $800 and was very quick with the doctor and my insurance only paid half. It seems impossible to get accurate insurance info, they tell me something has been approved, I call my insurance, they said it has not been approved. I am terrified to get anything else done here because of how expensive their fees are and not knowing what kind of bill I will get and can't get any clear pricing ahead of time for treatments. There is another pain doctor in San Rafael that does the same cutting edge treatments but is MUCH less expensive and very clear with treatment costs. The same first office visit with him was $60 copay, here it was $800 but both doctors are in network for me and same type of visit. I don't understand how the pricing can be so different for a first visit or for the same exact treatments. Their communication system and not being able to ever talk to the doctor unless you have a very expensive meeting with him months away just does not work for me. When you are in pain having to wait many months for an apt or weeks of back and forth calls to reach anyone feels unbearable. I tried to stick it out but the communication issues and lack of clear info is just causing me so much stress. I think this doctor is really good at what he does, and I think he offers the best cutting edge treatments, but I just could not handle the way the office/ finances/ and communication is done here. I did not feel taken care of at all and every time I need to call them it turns into such a long very stressful ordeal with so many back and forth messages with physician assistants because they are never available when I try to call and there is no way to email them, and they continue to call me at an old number. And most of the time there is no way to even leave a message. I have spent hours trying to reach someone at this office only to be on hold and then disconnected. I ask them to call me back to confirm they got my message to cancel an apt and they do not call back. So it is just weeks of messages back and forth unable to actually reach them and no way to talk to the doctor if you have any questions. This is not good for people who are in chronic pain. So much of this could be eliminated if they just had email. Such poor management. Really frustrating experience as a patient in pain to go through. The opposite of a smooth experience. It's too bad because I do think they do offer really helpful treatments for patients in pain, but I have given up on this place.

I went to seemingly every kind of doctor, including Stanford Pain Clinic, but still the pain kept coming back and ruined my quality of life. Finally I found Dr. Perry and went to see him. He examined me and we talked for a long time. I was impressed by how much he cared and listened. Dr. Perry gave me some medication that immediately got the pain under control. In subsequent visits, he monitored my progress and suggested various ways to avoid aggravating my condition. After a while, I was able to go on a small dose of a maintenance medication, and live my life generally pain-free. I am so grateful to Dr. Perry for showing me a way out of the terrible pain I used to suffer from every day. From time to time Dr. Perry has seminars about pain control. These are really useful.
