I love Lauren! She is both incredibly talented and reasonably priced. I always have great conversation with her during my visits, and I feel she really listens to me and understands what I want. She is the only person I've ever met who cuts my bangs to my liking, and I'm so grateful I found her. She is helping my reach my blonde goals without damaging my hair or making me go broke. I've been to her a few times now, and I don't intend on seeing anyone else! Anyone looking for a cute cut or gorgeous highlights, try Lauren out. She is my fave.

I got my hair done by Lauren with a very specific color in mind (chunky 2000s high lights), i was very clear about how if that was unachievable I had an easier second option. She seemed very confident in the chunky highlights, so we proceeded. She didn't do any chunks except for the money pieces I pulled out before the session, and turned my hair literally grey. I never said I wanted cool toned, and the photos were very warm toned that I showed her. I called her the next day asking if she could somehow fix my hair (I suggested a clarifying shampoo), and she sounded very insulted on the phone that I didn't like it, and didn't offer anyway to fix it. I called the salon a week later to tell them about my experience, and I left a voicemail with no call back. As someone in the cosmetology industry, I understood things don't always come out as the photos, but my hair was unrecognizable to what I wanted, and the way this was handled after I was unsatisfied was very wrong. I ended up having to get it fixed at a beauty school, and it looks 10x better.

I'd been to Kayla a few times to get haircuts in the past year and was always happy with the results. Both Kayla and Jill are very pleasant and chatty, and their salon is really fun. I also like that they own it, and I like the idea of supporting their small business. I was excited to get my hair colored for the first time ever and showed Kayla a photo of what I wanted. She was enthusiastic and confident, assuring me that we wouldn't even need to dye my base color or bleach/lighten all my hair, and we scheduled a time to get it done in the evening so I wouldn't have to miss work. When I showed up, she said we'd have to lighten some of my hair so that the colors would show up better. Sure, you're the expert, let's do it. After that was done, she applied the colors, and we went from there. Since it was an evening appointment, I couldn't really see the colors I wanted based on the photo I brought for inspiration. She said the light in the salon was flourescent and weird and that I'd be able to see the colors in the daylight. In my mirrors at home and in the daylight the next day, my hair looked blonde with orange streaks in the front. In the back, I couldn't see any mauve/purple at all. It just looked lighter. Disappointed, I called the next day to see if she'd be able to take a look and maybe take a second run at it. I was thrilled when they could fit me just two days later. When I arrived, she said that it looked like the colors didn't stick to my hair since some of it had been lightened immediately prior. Jill and Kayla consulted together on the colors they mixed up (different from the original colors Kayla put in), and Kayla painted what seemed like my entire head. I felt excited to finally be getting the look I'd been wanting, but when it was finished, my hair still looked blonde with a slightly gray tinge. I was in a hurry, but I did mention this to Kayla, who said "well it's because your hair is so light" - okay, but you lightened my hair two days before. You can barely see any colors, and it still looks nothing like the photo. A few hours later, after talking with multiple colleagues and showing them the photo of the style and colors that I wanted, everyone said I should call and ask for a refund, because it looked nothing like the photo, even after two attempts. I did call, and Kayla let me know that she was sorry I wasn't satisfied, but that their policy is that they don't do cash refunds. She pressed that she hadn't damaged my hair (true), and that she felt she did a good job. When I mentioned that it looked nothing like the photo we continuously consulted, she said that it was impossible to get that look without dying my base color darker. Now, this goes against what she told me originally when I made the appointment to have this procedure done. The only reason I proceeded to have this done is because I was assured that I wouldn't have to maintain a different color base hair. After going around in circles, with both of us trying desperately to remain pleasant and civil to each other, she finally offered to dye my base color darker and only charge me for the product that would be used, put darker colors in so they'd show up, OR issue a 20% refund. I resisted the urge to mention that I don't even have 20% of the color that I was expecting, and instead said that I didn't really have any interested in further damaging my hair by dying it for a THIRD time, but that I'd think about it. After sleeping on it, I called back the next morning and said I'd be willing to get the darker colors put in so I'd at least have something noticeable to show (seriously, you cannot even tell by looking at my hair that anything had been done to it other than it's lighter). Kayla was with a client and said she'd call me back later that day. I said that was fine, and mentioned I'd be at work (gave her my work number) until 5. No phone call that day, which was a Friday. I thought she might call on Monday, but again, nothing. I finally gave up and called the salon again on Tuesday afternoon, but Kayla had gone home for the day. Wednesday morning, I woke up to an email notifying me that my next appointment had been canceled. When I got to work, I found that Kayla had left me a voicemail overnight saying she had thought about it and would issue the entire refund. I guess overall I'm pleased with this outcome, but not the route taken to get there, which was five days of anxiously awaiting this resolution. I'm pleased they did the right thing ultimately, but it felt really unprofessional to drag this out. I guess I would say that Luminous is really great if you're happy with the job they do. Every haircut I've had has been great. For haircuts, 5 stars. For color service, 1 or 2.

Paige at Luminous is AMAZING! I'm new to Corvallis and we all know that finding a new stylist, after leaving a fabulous one I've seen forever, can be scary. I've got red hair and she is an absolute pro at enhancing my color in a very natural looking way. We even came up with a plan to embrace my pesky grays, rather than covering them (channeling my inner Stacy London!) To top it off, she does a beautiful beachy/curly style that makes me feel like a million bucks when I leave the salon. And speaking of the salon...it's adorable! Bright, airy, warm, and they've always got a stellar playlist going on. I would 100% recommend Paige at Luminous!

Dang, those reviews are killer, ladies. I feel fortunate that I did not get my hair cut by Bessie…read morethen. But these reviews explain why her hair cuts are cheaper than the other stylists at this salon. My coworker got back from her break with freaking beautiful hair. I've been looking for a good stylist in Corvallis, so as soon as I saw her "do" I made sure to find out whose hands had done that magic. She directed me to Jen Schaefer at Monroe Avenue Salon. I heard it was pretty pricey, but I thought I should give it a shot. I got layers and a cut from Jen, who was a complete doll. She was super personable and did a great job with my hair. The only issue is that I don't think I communicated what I wanted very well. I wanted a trim and a slight cut, but she ended up chopping off about 7 inches (Don't worry, I had it to spare. My hair is still shoulder length after the cut). I wasn't so sure about it after I left, but now that it's been a few days, I can tell that Jen really knew what she was doing and I'm very happy with the changes. She's pretty new in town ladies, let's give her some business because she deserves it!

I went in to get my hair colored to my natural root color (light ash blonde) after almost a year of…read moregrow-out. Bessie swindled me into an Olaplex treatment without telling me it would cost extra, which I absolutely didn't need after a year of grow out. She then dyed my hair literally coffee brown, (I have bright blonde hair) which ended up washing out red. I'm livid about the whole experience because my hair is trashed from multiple color corrections now, and the most uneven "thinning" cut I've ever had in my life. Bessie complains about her significant other and takes text breaks constantly. She barely communicates to her clients outside of talking about her own negative BS. She's cold and fake, and warms up when she responds to reviews on yelp but that's about it. I'm shocked she's still in business, do not go to this salon.
