i appreciate that it is trying to be a 3rd space, we are missing those sorely these days. there is self serve coffee which probably should cost more as well as free wifi. a majority of the staff are tending to the cats which is good, as i think cats could easily get overwhelmed with careless patrons. they also host local artists which is nice and fun. i don't have any pictures now but i am sure to visit again soon. it feels like there is more that could be done with the space but im not exactly sure what. read more

I've been following the Luna Cat Collective on Instagram for a while now and my friend keeps sending me their posts with the super cute adoptable kitcats here! It's a Taiwanese Cat Cafe located in Ellicott City, MD along Baltimore National Pike. Blending American and Asian cultures. Fun fact I learned from Luna Cat Collective's website, (https://www.lunacatcollective.com/) Taipei, Taiwan is where the first cat cafe was ever opened. The story behind how the cat cafe started is very lovely and touching. (https://www.lunacatcollective.com/story-and-mission) After losing her mom, Ruth's partner Brendan suggested she adopt a cat to help with her grief. Both are co-owners of Luna Cat Collective. Ruth used the inheritance her late mother left her to pursue her passion of creating a space where others "could feel comfortable being themselves" by building a "third safe space" and community. Her mom told her, "Do what makes you happy." Ruth wanted to "add value to the world by helping cats and people heal together in a calm and welcoming environment that also provided the opportunity for cats to find their forever homes." I'm in love with their mission to provide healing as cats are definitely magical! My friend and I were grabbing lunch one weekend and close by, so we decided to venture into the cat cafe. we had no problem doing a walk-in booking session :D Ruth was super helpful in explaining the process and her kindness shines through. Luna Cat Collective provides a very inviting, well organized, safe and chill atmosphere. The cats are very well cared for and have lots of room to play, eat, and do cat things. They have a variety of drinks, pastries, and snacks for sale, along with art created by different artists and other merchandise. I really liked the music they played as it brought me back to my own roots. It was the same music I listened to growing up! There are even events planned that help bring people and cats together such as kitty yoga, kitty book club, Anime Nights, sound bath, cat meditation, kitty happy hour and more! With the booked 'Cat Lounge' appointment time you're allowed unlimited Taiwanese teas and coffees. You can even book a 'Kitty Bodega Pass' to use the clean and plentiful space to do some computer work. What a sweet deal. We got to choose between grippy socks or slippers to wear into the cat room. My friend and I both chose grippy socks. There are clean bathrooms and little cubbies under seating to take off your shoes and store them. After switching our footwear, we checked out the drink area and then made our way to the cat lounge. Afterwards, there is a basket by the cubbies to return worn socks and slippers. If you want to stay longer you can check in at the front to extend your cat time. ***Make sure you check out the House Rules posted on the wall.*** Please be respectful to the cats. I really liked the little introduction pics posted of the cats along with their gender, age, and spiciness levels. This was informative! There is also a wall of all the cats that have been adopted! I'm happy to know this collection of pictures will only grow with more cats finding their people. After losing my father earlier this year and then recently also losing my dearest cat boy, I'm still trying to process my own grief. Such a great addition to Howard County. When I first stepped inside, Ruth (I think she's the owner) was super welcoming, and I love her energy. It was my first time visiting, and definitely not my last. The space is huge, and you can bring food from outside, which is lovely. They also sell snacks and drinks. Your ticket includes unlimited coffee, but you do have to make it yourself. When we arrived, I believe it was the cats' nap time because I didn't see many of them at first. After a while, they started coming out. The number of cats is good, but it could be better if they had one or two more. Luna was so sweet, and I believe she's new to the space. We stayed for 30 minutes, but you can stay and chill longer than that. There are also other things to do in the room while playing with the cats. They offer a lot of events throughout the month. I suggest checking out their Instagram for more information and upcoming events. Highly recommend this place if you're looking to do something different with your friends and family. I just want to preface this that a cat café isn't a normal coffee shop. There is obviously a lot of maintenance and upkeep cost to be regulatory compliant. So you are paying for the experience. That being said...this cat café is huge with a separate section just for grabbing a bite or chilling and a whole other room with the cats. Because of this separation those who are mildly allergic or just want to do some distant cat watching can come along. The entire café has a warm and welcoming atmosphere (see the pics). The café section: Loads of natural light from the big windows. I love the anime décor and the epoxy tables. They have a nice selection of tea and coffee that you can purchase for a flat rate. I was impressed that they have loose leaf tea from Taiwan. The cat room: Prior to entering you are given either slippers or socks. And you are asked to wash your hands. Upon entering I really didn't smell any hint of cat odor despite there being more than 10 cats in the room. They do have a separate litter area. There are manga in the corner and spaces to just relax with cats. It wasn't too busy when I went so I had plenty of opportunities to get to know each of the cats. What they support: All of their cats are from shelters and you can choose to adopt one (see pic with the wall of those who have found new homes). They also feature local artists' work that you can purchase too from as little as $5 bookmarks. They also have theme nights like - anime watching nights or origami night. They also accommodate group gatherings, which you can book in advance. Pricing: They have tiered pricing depending on the duration and experience you want with the cats. I appreciate that if you just want to enjoy the vibe, get some work done in the café (non-cat) portion, you can do so for free. Parking: The front of the café faces the street but you can park either in the parking lot just across the street or in the shopping plaza back the café. Conclusion: Cleanliness is definitely a top priority for this business and I love their mission. This is a unique spot in Howard county and hope to see more of these pop up in the DMV! read more

I finally checked out Luna Cat Collective today and did some coworking there while enjoying the cutest and most relaxing setting. I enjoyed their free WiFi and $5 unlimited coffee and tea. The coffee was good and there was a good variety of teas. I popped into see the cats while I had a quick 5 min break between meetings. I can't wait to come back for one of their events! read more

I need more cat cafés in my life! Luna Cat Collective is a solid option, and I can't wait to visit them again! Here is the number one element of this location that I cannot stress enough: NO CAT SMELL! Some places have a bit of a cat odor, which I'm kind of okay with. You have many cats? You have many cat smells. It goes with the territory. But, not so at Luna. I think this might be mainly due to them being closed every Sunday for a deep clean. That would be my guess. Whatever their secret, it didn't "reek of cat p*ss" when we went into visit the little furbabies. They only had seven available when we were there, which wasn't many. That was my biggest disappointment, since with the number of patrons it meant that no one really got a ton of quality time with any one cat. But, we still got some pets in here and there. I liked the vibe here. They cater to an anime crowd, it seems, which is totally cool. Not my scene for the most part, but I dig the aesthetics and I could do anything while spending time with the cats! It was very clean there, and they adhere to strict rules about washing hands and wearing either foot "masks" or slippers. It looked it was run by kids, but they were very professional and know what they are doing, so don't underestimate them! I might wait until I know they have more felines floating around before I return, but I could see myself there again soon. read more

I've been able to visit Luna Cat Collective several times since they've opened. The space is gorgeous, clean, and super cozy. The cats always look very happy and relaxed with separate rooms for them to escape to if they need, and the staff seem genuinely happy to be there. The owners are both extremely friendly and super helpful. I have been able to visit on opening day, along with catch up coffee chats with friends, and co-working days from when I'm working from home. My experience there has mostly been during the day time to late afternoon during the week when it's not as busy. Each time I've gone, I've had lots of time with all the cats, been able to meet them all and get to play with them and know their personalities. Each visit time includes unlimited cafe time with unlimited self-serve free coffee and tea. The coffee and tea are easy to figure out and delicious. The cafe also features bread from a local bakery and coffee from Vigilante. There's also a lot of art from local artists that are available for purchase. Overall, I personally love the ambiance of the cafe. The music is calming, the vibes are chill, and it feels so cozy, like stepping into a friend's house. read more

I have both volunteered at and visited many cat cafes all around the world. We were excited to visit here despite the expensive cost of entry of $30 per person. This is the most I have ever spent to visit a cat cafe and we have been to dozens. For the cost of entry I was hoping for a WONDERFUL experience but the experience was sub par. The place was way oversold with about 30 people in the cat room and a small number of cats... mayby 10?. As such, patrons were either vying for the cats' attention or not able to get the cats' attention. A couple of the cats were being pinned in the corner by a group of several kids that were there for a birthday party and not being monitored. There was a do it yourself coffeee/ tea station. I attempted to make an herbal tea but there were not clear instructions provided. There were canisters of loose tea but I had no idea how much to use. There was a honey stick that I couldn't open. I was looking for a scissor to cut the top but when I couldn't find one and asked how to open it I was told to just gnaw it open with my teeth. I felt badly for the cats and also felt that this was a waste of $60. Even though we paid for 45 minutes we left after about 20. I didn't want to add to the cats' trauma as they were already over stimulated. read more

A wonderful cat cafe. Much larger than Affogato in Canton, it had a much more laid back vibe. All the cats are adults, not kittens, so they are more chill. The cats were amazingly friendly and all of them are adoptable. I could see going here to co-work or read with the kitties. Also the complimentary tea and coffee were high quality, the oolong was especially delicious. read more

Wayyyyyyy too many people in the cat area with little supervision. Most of the cats hid and looked anxious. There had to be 25+ people with the cats and children/adults messing with the cats as they tried to eat or walk away. Left after 5 minutes of being there because we felt bad for the cats. read more
