Chimichanga with Spanish rice
Joey M.

Luna Cocina distinguishes itself less through culinary ambition than through atmosphere, capturing the breezy sophistication and relaxed charm associated with Baja California dining. Its outdoor patio and second-floor balcony create an airy, inviting setting well suited for lingering evening meals, while the menu offers familiar Tex-Mex fare executed with consistency and broad appeal rather than reinvention. The standout is the house salsa, vibrant, freshly prepared, and layered with a subtle smokiness that brings an unexpected depth of flavor, serving as a small but memorable reflection of the restaurant's attention to detail.

Amazing ambiance and drinks! We came on a Monday, and we were sat immediately at a table upstairs on the rooftop. This was such a vibe and an amazing view! The hostess stand is outside in front, so we didn't see the inside of the restaurant, but the rooftop upstairs was so cool. There were tons of tables, a bar, and a great view. When it got dark, they brought out little lamps for each table to add to the awesome ambiance. For drinks, I got the house margarita which the waitress said already came skinny. It was so good that I got two. Chips and salsa were free and they were average. I got the chicken quesadilla, and again, just average. So were the chicken tacos... wish more meat was on these. But the service was great and she did a really good job checking on us throughout the night. I will be back for the ambiance and drinks for sure.

Birria Tacos

I was feeling skeptical about this place because of the mixed reviews, but do not skip this place! We went during restaurant week and were blown away by how good everything was. The birria tacos, steak frites, and three dips were some favorites. Absolutely will be back

Womp womp... I was super excited for this place, but I think most of the resources were spent on design and marketing, versus the food. I got the Caesar salad and it was incredible! Although I wouldn't call it a Caesar salad. Not sure what it was but maybe change the name so it causes less confusion. For my meal I ordered the fish tacos. First of all, it didn't even come with all of the ingredients it said on the menu seems like they're trying to copy Barracudas fish tacos because it was almost the same ingredients... if only they actually put those ingredients on the tacos! (Pomegranate seeds) see photo attached... that is exactly how the tacos came (except for the bites taken obviously). Driest tacos I've ever had. I didn't eat anymore than this. I thought it would be a safe option but boy was I wrong. [I was informed by my friend that they changed the menu, so the photos of the menu here have different ingredients on the fish tacos than what was on my menu - I didn't take a photo of it... but someone else posted a photo of their "off menu fish tacos" and I think that's what it was supposed to look like] The rice was spicy and disappointing. The beans were like bland mush. Best thing I ate at this Mexican restaurant was the non Caesar, Caesar salad Why didn't I tell the server you ask? Well, no one came back until it was time to pay. Took an hour to order our food too. We were in a large group, but still... we should be able to order at least and no it wasn't busy, it was a Wednesday night so pretty chill. Margarita was good, but those are hard to mess up. Great vibes, unfortunately that's all they got lol. I think they need to hire more staff and train their staff. I won't blame the staff cause they're just college kids, but they definitely need more training.

Dip trio - Queso, Guacamole, Cowboy Caviar

This place has great vibes, good service, and is beautifully decorated inside and outside. The chips and salsa are great and so is the triple dip combo. We got queso, guac, and cowboy caviar and loved all of them. Guac tasted fresh. The enchiladas I probably wouldn't get again, but enjoyed the side of beans and rice. The chicken empanadas were pretty good too. This place is great for drinks and some appetizers!

Chicken Fajitas and Flautas

I loved the food it was full of flavor, had a nice presentation, and came in great portions. I wanted to try more dishes, but I felt full after just two. I tried the chicken fajitas, and the chicken was delicious and cooked perfectly. They offered me off-menu fish tacos, and they were amazing! The flautas were crunchy and absolutely delicious as well. The place is well decorated, and the staff and service are amazing!

This place is BEAUTIFUL, came here for a midday meal with my mother and fiancé and the outdoor seating area was immaculate; everyone came to the conclusion that this place is, "a slice of the beach in Baton Rouge."! The server was clean cut and dashing. Definitely will be returning for any occasion I have in the future!

LOVE this new restaurant. 5/5 stars on atmosphere, service, food, & drinks. Our waitress was so nice and quick and the food was absolutely delicious. My sister got The tequila shrimp tacos and they were my favorite thing I tried. I had the carne asada tacos which were also delicious. The salsa was the perfect amount of spicy & the queso was soooo good! we will be back!

AMAZING food and atmosphere! This place is exactly what Baton Rouge needed, a nice rooftop bar, amazing staff, and even better food. This will definitely be my new go to spot! The shrimp tequila tacos are a must!! 10/10!

I wasn't looking for anything specific to eat but this place called to me so I whipped into the parking lot and headed in! This is such a homey type of place that puts a lot of pride and joy in their food and showing off Latin culture. Los Alvarez Exxpress Latin Food is a local mom and pop spot on the corner of Gardere and Burbank next to the S&P Food Store/Chevron gas station. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going in but what I got was a lot of warmth and comfort. This is a place for Latin locals to relax and get a bit of familiarity and good food. I dined in and ordered the Granadas Catrachas. Catrachas are traditionally known as Honduran tostadas. Los Alvarez puts their spin on it by using Granada flour to create a puff pocket and stuff it with meat, rice and cheese and serve it with encurtido (Honduran pickled vegetables). I ordered one with chicken and one with beef. The serving was huge and absolutely delicious! I was only able to eat one. That, on top of the chips and salsa and black bean dip had me full for the rest of the day! Everyone that works there is friendly and for a second you don't feel like you're in Baton Rouge. It wasn't spicy like most salsa that I taste, but it also had a different flavor. I couldn't really put my finger on what the difference was, but it was really good. I ordered the Carne Asada and it was 10 out of 10 for presentation. The dish came steaming, sizzling and smoking as they sat it down and it continued to do so for over a minute. While the steak was cooked properly, medium well as I requested, it was very tough. Maybe it was an angry cow. Regardless, the staff was very attentive. And the service was very fast. Ambience was nice and it felt very comfortable although it was a bit cold so I had to go and get a jacket for my mom and my sister-in-law. I would give them another try the next time I'm in the area. The menu had a few options that I would be interested in.

I haven't been here for at least seven maybe possibly 10 years since Renee Ortlieb was the owner…read more The reason I came back to try it today was because after a visit to La Mexicana a few days ago only to learn it has closed (and it had become my staple for the area of authentic Mexican). To my surprise, la Tienda Latina is a Honduran restaurant. To my taste Honduran food is blander then real Mexican food. After reading the reviews, I ordered a Mexican coke and an appetizer while I looked at the menu. The friendly English speaking waitress brought salsa and chips to the table, along with my Coke and ample sized appetizer. Shortly after she returned with the Honduran tamale ( chose pork vs chicken). She also brought two condiment bottles of homemade sauces, both green tomatillo and red chili .. both very standard at authentic places. The salsa and chips were nice and fresh tasting and I particularly liked the green sauce with the tamale sauce. Realizing how much food this was already I decided just to order a side of refried beans and some Mexican Crema, which was actually perfect, and I had food to bring home because I only ate half of the tamale and about a fourth of the beans which were delicious. The tamale did need extra flavor although it was packed with potatoes and rice and chunks of cooked roast type pork, and a few peas I think. For the price I think it's quite a bargain to fill up on. However, I filled up quickly by drinking a second Mexican Coke, and had an extra order of the salsa with the chips. I dipped the chips in the beans which were absolutely probably my favorite dish of all. La Tienda won't replace the flavors and menu formerly offered at La Mexicana. I'll have to find another place that has similar type food, but I did enjoy my experience here. However Hondorian food isn't what I get cravings for. Yet, the restaurant was tidy and clean, although I didn't go to the restroom, which is always very telling of how clean a restaurant is. Btw, I know Mexican cokes are usually very pricey, but the idea of paying eight dollars for two medium (quantity) cokes is annoying, but the price of on tap cold drinks has gone up significantly as well around the Baton Rouge area, so often I just have to order water in order to enjoy a sit down meal eating out without paying a total cost of what I used to consider to be premium dinner time treat when I'm just looking for a quick afternoon lunch. Due to my budget lunch (appetizer & 2 sides) selection today I went ahead & ordered a 2nd bottle, and quite enjoyed it, and therefore I have leftovers to enjoy later. I will keep reading other food reviews made here so I can return again and try something else and just maybe I'll find a new favorite!

Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited.
