Mis Padres Mexican Cafe is a typical Tex-Mex restaurant but has a few little differences. 1st thing I noticed when I came in was that someone was making the tortillas right there in the front of the restaurant. The 2nd part is they have a huge bar that doesn't just serve us Coronas and frozen margaritas. I heard someone order an Old Fashioned. Pros: The Salsa is phenomenal. Dark, sweet, peppery and just plain delicious. You can tell it is homemade and someone knows what they are doing. They should sell this in stores. I got the 3 Street Tacos Locos. This was steak fajita beef, with cilantro, onion, cotija cheese, and avocado. They were really good but a little too charred. This came with the usual rice and beans, but this was just filler. The service was good Cons: If you order water, it is from the tap and unfiltered. Tasted like I was drinking water from the hose at my house when I was 10 years old. Just offer bottled water and charge me. Easy fix. Also, the atmosphere isn't much. The booth we sat at was stained and the table had holes in the linoleum cover. How can you clean that? The other part is the AC unit is visible because there is no ceiling. The visual is no biggie but it gets loud and annoying when it kicks on. If I lived close, I would still eat from here because the food is good, but I may get it to go with Extra salsa. read more

Stopped for lunch. Have been to both locations in Prairieville and Dutchtown. Today Prairieville and thank goodness. Lunch was off the hook! I had the Shrimp Brochette and wife had the Steak taco salad. To start the chips and salsa were fresh, the salsa was the best ever. First time I've really enjoyed the salsa. The entrees were cooked to perfection. The shrimp brochette combined with the house made tortillas and the crema sauce was fantastic. The steak in the taco salad also perfection. The service was good. The ambiance was ok. All I ordered was queso cheese with ground beef. It was good but the chips were very disappointing. They were so full of grease that I picked through to get to some that weren't as bad as the rest. When I questioned my server to see if he could bring me chips that weren't so greasy he told me that's all they had and that maybe I could try to use my napkin to get some of the grease off or get some tortillas. And the same awesome bean dip and salsa! A good, solid Mexican choice. Fresh, handmade tortillas (warm and soft and so good). Good variety of enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas - all the standards you expect and all done well. The only thing not done well was the sopapillas. A little flat (not puffy pillows) and greasy (tasted like they were fried in ild oil). If you are looking for a simple, straightforward Mexican menu with good service, this will serve you well. Two downsides: parking is tight, and my wife reports that the ladies restroom is weird. Two toilets but only one of them is in a stall (the other is just in the open). read more

The manager then said they gave me a 16 ounce. Hmm I didn't ask for that AND your sign says $10. So still not $13. She then says she's not changing it bc it's already made. Well Lil Bit keep your queso now and forever bc I will NEVER go back. How the heck are you going to try to make me pay more than ANY advertised price. I wish I would step foot back UP IN THERE. WE ordered the papa supreme on Saturday and asked that only the chips not be included through out nacho because they become soggy with all the other toppings. The male waiter provided my husband with the bag and we did not check until we were on the parking lot. It was apparently that there is a language barrier, because our order was not as we asked. My husband had pulled off because we were in different vehicles, so I called and spoke with the person that took my order and he asked it we could come back and I told him no, because Hwy 42 was closed and Airline was extremely congested; therefore he told me to come back at a later date. I called today Tuesday, September 12 to receive my papa supremes nacho like the waiter indicated however the manager Alana informed me that she would not be able to honor what her waiter told us, because that was what we requested. The waiter admitted fault, but she didn't honor. She faulted a paying customer for the order being wrong...which is absolutely incorrect. I thought I would try Prairieville location again, but never again. We will make that drive to the Blue Bonnet location where our request is honored and the customer service is awesome. Don't visit Prairieville where the customer service is awful and their word is not honored. Blue Bonnet is your best bet! read more

So my husband eager to take me to this place for lunch. The cafe decor was different from other Mexican restaurants but nice. They seem to have two dining sections, with mounted Tvs plus a bar section. After being seated, we were presented with a tray of chips, salsa and bean dip to enjoy while we drunk our beverages and waited for our food. The waiter was attentive and our food arrived to the table in a timely manner. I ordered both the homemade tamales plate and the Sampler plate ( greedy) and my husband ordered the Mixed Fajita Plate. I wasn't impressed by my food. Besides being a little pricey for the amount of food served, my rice was a bit dry and cold, the dip beans tasted better than the refried beans that came on my plate. The tamale was dry and the beef was tough. My husband plate was steaming hot, his meats had that true grilled taste and the chicken was grilled to perfection. No, l didn't eat beyond one tamale a portion of my rice and beans. To be fair to the owner, l will try this place again and give an updated review, realizing every one experience is different. read more

So sad to write this review after visiting today what has been one of my local favorites. We visit on a weekly basis but today wasn't just off, it was awful. Literally everything has changed from the salsa to the beans to the mystery meat that was passed off as chicken in a quesadilla The waiter explained there was new management. This is by far the BEST Mexican food I've ever had and I lived in San Antonio for two years! I traveled frequently to Laredo and ate at some pretty amazing restaurants but after eating at Mi Padre, I am stunned. We had an excellent meal and experience and I'll be back for sure. Personally, I'd skip the salsa and warm bean dip. The hot sauce tasted like watered down tomato paste with a bit of jalapeno juice. I was not pleased with the salsa at all even though the chips were warm and delicious. That was the only bad part of this meal and experience. My husband ordered the Chili Relleno with steak instead of chicken. It was a huge delicious poblano pepper stuffed with what can only be described as the juiciest, most delicious steak we've ever tried. I can't quite describe the sauce that they used on the Chile Relleno. It tasted almost like teriyaki sauce mixed with barbecue. It was different but complimented the pepper so well. He said it was the "best he's ever had". I decided to get the #4 which came with three delicious (flour or corn tortillas) tacos with fresh onion, cilantro, and fajita pork meat. The sauce that accompanied was orange in color and had a citrusty taste but was probably my favorite part of the whole meal. It had a wonderful kick and partnered with the savory pork and homemade flour tortillas, wow, was I in heaven. Now onto my favorite...the chicken tortilla soup! Oh. My. Word. This stuff was SO good! I'm used to clear tortilla soup and this was creamy and white in color. I was nervous at first that he had given me the wrong kind of soup but that first bite really ALMOST changed my life. (No, not almost really, I'm being dramatic, sue me). The chunks of chicken used were humongous and tender, and the onion and cheese were to die for. I wished that I'd stuck with this and taken the tacos home for lunch the next day! Order a BOWL of this, people! SO worth it! Our waiter was a short man who was cracking jokes with us. He was the only one on the floor and was really doing his best. Although we had to wait a bit for refills, he was apologetic and we really didn't have to wait long. I was really excited to try this place out after reading pretty good reviews, but unfortunately I left feeling disappointed. I'm sure the food would have tasted a lot better if I would have had a few margaritas before hand. I ordered the steak tacos which came with beans and rice and my husband ordered the brisket enchiladas. My tacos were okay, not much flavor. I was more disappointed that the meat was full of fat and hard to chew. My husband had the same issues with his meal. On the plus side, the service was great and the bartender made my husband a skinny margarita even though it wasn't on the menu. Probably won't be back anytime soon. read more

They said they couldn't help me so I went back and returned the food. They gave me a full refund so I planned on deleting my post. The manager called me and was very nice, I said they gave me a full refund and that is all I needed. Then the owner called me and said he didn't appreciate me posting when they took care of everything. I explained I had to return to the restaurant to get anything done, and that I planned on deleting the post. Also, I posted before I decided to drive back to the restaurant. This is place better than my last experience in Mexican Food dining. I ordered Chicken Chimichangas. They were pretty good. They came in a sour cream sauce which was pretty good as well. Not the best Chimichangas I've had, but not bad. They had small chunks of chicken instead of shredded, and the chicken appeared grilled instead of the normal way chicken is in these. So it threw my off a bit. Now the Bean Dip was really good! I'm normally not a fan, nor is the Hubby, but we both liked the one served here. I also liked the Queso dip. It was mild and flavorful. Worst $100 I have ever spent. My family have recently relocated to Prairieville and have been searching for a consistent Mexican restaurant. Mis Padres is close to the new home so naturally we were excited. In a nutshell, the food was just really bland. We ordered a kids meal for my son, steak and chicken fajitas, and a breakfast quesadilla. The meat for the most part was not seasoned. My wife couldn't stomach the taste and had to send her fajitas back twice, because when they came back the first time, she didn't notice a difference in taste. In addition, I feel the food is very overpriced. We will search elsewhere for a better experience. read more

The best Tex-mex option in the area in my opinion. . They offer their tasty version of the typical complimentary chips and salsa as all other Mexican restaurants but they go one step further with the beans dip. They also go one step further with their made to order homemade tortillas that are so good. Sorry but if I'm at a restaurant, I don't want store bought tortillas that I can fix at home myself. The steak fajitas are our fave and the meat and veggies are always cooked to perfection. They always ask us if we'd like desser but I can honestly say I've never saved room for dessert since the food is so good. Does this place have anything spicy at all? The "Pico" is a fruity colorful mix of garnish on top of a generous helping of filler lettuce. I want salsa, not a fucking salad. The rice is bland, the fajitas are well salted and seasoned nicely, but there is zero heat to be had. Not even a hint of jalapeño flavor to make one presume the peppers were mild. The guacamole is good. Beans are just a tomato broth with a few legumes in it. Not worth 60 bucks for two entrees plus tip, but marginally better than taco bell, if you count the large helpings of subpar food. An honest attempt at authenticity, but low quality in my opinion.
