I thought lunatic fringe was a fancy salon with fancy hair people. LIES! Bad business owner! I came in had my hair done was talked into a product that I didn't really want to buy. It was $52 product I almost threw up in my mouth when she gave me the total. She states "if you don't like it you can return it". I didn't like it,brought it back, they don't do returns only exchanges. That would of been nice to know when I purchased the product. I did not want to exchange product I asked for a credit instead. She states that was okay, 8 months later I called to get a deep conditioning. I told the receptionist I had a credit I would like to use. Do you thinks she could fine me credit?! NO! The receptionist asks if she could look into this further. Next day she texts me "if you have a invoice for the credit then we would love to exchange your credit for a service. If you can email your invoice and question to this email. Wtf? Am I dealing with Walmart? Or a fancy salon? I call ducking enraged that they would text me and not speak to me. I called and told the receptionist that this was unacceptable! I don't have a invoice, really. The salon owner calls me and basically told me she would not help me out for having a nasty attitude towards her and her staff. A week and a half ago I wanted to get the popular calico hair, and I had temporary black dye in my hair and I know that it was going to lift weird. I told them the type of hair I wanted, and the stylist said it was possible. I wanted the very top layer of my hair to be black, the middle section to be blonde, and the bottom to be red. Once my black hair dye in the tips of my hair lifted pink, I was okay with cutting off the pink and layering my hair enough so the blonde in the middle would peak through. She ended up dying the whole top of my head black, the bottom of my hair blonde, and giving me red tips on the bottom of the blonde. I know for a fact I explained what I wanted very thoroughly, but as soon as she got the idea of what SHE wanted, she just did it. I paid $515 dollars for this service including a $50 dollar tip, because I'm not a scrooge. But, I absolutely hate my hair. It looks terrible curled and I just cannot stand it. Now, I'm going to have to go to a hair salon and pay another $500 dollars to get the hair to a dark red base color because there's no way of me going back to completely blonde to redo this whole thing. Not to mention, They quoted me by how many bowls of bleach, developer, and dye they would use. I thought it was kind of absurd on how much it was going to cost considering my hair is only sternum length. Throughout the whole service, I noticed my stylist not using all of the product in the bowl she mixed and then just making more, therefore making me pay at least an extra $100. I would have not left this review and figured it out privately, but Lunatic Fringe has been a salon for over 20 years and they don't have a customer service email? What? I do not want to hash this out with some snobby receptionist over the phone. I do want to mention that the salon was very beautiful. I loved the color scheme and the staff we're really nice with the water and snacks, but I feel like the absolute mental torture this stylist put me through wasn't worth some water and snacks. I'd hope to maybe get an extreme discount or even a free fix because holy hell, this was the worst hair experience I've ever had. I had to walk out of the salon $515 dollars short and smiling to try and mask how much it was the complete opposite of what I wanted. read more

This place is VERY far from my house but Lunatic Fringe has made a convert of me, I don't know if I'll ever go anywhere else again. No I just have to figure out a better way to get here than the way my GPS tells me. First of all, they stayed open late for me which made me worship them. I was leaving town that weekend, I was desperate for someone to fix the disaster that the last place I'd gone had made of my bangs, and they accommodated my schedule. All of the staff was very friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there, not just in that, "I work here and it doesn't suck" kind of way, and it was really nice to see. When I got there they offered me a bottle of water, asked multiple times if I wanted any snacks and if I was comfortable. Sara Lee was my stylist and she did an amazing job, my red is not an easy color to get right and she matched the old color perfectly then gave me a demi glaze to brighten it up. I left feeling beautiful and SO relieved that all the pictures of me on vacation wouldn't have those awful uneven bangs. read more

Even requested that he service be changed and be charged the full amount ( remove haircut and only blow dry and wash) was refused and had the audacity to charge for not giving the service even when the saloon is not busy. Well, my daughter had a hair appt a bit before Thanksgiving which she was so EXCITED for. At 10 am that morning, they called and had to reschedule her. Today she had scheduled an appointment (and you she is 12 and trying to learn how the world works but doing well to manage it) at 3:30. She called to let them know she was running late. She said if she wasn't there by 3:40 they would charge her $20. She did her best to get there at arrived at 3:45. They said that it violated the policy and that they couldn't cut her hair. So the hairstylist didn't get any money and sat there for 45 minutes and my daughter left wondering why they couldn't quickly wet her hair, cut it and finish in 45 minutes. This AFTER they cancelled her appt at 10 am the morning of her original appt, they punished her for being late. I called to find out what happened and it is clear, they don't care about the customer. What happened to solving problems and common sense? I just cancelled my appt in January at Lunatic Fringe and my family will NEVER go to Lunatic Fringe again. I came into the salon with a very specific style in mind and Audriana executed it perfectly. She made me feel so comfortable and checked in frequently when she was cutting my hair to make sure I was happy with it. I recommend everyone go to her, she's so talented. Cassidy Brown was AMAZING. I am a person with zero experience with anything to do with hair and Cassidy was a blessing. She walked me through every step and explained everything she was doing, why she was doing it and what it would do for my hair. She made sure that I was comfortable with the cut and style in every moment. It was above and beyond any haircut I've experienced! I have SO much hair that I don't know what to do with. Cassidy gave me amazing tips and tricks to help tame and maintain my mane in between appointments. She was cheerful, personable and so so helpful. I haven't been to Lunatic Fringe before, but I have become an immediate big fan after my experience, today. My hair has never looked better. I've been going to Kaeslyn since she worked on South Temple. Not only does she do an amazing job on my hair, she has always made me feel comfortable and welcome. Some high end salons make their less "hip" or "fashionable" clients feel uncomfortable or unwelcome but that's never been the case with Kaeslyn or anyone else at the salon. I always look forward to going because I'm greeted warmly, treated wonderfully and leave feeling beautiful. They also take Covid very seriously and that's extra bonus points! read more

Honestly I am super bummed to be writing this. I LOVEEEEE my hairstylist here. She is a freaking magician with my thick, blonde hair - the grow out is always stunning and the cut is amazing. However, today I had an appt that I flew in from out of town for. Usually i am in the salon for 4-5 hours. I got a call 45 mins before my appt asking where I was because the apt was at 11:15 not 12:15 (which was my mistake with time zone changes). I said I would hurry down there as fast as I could and they said they could put in a few highlights and a hair cut but I needed to be there in 15 minutes. I don't live close enough to get there in 15 minutes... They said no we can't budge for 20 minutes...Not to mention, I already had another appointment booked that THEY cancelled on me previously (this was the make up one for that). Literally moments later I got a $170 charge to my debit card....for an honest mistake, that they were unwilling to work with me on. Paying for flights, plus no service, plus inconvenience for being 30 mins late (not cool on my end)....for a 4 hour service...doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Super disappointed in this brand in not taking care of their clients. I've been a long time customer and this makes me reconsider coming back to Lunatic. Not because of my stylist, but because of how little they care for their customers. Just really doesn't feel good as a client. Or like the right thing to do...if it was a straight up no show, I get it. But not this.... shitty customer service and $500+ down the drain for no haircut or color. read more

It had been over a year since anyone touched my hair. It was bad. I mean, I seriously looked like a Norwegian death metal guitarist, with my heavy, stick-straight hair inching it's way down my back and hanging in my face. I chose Lunatic Fringe because it looked like the type of place that could give me a nice short cut, while maintaining a stylish edge, so I don't fall into the lame-o "mom" hair zone. My stylist, Lacey, delivered. We took off 11 1/2 inches and I let her know I wanted to donate my hair. She knew exactly how to rubber band, measure and cut it so it would be accepted. She also bagged my hair nicely. I got a great haircut and full dye for $100 total. That might be expensive if you're used to discount places, but for a nice salon and quality job, I feel this was a great deal. The salon itself is very "hip" and all the men were prettier than me, but there wasn't an ounce of pretentiousness whatsoever. I never felt like a schlub, even though I walked in there like one. He asked about my wants and needs, asked to describe my vision, and then made a few suggestions based on the structure and growth patterns of my hair. The shittiest customer service ever! I came in for my first time to get a haircut and bought product. It cost me $50. When I bought the product they told me if I didn't like it, I could bring it back. I brought it back a week later since it weighed my hair down. The girl at the front desk told me that they don't give cash back that I would have to do a credit or return exchange product . I did not want any of their products so I asked for a credit. I called today to see if I could get a deep condition with my credit and they had no proof of it. This is the worst salon ever DO NOT waste your money here. The owner Cassie is the most unprofessional person I've ever encountered. They ruined my hair and turned it orange/yellow and fried it by toning it 3 times and then refused to fix it. I left in tears and Cassie didn't seem to care at all. She had only worked at the salon for a day so the previous 18 years experience must have been at a dollar cuts not a high end salon. I told Mickey the manager of LF parley's I didn't feel comfortable going to another salon I hadn't seen the stylists work and was worried another stylist would mess up my blonde... well Melissa at Lunatic Fringe Holladay botched my hair so bad it's now orange/yellow with huge chunks of blonde and fried. The picture I showed her was my hair 6 weeks prior with bright, vibrant blonde, with well blended highlights not huge ugly chunks. Both salons refused to fix it and told me they are parting ways with me. When I asked to speak to the main owner Shawn I was told by Mickey he would call me to discuss the issue but 5 minutes later I was told by the owner of the Holladay salon (Cassie) that Shawn won't be calling me he didn't care what happened and that it was Mickey's call to not let anyone fix my hair. Well if thats the case that is bad business practice and the worst customer service ever! They don't care about their loyal customers so don't give them business. I had to go to another salon to get my hair fixed. Go to Meraki House, Salon Zazou, Salon Keiji, or Studio H2O these salons aren't a chain and actually value customers. Very helpful and attentive staff! I got a cut and mutli-dimensional color from Kristy and she was so great. First, she had me describe what I was looking for with the appointment and then if she had any questions she had me clarify. She was truly trying to visualize what I had in my head and asked the right questions and made helpful suggestions. I was getting an undercut and wasn't sure how wide I wanted it to be so she said, "Why don't we start with an inch and see how you feel and then we can progress at that time." Which was so nice! There was zero pressure to make a decision right away, she let me feel out all the decisions I was wary about. The staff was all so wonderful with their clients as well. They were all attentive listeners, doubling as therapists- kudos. Snacks and drinks were offered regularly. The scalp massage just about put me to sleep. I walked with exactly the cut and color I wanted. It's been years since I've walked from a salon genuinely pleased and excited with the work that was done. Have had a variety of ability levels in the past at other salons (in New York) and typically left very underwhelmed after paying substantially in time and money. Have been consistently impressed here and I actually like the way my hair looks now. I usually don't just go to any hair studio on a whim but I needed a haircut and after just moving here I took a chance on Lunatic Fringe. I really lucked out because I got Tason and he is awesome. I have been going to him for the past year and I am so happy with my cut and color every single time. If you want your hair to be ruined, and have a bad experience, then this salon is the one. Lunatic Fringe Salons are great in the other locations, but just this one in Holladay is so bad that I and my friends are surprised it has its name. The owner and the team are not professional at all. They don't treat you like a customer and you are paying for your service, while all other salons I visit usually spoil me especially at the first visit. They didn't care about how we felt during the process, they made us late on our plans and waste much time there, their prices are so high comparing to their bad services, the treatment was bad that they washed my friend's hair with a very cold water even she told them that it was cold, and the result is a ruined hair. read more
