I was in Scottsdale for my 40th birthday festivities and stumbled upon this astounding establishment. I'd driven for over an hour (Googling different cities in between travel) looking for a black owned establishment. Whenever I travel I seek out to support (I am from Houston so BOBs are easier to find). This lounge was perfect for my last night in Arizona. The songstress and live band, incredibly soothing. But it does not stop there. The ambiance and the welcomeness of the staff and owner let me know it was going to be a great night. As a solo traveler to a new town you want to feel like you're "home away from home" and that is what happened. My awesome waiter provided great food and cocktail recommendations: Candy Rain cocktail (Similar to an AMF but BETTER), Jerk Eggrolls , and the showstopper Seafood Alfredo Mash. Colossal shrimp atop salmon (perfectly cooked and seasoned- I'm a Texas girl so if the flavor isn't right it's not a good night ), asparagus, and BOMB mashed potatoes dripping with Alfredo sauce. I am so happy to have found this lounge, especially on Grown & Sexy night (30+) the owner was BEYOND hospitable and she made my night the best to date. This place has potential but the drinks are over priced and the time it takes to get your drink is ridiculous. It takes so long that you forget you even ordered a drink. I visited this establishment last night. Got a little vodka, Sprite and a lemon drop and it cost me $33. They served it in this little cheap dollar store cup that couldn't even have been 8 ounces. It's just ridiculous cause the music is good at atmosphere is nice, but it's overpriced and you could go to so many other places and get better drinks, taller drinks for a better price. I visited Lush for brunch, but I can already see the potential for an amazing atmosphere at night time. The food was great. I had both the shrimp and grits, which came with turkey sausage (that's a plus for me) and the French toast. Both were very flavorful! They have a music theme with drinks aligning with that theme. Visited lush yesterday and sadly had the worst experience. I boasted about this place to family/friends and treated them out for mothers day. Made a reservation a week prior only tobe told my reservation was not tobe found in the system even though I had a conf email. So to be sat was about 20min wait. Our waitress was terrible not attentive what so ever we had to ask for water, silverware & togo boxes 2-3x each which she never provided we had to ask other staff for these items. We were over charged but she also failed to enter 1 member if my parties entire order not to mention we waited an hout and a half for food just to be told they ran out of what we ordered over an hour ago. Also ran out of champagne. Was served tap water in these mini plastic cups. Tried to get a drink at the bar stood there for 15/20 minutes before even getting acknowledged. I understand it was a holiday and while sundays im sure are popular for brunch it id think they'd maybe be a bit more prepared. Overall it seems very unorganized. I was not familiar with the Lush Cafe so I was looking forward to seeing what the place was all about. Great looking place. Ordered the chicken and red velvet waffle. HUGE chicken wings adorned my plate, freshly cooked and perfect! Absolutely scrumptious! The service was very pleasant and attentive. I wanted so badly to be able to give a 5 star review. This however, is not the case. I actually was not going to leave a review until I read through a few on another website. It's been well over a year since I attempted to venture out and Lush Cafe was my choice. Worse decision I could have made! A good friend of mine invited me out for drinks, knowing we both had early mornings, we decided Lush would be the ideal spot. Close by, mature, and gave us the opportunity to support a Black owned business. My friend was immediately turned away because her white dress showed her silhouette. Although Security is responsible for making the decision, a woman from inside ran out to tell her the dress was inappropriate, despite the fact that it came to her ankles. My friend is a beautiful bi-racial woman. (Fair skin + white dress = washout) Even though the restaurant staff person spoke in a soft tone, you have to be aware that you may trigger a person by what you say. The way she repeatedly shaped her hands around my friends body, explaining her point, really felt like body shaming. Instead of stating the restaurant would be closing at midnight, incase we wanted to change and come back, the employee turned and went inside. We left and ended up spending $40 for a dress that could have been spent in the restaurant. Although the black sheer dress 'passed' the scrutiny, we were told that the kitchen closed at 11pm. (It was 10:54pm.) No time to squeeze into the table and make a decision if we wanted food. My friend at this time, feeling very uncomfortable asked if we could just leave because of how she had been made to feel. Once outside, security said he didn't understand what the problem was with the first dress. We walked away. The employee who initially refused us entry, ran outside as we were walking away and said, "I need you to come back. I need you to come in." If she had informed us of the closing time before, maybe we would have. Maybe if her looks were not so disparaging towards my friend, maybe. Maybe instead of inviting us back tomorrow to see a live performance and to get there early, with no other offer of free water or something, we would have considered it. Because she said she needed us to come back. I even asked if it was a church establishment because of the long list posted outside the main entrance of what is not allowed to be worn. I was told it wasn't. I had a looser dress code at my all girls high school, and we wore uniforms. I guess she needed us to come back because the parking lot was less than half full, on a Friday night. I could have overlooked all of this, but the one thing, I cannot and will not over look is poor treatment to people of color, especially from other people of color. If you think my comments are extreme, tell that to the tears that flowed from my friend's eyes for 30 minutes because of how she was made to feel. All we wanted to do was have a drink. We will have a drink, but it won't be here. You never know who is coming to your place of business or what influence they may have. All I can say is do better...... read more

This was a surprise dinner for my first time there. I had heard about it and was happy to be supporting a black business. We were there early on a Saturday. Getting out of the car you hear the music with "MF" and "F" blasting outside. At that point I didn't know if I wanted to go in. Service was slow but pleasant. The interior music was loud. The food was excellent. Our server was good, but did not meet the extensive dress code posted outside. She did not reflect the business very well. Came on a Thursday night to watch karaoke. Sat at the bar; service was kinda slow but eventually picked up once the second bar tender showed up. $5 margs until 9p which was great. I ordered the Lamb & potatoes....uh lol. It was a mountain of mashed red potatoes surrounded by a swamp of gravy (literally looked like a moat), the menu says it comes with charred broccolini but I was served 11 pieces of asparagus. The lamb was lamb lollipops instead of whole chops. It started pretty good but the plating turned me off a lot. I would probably get something else if I decide to come back. Coming from 18 years in Chicago, my expectations of great dining is way up there., and I often find myself disappointed with the dining in Arizona. HOWEVER, Lush Cafe and Lounge exceeded my expectations from start to finish. Upon entering, we were met with the gorgeous decor of the spacious, dining area. From the artwork to the accent walls, it exudes a lovely, upscale aesthetic with great attention paid to the details. It's refreshing to finally see an establishment such as this positioning itself for success. On their website, expectations are set for what kind of vibe to bring, and those who come understand the assignment. With the dress code, the reservation deposit, and the automatic 20% gratuity, Lush has not come to play or tolerate shenanigans. I'm very much appreciative that they are setting a standard, encouraging a more sophisticated clientele (i.e., Pookie, Hennesy and the crew are not likely to be here). From the hostess to our server, everyone we came in contact with was warm, welcoming, and attentive so that set the tone for the evening. I was equally impressed with the eclectic, creative food and cocktail menus. I chose the lamb lollipops with the shrimp fried rice, while my friend had the pasta with lobster and shrimp. The food and drinks tasted as amazing as they were creatively presented. The lamb chops were lean, seasoned well, and the best I've had outside of my own kitchen. There was a top-notch songstress with a live band who gave us a great show of 'ole school RnB songs.
