Like many I was on a ski trip in Jay Peak with some friends and my husband's truck starting overheating on our way to the mountain. We were stressed about getting it fixed because I had a flight the next day from Boston and it was Sunday so every repair shop was closed. We were lucky enough to notice Lutz's bay door closing as we passed and quickly pulled in. The shop was closed, but the owner went out of his way to help us. After taking a quick look, he let us know it was a coolant leak and he would work on it the next day. He set realistic expectations and was kind and thoughtful. He had the truck fixed and ready to go the next day, and was very reasonably priced. If you're in a bind or just looking for some general maintenance, we couldn't recommend Lutz Automotive enough! read more

Absolutely wonderful service at Lutz's Automotive! We were at a conference at Jay Peak Ski Lodge this month and got a flat tire. Apparently tires are one of the commodities that are in short supply due to Covid. We called several places and Lutz's Automotive was able to order a tire for us and have it there the next morning. They were super helpful and very friendly. Their service was outstanding and we felt like they really cared about our issue. Several service technicians jumped in to help change the tire and then they even drove it to make sure everything was set correctly. If there was a higher rating than 5 stars these folks deserve it. I wish we lived closer to these wonderful people but Virginia is a bit far to drive. Ryan and Derrick we now feel like we have friends in Vermont! Outstanding! read more

My family has been using Lutz's since 1985. They have done everything short of a full engine rebuild for us over the years. Many tire patches and plugs, a welding repair on a badly jack-knifed boat trailer tounge, tire mounting and balancing, alignments, brake jobs, fluid swaps, you name it they've done it for us. They also do towing. Many times they could have charged us anything and we would have paid it, but Mr. Lutz and his son Derek have far more integrity than that. Lutz's has always been great about explaining repairs and reasons why they need to happen. I recently went on a road trip and had them prep my car, which included recharging my AC. In TX it started intermittently blowing warm air. A local mechanic tried to rip me off claiming it was 2 leaking hoses that would cost $1k to replace. I called Lutz's and they assured me they had checked those hoses for leaks using UV dye and educated me about the symptom indicating a failing compressor, not leaking hoses. I took it to a different mechanic where they confirmed the hoses were fine and replaced the failing compressor. read more

I had a radiator replaced here. I came back the next day because my car was running worse off then when I dropped it off. The guy made a stink about it and then when I asked him to at least read the codes to see if it was related to his work he agreed only if I paid $25 to hook the machine up. They also removed a bunch of connectors and replaced them with zip ties. Another sketchy repair shop. read more

I was on a winter road trip north from New York City, through Vermont, and up into Quebec, and after a day of skiing at Jay Peak, I returned to my Jeep late Friday afternoon and discovered that my coolant system had frozen in the sub-zero temperatures of the day's Polar Vortex, causing my engine to overheat. But I was able to arrange a tow to Lutz's early Saturday morning, and Derek was able to get my car into a warm bay, defrost the slushy coolant, flush my system, and refill it with the proper mixture (apparently, 60/40 antifreeze/water is better for northern Vermont and Canada) and I was back on the road before noon. Great folks, honest service, and helpful advice. It's sort of the platonic ideal of what a small-town Vermont auto repair business should be, the sort of place where the owners are on a first-name basis with all their customers, and people stop in all the time just to catch up and say hi. read more

Lutz's truly receives 100 STARS not just 5!! My son was traveling in Vermont when he experienced car trouble in his Subaru Outback wagon. He had has car towed to the nearest auto repair shop which happened to be Lutz's. Derek inspected the car and quickly diagnosed the problem. My son, being 240 miles from home, was extremely lucky he found Lutz's. Derek was honest (hard to find in the auto repair business!), extremely knowledgeable, polite, customer oriented, and offered the best, cost effective service and advice of any auto repair shops I've ever dealt with and I've been driving for 44 years!! I've dealt with the worst and some better but Lutz's is the best! Thank you Lutz's Automotive, and Derek for such TREMENDOUS SERVICE!
