As many who know me on here, know I love taking pics of vintage fashions. This is one of my favorite thrift stores in Indy for that. So many vintage pieces in this thrift boutique. They have an area just for vintage ! A bonus is that next door is Half Price Books with a fashions book area. This is at the intersection of Ditch Rd. and extremely busy 86th St. Don't get it confused with the one near Castleton Mall. Personally I feel the 86th. street one has more stocked albeit narrower aisles. Would post more pics for those that might be interested further. read more

There was a good variety to choose from. There's also some higher-end items like a Lilly Pulitzer hoodie hoodie for $55. I ended up buying a cute dress from Loft for just $7.99. The aisles were a little crowded with furniture but the clothing section was laid out well. There were also a lot of people when I was there so it was difficult to browse. read more

I like that this thrift store is benefitting the Julian Center! Also, they have a lot of sparkly fun dresses! It feels more curated than Goodwill for sure. I found it was not super-organized, but that's part of the fun of thrifting. It has a limited men's section and a small housewares section, too. Keep an open mind! First rule of thrift shopping: don't go expecting to find something specific--go for the thrill of the find! Thrifty Threads came highly recommended by a family member, and it didn't disappoint. The aisles can be a bit tight, and I'd love to see better organization with sizes and labels for the clothing and shoes. Prices are hit or miss, but I appreciate that they drop the longer an item stays in the store. There's a higher-end clothing section near the front, which is a nice touch. My daughter found a great-fitting pair of jeans at a reasonable price. When we got home, we looked up the brand and discovered they retail for over $100--definitely a great score! read more

It's hard to give three stars to a thrift store that has such good intentions. This place supports The Julian Center, which in turn supports victims of domestic violence and their families. I mean, come on. That's pretty great. But three stars means OK, right? This place is A-OK. I wanted to love this thrift store, but instead, I walked away from it thinking it was just fine, in terms of price and selection of clothing. But that's OK. Not every place is for everybody. I'm a seasoned thrift store shopper, and I found the prices a tad on the high end for the selection offered. But maybe you will visit and find the perfect thing for you. Like the name of the store implies, most of the space is devoted to threads. So you'll find mostly women's clothing, and some men's clothing, and even less children's clothing. You'll also find shoes, handbags and accessories. To a lesser extent, you'll also find books, home goods, picture frames, coffee mugs, curtains, sporting goods and a smorgasbord of miscellanea. The people who work here are very friendly and helpful. Some of the more expensive clothing items are locked, so you need to get the attention of someone with a key to unlock it for you. There are people roaming around on the floor, so I easily found someone to unlock the North Face jacket I was eyeing so that I could try it on. It's kind of a bummer that things are locked up, but I guess it is what it is. read more

First, the mission. They support the Julian Center, a local shelter for domestic violence survivors and others. Second, the staff. They people collecting donations are always prompt and kind when helping unload donations. The cashiers are equally friendly and helpful. Third, the selection. Yes, this place is stuffed to the gills and maybe a bit hard to navigate, but they have so much stuff! Some cool furniture, very high end gently used purses, and the biggest selection of evening gowns I've ever seen. If you have a special event and don't want to pay a small fortune for a dress, this is where you want to shop. read more

Good organization I the store, inflated prices throughout the store which sadly meant there was a 10 minute experience for me. I'm not paying $10 for Kathy Ireland clothes from K-Mart and I will die on that hill. Also taking into the consideration of the parking situation and location of this place. Although I don't live in Indy, I know this location and the parking lot is always busy and the light getting you back onto 86th is always short. read more

Much and changeable variety-- better if you're looking for XX rather than XY gear. Well-organized. Certain prices are clearly insane, but most are very reasonable and the merchandise is in very good to excellent condition. Clothing, household, furniture, jewelry, bric-a-brac, and books are well-organized and sorted. Checkout can take some time, but the volunteers here are cheery and helpful. Located next to Half Price Books. Recommended for thrift store hunters. read more

This thrift store supports a good cause...the Julian Center. They carry a range of donated items from household goods to clothing and jewelry. The merchandise is well displayed and clean. You can find antiques, jewelry and interesting vintage items. I never leave empty handed. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices can be high, but they mark down things after they have been there too long. On Mondays, they offer 20% discount to seniors. It is also a good place to donate items. The money helps support victims of domestic violence. There are no public bathrooms. There is plenty of parking. read more

I do more donating than buying at this location. It supports the Julian Center for women and their children facing abuse. They also accept a wider variety of items for donation than Goodwill stores, so even though it is further away than a number of GW stores to me, I make a trip to this location a few times a year. I haven't purchased anything there in many years, so cannot comment on the variety, quality, or price. I just know it supports a very good local cause. read more

Thirfty Threads has a variety of items at great prices. Lots of Household and decor things can be found here. There is a good selection of furniture, women, men, an childrens clothing and shoes and accessories. Beautiful jewlery, books, games and designer clothing too. Be sure to plan an hour or more browsing this store. It's a fun and valuable treasure hunt. I never leave empty handed!! A new Thirfty Threads just opened a new store at 8424 Castleton Corner Drive, same great it's and same great prices. Well worth the trip to see all that they carry. I was looking for something other than the usual (i.e. Goodwill) and this store came up in the search results. It's located off 86th Street in a corner of a strip mall but is not hard to find. They had some racks outside of clothing that was 50% off but opted to go inside. I was surprised to see that they had quality (designer?) purses on sale. I wasn't in the market for a purse so perused the clothing and the store as a whole. I did notice that most of their clothing selection was for women but they had some men's clothing too. The only issue I had while perusing the racks is that the clothing is not sorted by size which was overwhelming for me. I did find 3 nice shirts for under $10. I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area. read more

I really like thrifty threads! I come into see what unique items they have and this is my go to donations spot. They support the Julian Center and their mission. The store has clothing, housewares, furniture, and other random bits. The store is smaller than goodwill locations and the employees are kind. There are nice quality items in the store and there is always a lot to look at. They also have some higher end items that have been donated and you can get at a good price, but higher than you would expect at a thrift store. read more

It was only about 4:30pm..... really sad bc I love finding treasures at thrift stores, but this place apparently doesn't care that much about making money if they won't stay open during normal business hours. I absolutely adore this store! Several years back I scored three vintage LANE Acclaim tables for $40 each and have sworn by this place ever since. While prices may vary, it all goes to support The Julian Center of Indiana and help domestic violence victims/families get back on their feet. Because of this, more people and companies are apt to donate here for the tax break. The result? You can find some primo merchandise if you have the patience to look. Need a prom dress? My daughter does, and you'd better believe we hit them up. Wedding dress? They have those too, gorgeous ones in fact! I especially love scanning the glass jewelry cases for 'new to me' sterling bargains. Another thing I recently discovered, Thrifty Threads has a work program for people recuperating from an injury on Workman's Comp. So you can serve your community, volunteering and get a discount on great stuff doing so. A win, win, for sure - unless you have hoarding tendencies and it can certainly get out of control quick! read more

As a longtime friend/supporter of Julian Center, an Indy nonprofit supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and other life issues, I've always had a desire to more frequently utilize Thrifty Threads. Thrifty Threads is, quite obviously, a thrift store with proceeds going to support the work of Julian Center. That's awesome. It's also awesome that Julian Center allows its clients to utilize the thrift store at no cost to the client - a wonderful benefit that allows many families the possibility to obtain items to help rebuild lives impacted by violence. 91% of Julian Center's clients live at or below the poverty line - so this is a HUGE opportunity. Again, that's all awesome. While I don't believe for a second there's a gender bias in terms of Thrifty Threads, the simple fact is that for both domestic violence and sexual violence that more women are impacted. It makes sense that Thrifty Threads would have more items targeting women than targeting men. The findings for men can be quite slight - there's quite a few rows of clothing for women, but only a couple solid rows for men. As is true for most thrift stores, they also have sections for furniture, media items (books, CD's, videos), and a whole lot of household goods. The store is packed, but not overwhelmingly so. Thrifty Threads started out in Broad Ripple in the spot currently housed by Three Wisemen Brewery and has been located in its Northwestside spot ever since. It's located next to Half-Price Books at 86th & Ditch. The current spot is smaller, though I think the space is well used. I think another Yelper's comparison to Goodwill is fair, though I'd say products here for the most part are a tad nicer and, at times, a whole lot more expensive for the general public. While I realize this is a charitable effort, it's also a thrift store and the prices on some of the furniture just seemed ludicrous. I noticed the pricing on men's pants was $3.49, a touch lower than Goodwill and most of the pants I saw were higher quality but did skew toward smaller sizes and were poorly marked with sizing. I admire the mission and admire the work of Julian Center, though I wish they were stronger in the area of working with disabled survivors. However, they've improved dramatically over the years and even will serve men in some of their programs now. This wasn't always the case. However, I can't ignore the fact that selection is pretty sparse for men, pricing on some items seems unjustifiably high and their fitting room situation, there is one haphazardly constructed one, is pretty weak. To this day, I've yet to actually buy anything from Thrifty Threads despite my best effort to do so. While they do have a couple accessible parking spots, given the popularity of both Thrifty Threads and Half-Price this also tends to be insufficient. So, 3-star it is with the extra star given primarily because of the noble mission of the business and its commitment to providing resources to survivors of violence. read more

This is a great spot for some thrifting! The cause is a great way to help the Julian Center and the proceeds go to domestic violence victims. They're open 10 am to 6pm Mon-Sat. It's similar to a Goodwill inside. Everything is organized nicely. The place is pretty big, I do wish it was better lit inside. There are two doors in the front to enter in, and the customer service is right there when you do walk in. They had a nice chunk of furniture. Some things were priced well and other things seemed a little high to me. They have fitting rooms to try on items. There is a huge dvd and book section. I didn't have a ton of time to look around, so I skimmed everything rather quickly. But they have some great stuff. It's definitely a place to check out, I know I'll be back!! read more

I score amazing things here. I've gotten multiple pairs of designer shoes here. They have everything from shoes, handbags, housewares, jewelry, etc. and everything goes to a good cause. Two things hit me as soon as I walked in the door at Thrifty Threads - the overwhelming musty-meets-mothball smell that says many of the items in here haven't seen the light of day in some time and the lack of adequate lighting. Jenn's use of "warehouse' in her description is pretty accurate - it's dark and spacious and the clothes, housewares, furniture and odds-n-ends are somewhat haphazardly arranged, well, deposited. The best part of my visit was seeing a pink satin bra sitting on a glass shelf next to some assorted glasses and candlesticks - I know, somebody put it down there after second thoughts, but it still made me smile. I didn't look through the clothes either because, honestly, even if there had been something here worth saving, I wouldn't have been able to see it -too dark for me, especially after descending on the interior after riding without sunglasses around on a sunny, cloudless day. Okay, I went in here hoping to find some shades, I admit it! I did actually see some decent designer shoes in fair shape, but that is one thing I just can't seem to buy used - unless for a costume. I applaud Laura P. for her ability to find wearables here and give them new life, but I'm not that imaginative I suppose. I do think this is a good place to hunt for little doo-dads like the swan Jenn mentions....you really never know what you'll find. I did find two square plates with a bamboo motif that I intend to use as pillar candle holders - at .67 each, a true bargain! read more

As a thrift store, this is a good location. Merchandise is organized and there is some really good stuff here. Their staff accepting donations on the back side of the store could use some 'buffing and flossing'. Perhaps they are volunteers? Perhaps the job pays poorly? I'm not sure--but these staff members are consistently grumpy. They act like you are doing a bad thing by dropping off donated goods. Someone should encourage them to greet people with a smile and say 'thank you for your donation' read more

Great glassware and china sets. Recommend going there if you're looking for beautiful china sets first. GOD do I love a good thrift store with quality items. Thrifty threads, why yess you are!! 10 items: $21.85. Doesn't get much better than 2.00 an item. My finds: a satin prom dress in fuscia that is a going to have a second life as at cocktail length. A fleece hoodie that kept me warm during the cold camping trip, Michael Kors leather sandals, an african one-shoulder dress that will be altered and gorgeous, a super cute sailing vest......again I emphasize my total. Last weekend was 50% off everything in the store, I did not know that until I went up to the register or else I am sure I would have filled up my friends mini-van. But then again it is not like I need any more clothes. Even without the 50% the items were worth every penny....shop here for great deals on amazing clothing!!! read more

I am not as excited as other reviewers. 1. Some items are way overpriced. I picked a pair of used boots with mud/dirt in soles and they wanted $15 for those boots that I had to take home and wash..... wth? Under their "glass case" there was a Chanel wallet priced at $50. when I asked to see it, it was 100% fake yet they placed the wallet into real Chanel box. To make it more realistic? The wallet's quality wasn't real leather. It was imitation made in China! Chanel never makes wallets in China! The box however said "made in France". 2. They seem to have people who know people and those people call their friends and let their friends know when something WORTHY or good comes to store. So 90% of their item selection is very worn/old crap. Everything GOOD doesn't even make to the floor or ridiculously over priced. They have in their "glass case" Juicy Couture diaper bag priced at $250... freaking nutz. Even on JC's website you can buy a 100% leather tote for $148...these people don't know prices nor can't correctly priced bran name items. All purchases are FINAL so you can't return whatever it is you buy there. read more

I have shopped here for about 4 years, and they had reasonable prices until the last year or so. Clothing is still a good deal, but hard goods are really high. Furniture is as high as Antique stores. I will not shop here as often as I used to. read more

I love Goodwill. They are a stand-up organization with a noble cause. That said, I love Thrifty Threads more. Why, you ask? Because TT proceeds support the Julian Center, a live-in shelter for domestic abuse victims and their children that acts as an intermediary between their old life and the new one they are about to start. I've got a ton of gently used clothes that at one point looked great in the store, and not so great in my possession at home. Some things I wore once and forgot about. I've got a couple of sweaters still tagged that will probably never see light of day until I take them to Thrifty Threads. TT will turn around and sell them for pennies on the dollar of their worth and somehow be able to make money. Some of the women's clothing donations (especially suits) go directly to the victims themselves (after thorough cleaning.) The great other thing about my donations to TT? I receive a receipt that is legit for me to write off the value of the goods from my federal income tax income liability. Last year those several donations of several hundred dollars worth of clothes kept me from owing to getting a slight refund. Helping those in need and helping my wallet at the same time. Now, if I can keep from buying clothes I don't wear... but if the volume of clothes for sale at thrifty is any indication, I'm not the only one with the same problem. So donate and shop in good measure, you will be helping many people (and some clothes) start a new life. read more

Wow- I didn't know this place was here or exactly what it was. I had a bit of time before a dinner date, so I stopped in here for some quick shopping. This is not your average thrift (junk) store. Everything here was in excellent condition and pretty cute, too. Proceeds from Thrifty Threads benefit the Julian Center. You can donate at the register (they had a little bucket out), but the signs stated that's what's benefited. So- Really great idea. The only downside is that they close at 6 during the week. I got there about 5:30 not really realizing that. I was there for about a half hour and I ended up with three tank tops, a long sleeved shirt and a couple bracelets. read more

We do both here: donate and purchase. It's so easy! When it's time to clean house and get rid of old clothes or furniture, I fill up the back of the truck and we drive it out to Thrifty Threads. They always help us unload the car and offer a receipt. When it was time to find a dining room table -- the kind a new couple with a lot of recent marriage-related expenses can afford -- we looked no further than the furniture section of Thrifty Threads. It was a great deal, and they delivered it for $40. Now I have a new-used dining table that friends and family can sit around. And after loading the delivery van with a couple bags of clothes, my closets are better organized! It feels good to know the money and items are going to a great cause, too! read more

This is by far my favorite thrift store in Indy. They have a wide assortment of items and prices. The overall quality is definitely higher than Goodwill. My only two quibbles: sizes on clothes seems to lean toward the smaller ladies, I think I found 1 or 2 things that were sized larger than a 10. I know its based on donations but I found this really frustrating. No fitting rooms. read more
