I went to my first LUX event over 3 years ago. That night changed my life. I met the woman who would be my wife at that White Party and the events organizers birthday. Lux At the Trump Here is a place that I wouldn't have started to attend unless Yelp introduced me to the Lux At the Trump first. It's not in my normal area of hang-outs, it is in Waikiki which some of us dread going into unless we have to and it sounds less than inviting at first blush. We won tickets through Yelp for an event like a Halloween pre-party that sounded interesting. And now I am on a listserver that sends me info emails randomly and sometimes I really am interested in the events and would not have heard about them on my own without being on their email list. Yelp really did a great job of linking IRL music lovers with this venue...... Like with many other places compared to a NY / LA / Chicago club scene- this venue LUX is just way smaller compared to what would be a headliner in other major cities with Lux having hundreds maybe instead of more than thousands at other larger venues. Point being HI is small which can be good or bad. Lux At the Trump is one of the most gorgeous clubs I have ever seen- the pool open in the front is just breathtaking between light shows from the DJ area if just timed right. --- People do have to be careful not to take an unintended dip into cold water when they meant to find the bathroom though. I think I have gone to at least 3 now dance type of nights at Lux At the Trump- all thanks to the emails that I keep getting which I really do like. The music and events are pretty good. It is not a 21 only type of crowd. I don't want to say I was accosted by what appeared to be 2 over 70 year old drunk Japanese tourists that spoke little English or pretended not to speak any but don't be surprised at how varied that age range is compared to an upscale club. Music -wise some of the nights seemed to be better than others. I know it is the DJs job to keep the party going- and if you listen to enough of Jon Taffer you'll hear that great DJs can make songs play that makes everyone want to Dance and enjoy themselves and mix into a song that makes the majority of people subconsciously want to go to the bar for a drink. These djs seemed to be trying to fill the bar way to often by sometimes playing music that some people just hate on what seems to be on purpose. So some can be hit or miss on djs. Overall- in general it tries to cater to tourists but as a side note tourists usually aren't the ones that keep a club in business. So except for big events- IMHO normal locals don't just decide to hang out at Lux At the Trump. So going to events does make it special and why I would go there- not as a normal music/ dance venue. The food there is different- more like a pop up chef venue with really different things instead of a reg burger and fries. But it is without the chef there to explain any 'story' behind the food of a why or make sense of it. So you may get pumpkin sushi in October or whatnot but at least they have a good description of the food before you order - just be ready for bites instead of meals. read more

So I was pretty stoked to be able to come here. I didn't realize it was just entry tickets. It didn't spend money on drinks and I didn't eat. When I got there I went to the valet. He told me I wasn't on the special "guest list" and I would have to park somewhere else. I told him I'm not parking my Z elsewhere and does money talk? He asked what I was talking about and I gave him $20. He was pretty happy with that. So let's rate the place. It's not so upsetting to be 1 star but I definitely won't come back so it's a 2. 1 My home system cranks louder with 18" and 12"'subs, lasers, leds, strobes and smoke machines. 2 It's outdoor so the environment was pretty hot. 3 It's tying hard to be high end. There were not much seating and I heard some of the tables were $800. There was a lot of nice skin showing. 4 I love to dance and can do so to practically any music. The DJ was so so. But it was early so we'll see. I don't think I'll ever come again even if Paul sends me free tickets or whatever. It was just not my thing. I had fun dancing though. I enjoyed getting in Beach Bum videos and Honolulu Magazine photos. read more

I don't really know what I was expecting... probably like a nice high end party... but it wasn't. First and foremost... it's HOT. They need to put in portable AC units or something because when I feel sticky, I don't feel so "nice and high end". I think service could have been stepped up a bit too considering you're paying high end prices for the drinks. Maybe it was just an off night... LUX at The Trump is always a great gathering of great people. Paul hosts only quality parties so if he's hosting it, then that means you should go. This is a gorgeous venue with a lot of potential for special events and parties. I attended the "Yelloween" party at Lux and while the actual party itself was not that great, I think the venue is quite nice. The view of the Friday night fireworks is great. So how to review Lux At the Trump? I think best way to go is describe the venue and leave the disappointing party out of it. I believe they are two separate things. The outdoor space is really nice but there was little breeze and everyone was in costume so it got pretty hot up there. The DJ was pretty good and the vibe was chill. The bar was underwhelming, however, as they only had the basics and we took our drinks in plastic cups. Oh no, not ok. If I am going to pay $8 for a watery G&T, it should at least be in glass. This is not the beach. Was this situation due to the party or is this how they always serve? I do not know. At some other party, perhaps there would be waiters with food and drinks milling about. That is the type of party that would work well here. But the way this was set up, it just fell short of being fun and seems to not have used the place to its full potential. The promoter was a really nice guy and clearly wanted us to have a good time and rate the place highly. I am sorry I can not give it more than three stars. But I do think the place is nice and were I putting on a fancy party, I might give it a second look. read more

It's always well organized and even though there's hundreds of people, no stress, no bad mood, just aloha. It's hard not to meet anybody you know. Everybody's there and enjoying themselves. Being born and raised in Hawaii, I live in the proverbial board shorts and slippers that most locals sport for daily activity. Fortunately, there's no shortage of venues in Honolulu that support the "no shirt, no shoes, No Problem!" motto. However, where does one go when they want to class it up a bit? I'm here to tell yelpers everywhere that LUX at the Trump is the answer! LUX at the Trump is not like any other event in Honolulu where you can sneak in with your Converses, jeans, and a polo shirt. All LUX events are black tie optional, and WHY NOT!? On any given night of the week there's hundreds of other places I can go in my T-shirt and Kicks. I like the fact that LUX gives me the option to dust off my tie and dress shoes and hang out with a classy bunch of people. One other thing I appreciate about the event is that they look for new unique things to do at each event. Grey Goose Cherry Noir launch party, photo kiosks that post directly to your Facebook, fashion shows, red carpet with photographers, different suggested drinks of the night. Paul and Echo, the hosts of this event, are constantly trying to one up themselves to plan a bigger and better event each time. I would definitely recommend checking out this event! read more

The events at Lux at the Trump are higher end and definitely something different to do on weekends. The drinks are pricey but the atmosphere and the scene is not your typical "Hawaii Club/Bar" scene. I enjoyed myself because of this. It's sometimes nice to enjoy a different scene. The food isn't anything GRAND....just something good to snack on if you need to but I would actually recommend eating elsewhere. The food is "pupu" size and $10 a plate regardless of what you order. Overall, it's not the drinks or the food that bring you back, it's really the scene. read more

Location, Location, Location. Attended the Trick Or Treat At The Trump Yelloween Party at the Lux. It was dressed to impress, with a very strict dress code - or Halloween costumes. Since we were still assembling our Halloween costumes, we thought we would be fancy and dress to impress! We arrived early after realizing how convenient the parking is at Fort DeRussy. We had no problem finding the Lux because the Trump Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful! We arrived at the Lux venue a few minutes early and waited in the lobby for the bar to open. We didn't really know what to expect. Once the doors were open and we were checked in, Paul (the host) escorted us to the lanai and showed us THE premiere spot for watching the Friday night fireworks. That was the only highlight of the night. As the party progress, we were wondering what we were missing. Were we too early? Perhaps. We grabbed a few drinks at the bar, which was limited and cash only on one side. Also, there was food available for purchase but was not very veggie friendly. I really enjoyed how organized the event was. Paul (the promoter) sent out tons of information via email prior to the event regarding the food, parking, etc. He was on it and wanted to make sure everyone knew there was food available and he was excited to see everyone. read more

Last night was my first time at the Trump Tower., specifically for the "Yelloween" Party. Snazzy digs, I'd say! In the lobby, our group was slightly confused to where it was in the beginning. There were no distinct signs pointing to Lux, but once we finally saw some costume goers going into the elevator, we knew they were going to be at the party. The hallway leading to the dance areas is somwhat narrow and stuffy. Considering that when you walk through, however, you're invited to an open-aired space that's sure to make you feel like you're on cloud 9. General surveying of the area, I can see that it's a mix of elegance and relaxation. Elegance because of the beautiful views of the Waikiki skyline, and relaxation because of the infinity pool as the edge of the balcony. Added that there were people dressed in playful outfits for the evening, it was still a classy event. Some spots, for no obvious reason, were bursts of humidity. I liken it to the feeling when you're by a vent at laundromat. It's interesting to note for the next time I go and YES there will be a next time. Would've had more time to explore the grounds, but the club is a good precursor to future visits. read more

I enjoyed the LUX a lot. I enjoyed the event "the Great Gatsby" It was super nice to see people in Hawaii not wearing board shorts and tube dresses. It felt like a real red carpet event. Of the 10 LUX events that have been at the Trump, I have been a guest of and attended 8. It has been a fun and unique experience each time. The fashion show models are gorgeous and being able to meet them and hang out with celebrity guests is great. I also enjoy being able to wear a suit or tuxedo, since there are so few places in Hawaii where this is required or even appropriate. Of course there have been a few (very few) negative experiences such as people getting a little too inhebriated and needing to be escorted out, or guests congregating in passage ways...but these are far outweighed by the many many fond memories I have and new friends I've met at the LUX events. I already have tickets for the next event so that speaks volumes. Went to Lux for events in the past. This time went for Valentine's Day Event smart aches to a fundraiser and swimwear/beachwear fashion show. They typically put on a good event for special days and the events have a good number of people attending but you never feel overwhelmed. This is one of a few open air settings to grab drinks and with music. The events are great if you are looking to get away from the under 25 crow and want to dress for a night on the town. Tons of seating alongside both sides of the the venue which offer a nice breeze but not too windy. They even have a larger area on one side, up stairs, with a few more seating areas and sometimes high tops to stand around. The food is nothing to mention. They typically have pre-prepared food for about $10 sitting in chaffing dishes so that's not quite what I would expect from venue at the Trump Tower. Small bites but nothing to really admire for the food; I recommend eating at BLT or other places downstairs instead and coming up for drinks. But then again you are hear for the party and atmosphere. The drinks are moderately priced at about $6 for beer and $8-10 for mixed drinks. Pretty standard for most high need places for Hawaii; and the fact your in Waikiki at an upscale hotel that's fairly decent when there are others that go for $10-15. They use a jigger to pour mixed drinks so you are getting what your supposed to unlike some other bars that you wonder if they put anything inside. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Clean tables and trash quickly and are always around to take orders. Very friendly and were well worth not having to wait in line for drinks. Parking is an issue. Recommend purchasing any VIP pass for parking if possible to make it easy on yourself. Valet without a pass can be upward of $30 according to their site. Fortunately you can also park at the lot across the street. It's great if you are military as they offer cheap parking; non military like myself paid $16 for about $4 hours. Another alternative is to park at the hotel parking for yard house. Just pop in for a drink or get the validation at yard house, Ruth's Chris, or abc store and it's about $6 for 2-3 hours. Definitely for people who want to show off. Not classy or fun just expensive and a 'look at me' show. When you have to charge for a seat or a table it take all the fun out of it. Knowing people paid $500 for a table is sad-are they really that attention hungry? Is it 'I have so much money!' or is it 'I have so much money i have to buy my friends.' Where to start? I don't like to complain and try to make the best but this New Years event borders on being a scam. We paid for a table of 25 and not all our party was let in. We got a small table that seats 4 at best. We were supposed to have two bottles and only got one after finding someone to complain to very late. Lines at the bars were terrible. Never had a chance to gamble since the casino tables were way over packed and not enough. The dance floor was tiny and very crowded and blocking traffic. The coordinators started to shutdown the party at 12:30 am. There is no possible excuse for what happened. Everyone that paid should be refunded or we were all just scammed. read more

Came for the Breast Cancer Awareness event and Fashion Show last week. . . I was expecting a much more "higher" end party. It really wasn't though. . . it was rather sticky out since you are outside. It seemed like I was the only one in a floor length dress even though the website did say "Dress to Impress." The music/DJ was GREAT and I really appreciated the service at the credit card bar. I was really disappointed in how many people came in jeans and t-shirts and no pink. Also, what kind of fashion show was this supposed to be? Great vibe going on but not the fashion I was expecting. I definitely didn't know what to expect as far as that aspect goes. I was hoping to come back for New Year to try again. I think it would be less hot and more people dressing sexy but it's sold out already! :( I just got the e-mail today and tix are gone. read more

New Years at the Trump was awful. First, they charge you a hundred bones to get a ticket with the promise of getting VIP access and some fake money to gamble. We show up and they're just letting everybody in. Not charging or anything. So now we just paid a hundred each for nothing, there is like two or three tiny casino tables for the thousand people that are in there, and there is only two open bars. Both bars were insanely tiny. Imagine a window that is about 4 foot wide that you're trying to get to so you can get a drink.. you and 200 other people. Also, there was supposed to be DJs but the way the layout is set up there kind of makes the music hard to hear anyways. Basically, you're just standing around at an overdressed house party. We were there for almost an hour, never got a drink, never got to gamble, said screw it and found another bar. read more

As an airforce wife, moving to Hawaii was a cultural shock. We enjoy having a good time and the first event we had ever attended was the white party at Lux At The Trump. I love the runway show featuring local businesses and the gorgeous models. The view from the top is impressive and breathtaking. We finally made it to the New Year's Eve Party at The Trump this year! We had a great time - the wait staff was attentive and courteous and the venue and view is simply amazing. There are not many places in Honolulu, where one can go to experience a truly Black Tie event. All the guests were so well dressed! I was invited to a special event (Hatsby) by a dear friend who was the main sponsor (Daeng Moori/909 Skin Studio). The location on the 6th floor was perfect. Everyone was beautiful and the atmosphere was classy. The drinks were typical and expected for this event and location (Belvedere Vodka/Cran = $8). They served food but for one roll of sushi, I felt $10 was too much but it was good! read more
