So glad I finally got to see 'Auana in February 2026 after they were dark when I was last in O'ahu in August 2025. Just know that the theater is by far the smallest Cirque theater I've been in, and I've seen all of their shows in Las Vegas and a few of their travelling shows in San Francisco and Dallas. As far as the show... I will say that Hawai'i in general leans HARD into the "wise indigenous / magical Native" trope to the point it feels self-stereotyping. (See @Itzeaglee on Instagram where he calls out people expecting Native people to act "indigenously.") This trope is central to the show which can feel a bit silly. This Cirque production also seems to lean into the "mystical kūpuna" (which is the Hawaiian version of the "noble savage") stereotype. The show begins with a fake, clueless tourist (actor) who is put to sleep by a native musician (in traditional clothes.) The wise, mystical musician has no need for the tourist's money that he tried to hand him during the show. The tourist actor is awoken and surrounded by smoke as dancers encircle him as the female kūpuna does a Hawaiian chant. He's frightened and tries to flee as the dancers boldly, but free from emotion, spin a canoe paddle during their dance. It segues into a scene where what I assume is Maui's Manaiakalani is thrown into water and as it's pulled up, a curtain drops and shows the Polynesians boating to Hawai'i. The subsequent scenes are centered around different aspects of Hawaiian history, from pre-contact, to the touristy tiki luau influx, to modern beach & street culture. Overall, I think it's most comparable to the Cirque show Mad Apple, which has a New York City theme and plays in Las Vegas. I like the cohesive theme and the clear narrative throughout the performance. The costuming and live music make the show extra special. My favorite part was the woman who made sand painting art. We loved the performance. What a fun evening. The performance kept our interest the entire time. So much talent!

Amazing performance, I highly recommend you make it a point to see this show. Dine early in Waikiki and walk over to enjoy the performance at Outrigger Beachcomber. If you're a fan of Cirque de Soleil then you will know this show is on par.

This show was spectacular! I had a marvelous time! All of the performers are amazing and they keep you entertained the whole entire time! We got seats in the back and it wasn't terrible so I would say every seat gets a good view!

I went into Cirque du Soleil 'Auana in Waikiki expecting incredible performances, but what really impressed me was how thoughtfully Hawaiian culture and storytelling were woven into the production. The artists were unbelievably talented, and the show balanced acrobatics, music, and emotion in a way that felt unique compared to other Cirque productions I've seen. The theater itself is relatively small, which actually works in its favor because there really does not seem to be a bad seat in the house. It also could not be easier to access if you're staying in Waikiki, making it a very convenient night out. I left genuinely impressed and hopeful that this production sticks around for a long time because it feels like such a great fit for Hawaii and for visitors wanting something memorable beyond the beach.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this company has a show in Oahu. I've seen a handful of the ones in Vegas, as well as one in my hometown Sacramento, and am always satisfied with the quality of entertainment they provide, so naturally I got tickets to this one for the last night of my Hawaii trip this year. The ticket I purchased was $86, and I was more in the middle rows off to the left facing the stage. I was told beforehand that the theater wasn't huge so really any seat is a decent seat, and after seeing the show from where I was at, I would agree. While there are parts where I can see the appeal of being aligned to the center, as well as being in the rows closer to the stage (splash zone, performer interaction, etc.), if you're really just there to watch you shouldn't worry about putting up a couple hundred more in ticket costs. Without giving out too many details of the show, I really enjoyed the visuals and the theme that revolved around Hawaiian culture. Costumes, color choice, and all the other artistic decisions really helped make the experience feel intimate and immersive. Like the other Cirque du Soleil shows, they didn't shy away from having the performers walk/run through the aisles and interact with the audience. While the show was 80 minutes long, it did seem like there were slightly less main stunts that were performed, but that wasn't surprising since this show seems more affordable than Vegas offerings. Most of them were impressive, but a couple did seem to have a lot of filler activity. I understand buildup is necessary, and that the performers need room to breathe, but I've developed slightly higher expectations for this brand of shows in particular. Regardless, there were some funny moments that involved bringing who I'm assuming were random guests onstage. If they weren't random, then they did a great job of faking it. This sprinkled between mostly strong acts and with a stunning Hawaiian backdrop really brought forth a strong show for the price. I'd definitely recommend checking this out, especially if you enjoy these shows to begin with. I had a couple of people with me who had never seen a show by Cirque de Soleil and they said they enjoyed it as well.

    Five stars!

Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun) is a well-known name for entertainment. This Canadian company has various shows in Las Vegas, and all over the world, with different themes such as: Mystère, Kà, Michael Jackson: One, O, Viva Elvis, and The Beatles Love. Recently, Honolulu has been blessed to have its own show with a Hawaiian theme in 'Auana In Hawaiian language, 'auana is to roam or wander and - maybe even to explore. All of the dancers, singers, actors, musicians, acrobats, artists, and staff unite to guide the audience through about eight unique sets with colorful backdrops, costumes, and props. There was a comedic break with audience participation and a modern, familiar song! It was a good investment into local talent. I had heard of this production from my friend who wanted me to join her and her children, but I wasn't able to go at the time. This time, my dentist organized a group from our church. She got us a Kama'aina discount for tickets and insisted that we park at the Royal Hawaiian Center where validated parking was $3 per hour. We ended up dining at Royal Hawaiian Center after the show, too! It was nice to see such a professionally run attraction! We had seats in the middle of the relatively small theater where every seat has a great view! My seat was: section 102, row G, seat 10. There were two bars where some of us got bottled water... and a container of flavored popcorn ($10). The restroom was clearly marked. Exiting was streamlined through downstairs restaurants and back hallways. LOL! Overall... a great experience!

We drove to Honolulu on Christmas day for the Cirque du Soleil, "Auana". The Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber is the host site. A celebration of the beauty of Hawaii. The stories of the islands combined with the artistry of the performers and music were captivating. Highly recommended. 26

Fantastic show. The integration of Hawaiian culture and cirque performance was amazing. The sets and staging were beautiful. It's a must see if you are in Waikiki.

    My fav duo.

Amazing! There was always going on and I loved it! It was nice to see the acrobats in action throughout the show and their unique talents. My fav was the two guys from Africa who defied gravity with all the flips! I also liked watching the couple (man and woman I think from Russia) and all the twirls they did. I also really liked the guy who did a whole balancing act on several cylinders. Truly, I can go on and on! It was a great show!

We are big fans of Cirque Du Soleil and when this appeared in Oahu, it was a must see. It took us over a year to finally get a chance to buy tickets because we only visit the island annually. My kids were so thrilled to see the show. It's one of our favorites as this Cirque du Soleil is quite different compared to the others we have seen. The acrobats, dancers, and stunts collaborated into the ancient history of Hawaiian culture which tells such a beautiful story. The dancers danced with elegance as they transitioned to different acts. Our eyes widened and jaws dropped as each performer wow us with their talents. I kind of prefer this over a luau to be honest just because it was so enticing to watch and unique activity to do. There are drinks, refreshments, and food you can purchase before the show to enjoy. I ordered some cheese garlic popcorn for the kids. It was so yummy with good flavor. Really good options on the menu especially for the adult drinks. If you are in Hawai'i purchase some tickets for this great show. You won't be disappointed. Worth every penny!

Cirque du Soleil 'Auana was such a great experience. The concierge at our hotel had offered us tickets to this event at our check in, and I am so glad we were able to see the show. I had been to other Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas, but the 'Auana show was so beautiful and represented the Polynesian culture and Hawaiian values. The show had us captivated and in awe more often than not. I caught myself saying "WOW that was soo cool" more than I expected to. In comparison to the previous Cirque show I saw, this one was so much more captivating. The show was hosted at the Outrigger Beachcomber Waikiki, the staff was great with queuing the crowd. "Auana had a photo booth upon entry where a photographer would take your photo and they would print and offer you digital copies immediately after taking your photos. They are a little pricey but they are excellent quality photos. Once you get through the ticketing que, you are sent upstairs where they queued us until they were ready to open door for seating. There are 2 bars you can order snacks/drinks from during this time. We ordered some Mahi Thai's and proceeded into the theater to find our seats. We were sat in 203 GG which was the last row in the theater but was still amazing view of the show. I honestly enjoyed being closer to the back of the theater because you can see the stage & the performers that are in the aisles or on trapeze type apparatuses in the audience. During one portion of the show, dancers with suitcases were out in the audience, and I was lei'd with the flower lei from the show. Being involved made this show pop to me, I loved that aspect of multiple dancers in the audience providing leis to a handful of guests. I really enjoyed this show, and I am so thankful we were able to go and see this performance. If you are thinking about going to see it, just do it. It is well worth it.

I WOULD GIVE INFINITY STARS TO THIS EPICALLY THRILLING. ENTERTAINING, FUNNY AND POWERFULLY TOUCHING PRODUCTION. I have been lucky to see many Cirque productions but wow. Wow WOW. 'Auana serves as an incredible blend of both honoring the Hawaiian tradition but also combining the physical feats of acrobatic wonder thad Cirque has been known for. I happened to be in Oahu for a weekend and grabbed a last minute ticket (which tip, could have last minute discounts on tickets available, I was able to score 30% off my ticket). The Outrigger Beachcomber hotel transformed its second floor to accommodate this theater (less than 800 seats, generally everywhere is a good view but sitting further back you can see everything as cast members get spread throughout). It was captivating and magical. You get taken on a journey and they masterfully weave in traditional Hawaiian dance, song and music to heart-stopping and well-timed performances. Not knowing what to expect I found myself getting emotional quite early on as I love the Hawaiian culture and tradition, I appreciated how they honored this with the right amount of spectacle that you can expect from cirque. I don't want to give too much away but you will find yourself in absolute wonder feeling like a kid again but also on the edge of your seat as the performers are incredibly skilled making you gasp at their feats of adventure and skill. The person next to me said (and I agree) I can't wait to see it again. This will easily become something I can go see every time I visit Oahu. I sat in section 201 Row D seat 3 for reference.

It's not in my normal area of hang-outs, it is in Waikiki which some of us dread going into unless we have to and it sounds less than inviting at first blush. We won tickets through Yelp for an event like a Halloween pre-party that sounded interesting. And now I am on a listserver that sends me info emails randomly and sometimes I really am interested in the events and would not have heard about them on my own without being on their email list. Yelp really did a great job of linking IRL music lovers with this venue...... Like with many other places compared to a NY / LA / Chicago club scene- this venue LUX is just way smaller compared to what would be a headliner in other major cities with Lux having hundreds maybe instead of more than thousands at other larger venues. Point being HI is small which can be good or bad. Lux At the Trump is one of the most gorgeous clubs I have ever seen- the pool open in the front is just breathtaking between light shows from the DJ area if just timed right. --- People do have to be careful not to take an unintended dip into cold water when they meant to find the bathroom though. I think I have gone to at least 3 now dance type of nights at Lux At the Trump- all thanks to the emails that I keep getting which I really do like. The music and events are pretty good. It is not a 21 only type of crowd. I don't want to say I was accosted by what appeared to be 2 over 70 year old drunk Japanese tourists that spoke little English or pretended not to speak any but don't be surprised at how varied that age range is compared to an upscale club. Music -wise some of the nights seemed to be better than others. I know it is the DJs job to keep the party going- and if you listen to enough of Jon Taffer you'll hear that great DJs can make songs play that makes everyone want to Dance and enjoy themselves and mix into a song that makes the majority of people subconsciously want to go to the bar for a drink. These djs seemed to be trying to fill the bar way to often by sometimes playing music that some people just hate on what seems to be on purpose. So some can be hit or miss on djs. Overall- in general it tries to cater to tourists but as a side note tourists usually aren't the ones that keep a club in business. So except for big events- IMHO normal locals don't just decide to hang out at Lux At the Trump. So going to events does make it special and why I would go there- not as a normal music/ dance venue. The food there is different- more like a pop up chef venue with really different things instead of a reg burger and fries. But it is without the chef there to explain any 'story' behind the food of a why or make sense of it. So you may get pumpkin sushi in October or whatnot but at least they have a good description of the food before you order - just be ready for bites instead of meals.

He told me I wasn't on the special "guest list" and I would have to park somewhere else. I told him I'm not parking my Z elsewhere and does money talk? He asked what I was talking about and I gave him $20. He was pretty happy with that. So let's rate the place. It's not so upsetting to be 1 star but I definitely won't come back so it's a 2. 1 My home system cranks louder with 18" and 12"'subs, lasers, leds, strobes and smoke machines. 2 It's outdoor so the environment was pretty hot. 3 It's tying hard to be high end. But it was early so we'll see. I don't think I'll ever come again even if Paul sends me free tickets or whatever. It was just not my thing. I had fun dancing though. I enjoyed getting in Beach Bum videos and Honolulu Magazine photos.

I did not do much research ahead of time. I do not go to luaus because I know there are many issues with them being so exploitative, but I absolutely was trying to approach with an open mind. I'm not sure where to start. Uh. I guess I'll go chronologically. The check in lines were incredibly long so they are not very accessible. There was very little information on the accessibility of the space on their website. We got there early but were told they wouldn't start check in for a while and to go find a place to sit and wait. We weren't warned about the line at all. I'm disabled and so we found a place to sit and watched the line grow and grow. By the time check in started, the line had hundreds of people, so we decided to wait hoping the line would move quickly. But after about 20 minutes passed after check in started, the line did not seem to be shortening at all. We talked to a staff member about us being early and not being able to wait in the line due to being disabled and she told us there's nothing they could do about it. I think we ended up waiting over 40 minutes. When we actually finally got to check in, one of the women recognized us and said they should've helped us from the beginning and was very sweet and apologetic. She gave us some extra drink tickets which was a lovely gesture. As you go in, you are greeted with leis and a photo op. We immediately noticed the garb worn by the staff looked like plastic and fast fashion costuming. The photo op felt strange to us and we declined. But we observed the staff going up to people with the printed photos for purchase. It felt quite money grabby. As we entered the area, there's more plastic. A lot of the decor was made of plastic and felt gimmicky. The ground had artificial grass and there was a wall covered in fake foliage for pictures. We went to the bar to grab drinks and the drink tickets offered you very limited options. I got the Mai tais with my drink tickets, which were only 9 oz and I would guess maybe there was half a shot of rum in each. My friend got some of the mocktails, that they had to pay extra for, and the drinks had like a strange aftertaste we couldn't understand from looking at the ingredient list. They did not want any more after that. We then went to grab dinner from the buffet. I'm vegetarian and so my options were limited. The stir fried noodles had a strange aftertaste as well and I couldn't finish them. I only really enjoyed the Hawaiian rolls with lilikoi butter and the fresh pineapple. My friend agreed there were some weird aftertastes in the food. They eat meat, so they definitely enjoyed more of the food than I did, but they also couldn't finish their plate. By the time we had started eating, we noticed all the cultural activities had closed so sadly we could not really partake in any. When the show started, they created fire on stage to light the torches, which was probably our favorite part of the show. It felt the most authentic. Then, there were performances by the same 4 women and 4 men in different garb to represent different cultures of Oceania. Again, the costuming seemed to be made out of plastic/fast fashion materials. Coconut bras made of shiny plastic and even hula skirts made of colorful tinsel. I felt particularly uncomfortable when I saw the performers do the haka dance with painted on moko, or the traditional tattoos of the Māori people. My friend suggested that some of the performers might be Māori, but based on the hesitancies of the dancers to commit making the faces traditionally seen in the haka made us feel like that probably wasn't the case. We felt immense discomfort at the amount of cultural appropriation we were watching throughout the performances. Beyond that, we noticed that all of the dances were incredibly fast-paced, which isn't aligned with what we understand about a lot of these cultural dances. So everything felt sped up to keep the attention from the audience, which means that some of the more technical aspects of the traditional dances were neglected, and to me, they were noticeable. We also noticed that some of the dancers were struggling to catch their breaths towards the end of the show, which seemed to highlight out how unnecessarily fast paced these performances were. It is clear that the dancers worked very hard and they brought incredible energy to their performances, so I do not have anything but wonderful things to say about them. We ended up leaving early because of our discomfort with how exploitative the experience felt. It is clear that the staff and performers work quite hard to run this event. They are the ones that deserve any stars from this review. The immense issues we observed stem from the people who are making decisions to be as extractive and exploitative as possible.

The museum captures the military contributions of Hawaii through history. The building was formally Battery Randolph, built 1911 to house two large guns to protect Honolulu from water attack. The structure is "military structural" in style, and is said to be typical of Taft era construction. The facility was, unfortunately, ineffective at protecting the Island for the air attack on Pearl Harbor and was later deemed unsuitable for modern warfare and decommissioned. Today, the building is a perfect backdrop to tell the story of the US Army and Hawaii. I signed in when I entered and then was free to move about the museum. The museum starts with a description of Battery Randolph and then moves chronologically with artifacts and stories from early Hawaiian warriors up to modern day US war participation. It was interesting to walk through the rooms and tunnels. Be sure to visit the second floor where Hawaiian service people are recognized and see the helicopter and gun up close. Then follow the tunnel back to the front of the museum. A gift shop offers reasonably priced military themed hats, shirts, Legos, books and much more. Plan about two hours to visit. The facility does provide restroom access for guest. The Museum is walkable from any hotel in Waikiki. The facility is accessible though some floors are uneven.

The museum contains historical artefacts and information from the 1700s to there latest addition being a 2008 US Army military uniform. The museum displays the progression in military equipment and tactics. Overall is a must have for experiencing the progression of warfare. There is a gift shop in the front of the museum, which contains COBI tank models (a Polish toy company, all bricks made in Poland, bricks are better quality than official LEGO all bricks printed no stickers) , hoodies, tee shirts, hats, mugs, bottles, military themed pencil sharpeners, posters, etc. All items are somewhat reasonably priced, only small markup. Overall a great collection of artefacts and a well set up gift shop. A must have for anyone visiting Hawaii, especially those on a budget.

From the moment you pass through the doors, you're surrounded by a blend of old-world elegance and Hawaiian warmth. Built in 1922, the theatre has hosted everything from silent films and Broadway plays to concerts and Hula performances. Today it seats about 1,400 guests, offering an intimate experience where every seat feels close to the stage. The acoustics are excellent, the seats are comfortable, and the staff and volunteers are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. There's also a small bar and lounge with high-tops, perfect for enjoying a drink and conversation before the show. Inside the theater, you see tall, fluted Corinthian-style columns that are richly detailed. The curved arch overhead is decorated with mosaic-style tiles in warm tones, and I absolutely LOVE the lush deep red velvet curtains that frame the stage. They add so much warmth and elegance. Having attended many shows throughout the years, I've always been mesmerized by the mural above the stage and decided to do some Googling while waiting for the show to begin. I learned it's Lionel Walden's Glorification of the Drama. The painting depicts a grand procession of mythic figures -- a golden-robed muse in her chariot, attendants, musicians, a lion handler -- all celebrating the power of theater. The central figure, often interpreted as the Personification of Drama, leads the way. Knowing that part of the mural was once lost to water damage and later painstakingly restored makes it even more meaningful. Parking is easy at the municipal garage on Bethel Street, just a block away. The short walk is now well-lit, a welcome improvement from years past when it was dark and sketchy. Entertaining audiences for over 100 years, the Hawaii Theater is a recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Attending a show here, you're not just watching a performance, you're also living and breathing a beautiful piece of Hawaii's historic culture.

Security did a nice job checking bags, and held my dinner leftovers on an entrance table, as food isn't allowed in the historic theater. It was easily retrieved after the show on the way out;) Restrooms were bright and lines moved quickly. Hot tip: fellow guests said that their $20 drinking glass in a safety cup is refillable at a discount on your next visit (they were enjoying wine, another had pineapple juice). If non alcoholic, that refill is free. Hmmm, we might have to try that next visit!
