Where do I start. Let me start with the trauma and tribulation I had with "5-star" Yelp painters before I finally found Lux Painting. In essence, I actually thought good painters didn't exist and maybe I was the one who had unrealistic expectations for paint to not be splattered on the floors, running over color trims, chemicals dumped in our sink, incomplete and spotty patchwork, poorly sanded surfaces, etc. So when I saw the reviews of Lux, I decided to give a professional company one last chance before attempting the paint my home exterior myself with the help of YouTube. Mike from Lux Painting came out with his wonderful father and they listened to me vent about past painters, showing them some of the botched handiwork during our walkthrough. I actually felt bad that I had to vent so much to the point where I was worried that if I didn't go over every last mistake made by previous painters, I was afraid Lux would make some of the mistakes I failed to mention. I was like a Bachelor contestant venting about past relationships because I was afraid of getting hurt again *sobs*. But I really wanted the outside of the house to look good after what happened to our interior which took me weeks to remedy on my own after thousands of dollars of poopy, poopy quality. Mike listened. And what's more, he told me his plan for precise, detailed painting of the house in greater detail than I even knew I wanted. Mike gave me an explanation on how he would achieve clean lines and sharp borders between the wood trim and body of the walls. It was music to my ears. Some of our wood trim was in bad shape and I asked Mike if he could replace. "We are painters and don't do woodwork. We suggest hiring someone to replace the wood trim and we will paint it for you". Wow! There was something honest and real that Mike wouldn't experiment on my house outside of his trade. Previous painters I'd used would want the extra money and start a non-paint project outside their expertise with disastrous results. Everyone, painting is NOT easy. So having a painter who only does painting is a GOOD thing. Lux was not the cheapest (about three percent higher than the competition) but I didn't want to come home every day to see a lackluster paint job for the next 15 years just to save a couple hundred bucks. So I felt like the quote and walkthrough with Mike was worth it and I accepted. The end result was beyond what I hoped. The photos speak for themselves. The stucco they painted is completely covered in thick, beautiful paint and the lines between the trim and the body walls are razor thin perfect. This made me realize how much of an art painting truly is when it is done right, and also the amount of labor involved in a job done right. When they were done with the job, the only thing I felt bad about was that I didn't have any other paint jobs at the moment! But when I do, Lux is on speed dial and I won't hesitate to call Mike. This review is long overdue. We had Mike and Sam (son and father duo) paint all of the interior walls (except bathrooms), stair risers, and baseboards since we just had our floors redone. They did a fantastic job and worked very quickly- it took them only 4 days to complete (others gave us estimates of at least 5-7 days). Their price was also really reasonable- we had received a really wide range of estimates and theirs was towards the lower end. I really liked the fact that the work wasn't subcontracted out to another team. We had gotten estimates from 5 other companies and none of people we talked to would be doing the actual painting. Also, we didn't realize that painters would be so popular in the Bay Area so we were struggling to find someone who could start as soon as possible. Most companies were booked out until the following month. Luckily, Mike was able to accommodate for us. Additionally, Mike helped us figure out a color for the accent wall and it turned out great- we really love it! If you're curious, the accent wall is Behr Soft Pebble, a purple toned gray that changes throughout the day with lighting. The other walls were Behr Hazelnut Cream. I got several bids for painting our ~1920's single story (but high-walled) home. Lux Painting was competitive, local, responsive, and a "mom & pop" without the franchise overhead. He also had great reviews on Yelp. He did not dissapoint! He was on-time, communicative, had extreme attention to detail, and showed tons of pride in his work. We had a few adjustments along the way (as in color choice changes), and Mike patiently rolled with them, even offering his advice for aesthetics, while leaving it entirely up to us. He then charged the actuals for materials, providing all of the reciepts, using his Home Depot contractor discount. His material estimate was right in line with what the actuals were. He was very courteous, very considerate about items and getting them moved, very well organized in keeping the place clean and work area sealed. My best experience with Yelp to date. Most of the time with Yelp, you never really know what you're going to get. Not with Mike and Lux Painting. I pinged Mike on a Thursday, he provided an immediate quote that was reasonable that day. Comes out Saturday between jobs and does everything a great painter should do - grabs the paints we want and does a quick color match, paints with perfection the rooms asked for. But then things start going off the rails and Mike/Lux really step up. The color matched paints are crap. So he starts playing the role of colorist with my wife, has no issue with painting out 9 sample colors in one room to make sure we like the color and waits for us to fill the order of the paint that we really want. Through it all, he doesn't adjust his original quote, stays busy on some other parts of the project and waits for me to get the final paints. He does the final room with the paint color that we really want without question. By the end, I'm literally asking how much more we should pay. I want to give him more $$$! In short, a Mike is a real pro, knows things are going to change during the project, but does what it takes to make us supremely happy. Can't recommend his services enough. A true gem! read more

The house itself is over 3,000 sq ft and Mike finished the job in a timely manner, delivering results exceeding our expectations.
