I always loved seeing their flowers as I drove by. I never did stop by, and now I live in Hillsboro. It's not that far of a drive, but I don't drive by very often anymore. Well, I saw a water color painting class event on Facebook being held at Blooming Junction. My sister and I have been really getting into doing water color painting. I signed us both up. I was excited not only for the class, I was really interested in checking out what Blooming Junction had to offer! I'm so glad this opportunity presented itself. Such a lovely nursery, all the plants looked so healthy and well cared for. It's much more than a nursery though. There was a market to buy fresh produce and other sundry items. I was delighted to find Bubbies brand pickles. I find this brand at other stores, but the dill relish has been illusive. I was just thinking to myself this morning while making chickpea salad how I wished I had Bubbies Dill relish..and lo and behold I find it here! So happy! My sister and I strolled around before our class started. Bought a drink in the market to sip on throughout the class. There was a water cooler also in the workshop area. We had fun getting in touch with our creative side! After class ended, we strolled around some more. I ended up getting the Bubbies relish and strawberries. They were so sweet! There are so many things to see besides plants. I am sure I will be back!

I was especially looking forward to the lavender lemonade, it's always been my favorite, but this year it didn't taste like lavender at all. I checked the bottle and saw it was expired (July 2023). When I mentioned it to the staff, they initially told me I was wrong and said it was just mislabeled. But after checking the other bottles, they realized all of them were expired. They even tasted it themselves and admitted it didn't have the lavender flavor it should. The biggest issue was that they just kept selling the expired bottles to other customers. I appreciate that they eventually acknowledged the issue, but I was disappointed with how it was handled and with the overall decline in quality this season. I hope they can get back to the standard they used to have, but for now, I won't be returning.

Nice range of sizes, tho nothing too tall (which is not what I was looking for, so could have been blinded to that) Prices were as advertised online -- $45 for Doug Fir (of which we saw maybe two scrawny specimens) and $60 for the others. Of any size. Plus $5 to bale it up, but their machine did get it nice and compact. What really irked me was that none of the guys working there knew anything about the trees. Couldn't identify the species for us. Didn't get a chance to experience any of the extras like Santa or whatever they might've been selling under their tent, which, again and like the big big trees, was not our reason for the visit.

I live in Portland so I took a little drive there and what a beautiful selection of annuals and perrenials. They have no advertising or signage up, thus when I arrived I thought maybe they were wholesale only. But it's hard to deter me from plants so I marched on in, and the lovely woman who greeted me was friendly and helpful as could be, confirming they were open to the public and handing off a box to fill with treasures. They also have handy wagons available. The nursery is very large, and every time I thought I'd seen everything the next corner would reveal another greenhouse. I quickly filled a box with herbs of every sort, then another with healthy perennials, strawberries, and even a mix of daffodils and narcissus. Oh, and don't forget they have houseplants! I got so much good stuff, but a few favorite finds were peonies, bleeding hearts, astilbe, purple basil, salad burnet, Vietnamese coriander, lemon verbena, Labrador violets, eucalyptus, hardy ferns, and lantana. They are cash or check only, so come prepared. It's worth going a little (or a lot!) out of your way if you usually only utilize card payments. The prices are eminently reasonable, and they even offer discounts on flats. Oh, and they are well known for their fabulous hanging baskets!

Now that I'm in Oregon I have a whole new world of plant options to grow and decided a 70 mile trip to Joy Creek would be worthwhile. I saw in the Oregonian that this plant nursery offers informative classes and get-together all summer long. I attended one last Sunday , 8/22/18, about Hydrangeas, learned a ton and got a guided tour of the display gardens featuring some breathtaking specimens. It was the best way to see what plants will look if well cared for when they are mature. Wanting to practice "right plant, right place", I was able to identify some that would do well in the more sun drenched locations of my garden and see how the 10 different hydrangeas I ordered and installed in shade areas last fall would/should do. I've included some photos from Joy Creek's display garden here with their popular names (I did my best!) and picked up many treasures to install. Our Joy Creek guide (?co-owner Maurice Horn) was wonderful and stuck around to answer questions after the tour. All the staff were generous with information and delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies and lemonade were offered to the class attendees. I recommend you visit during blooming season of your favorite plants but I have used their website for most of my mail order purchases over the years. The information provided there is very helpful in making selections and shipping and handling has always been more than reasonable. Joy Creek Nursery is definitely a treasure for those looking for out-of-the-ordinary plant material and a 5 Star experience for me.
