It's tough to come up with a 40th birthday gift for an estranged spouse. These days, the only thing we have in common is our children, so it seemed fitting to include them somehow. In a rare moment of clarity, I found a way to get this done, give business to a worthy photographer ( ahem, and friend) at the same time. I posed the idea to Tom, to do a photo shoot of my kids as a present for my wife and his energy and enthusiasm made me immediately think I made the right choice. We discussed locations and concepts based on what I had seen of his work. Tom had some fantastic ideas and was very receptive to my own ideas. Tom feels that the comfort of the subjects is important, so we decided to do an outdoor shoot at the park in the neighborhood where they grew up. The day came and although Tom had nothing to do with the weather, I couldn't help but feel that with the most beautiful fall day I'd ever seen, Tom has an in with Mother Nature. The shoot went flawlessly. He worked great with usually difficult kids and I could tell they felt at ease. My kids are into cosplay, where they like to dress up as their favorite characters. They loved that Tom incorporated their costumes into the shoot and couldn't wait for the pictures. And what pictures they were. I've never seen my kids look so good. The shots were classy, true and fun. I am more than pleased with the results and they were a big hit with everyone who got one. Tom uses an easy method for getting you your pics. He sets up a web page where you can view all shots and order them however you wish ( mugs, cards, photos, digital, etc) . With one click, a picture will be in your hands within hours. The overall experience with Tom, was one that I can't say enough good things about. From our first meeting I was very comfortable working with her. She has the kind of personality that is professional, yet very friendly and approachable. She came to our apartment for our first consultation and patiently listened to all of my preferences for photo's that I was most interested in having captured on our special day. The day of the wedding she was absolutely great! She met up with my husband and his groomsmen and took a bunch of great shots of their group. It was a perfect mixture of candid, serious, and funny/casual poses. Before the wedding while I was getting ready, she was great at running between where my bridal party was getting ready and where my husband and his groomsmen were, in order to capture as many photo's as possible. The entire day I was completely comfortable and relaxed, knowing she was doing a great job. I think when working with a photographer the most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident with them; and I definitely did with Cassie. It was like Al was inside my brain! He was extremely thorough and asked questions so that he knew what shots were important to us. We had a great time doing our engagement shoot. We had a different photographer lined up…read morefor my son's first birthday party but the weather had other plans and the date had to be changed - unfortunately (or fortunately) it meant we had to find a photographer.... within 24 hours. Kristen to the rescue! Kristen came up on a random google search, promptly responded to my email and I crossed my fingers we ended up with some good photos. I could not have imagined what an absolute joy it was to meet her and what amazing memories she captured! It was a small backyard party but Kristen was so professional and thorough - it mattered as much to her as a huge wedding. She was amazing with the small children and even better with the nervous in front of the camera grandparents! Kristen took pictures of every detail, the "big" moments and more importantly the small moments. Having a baby during covid meant that we missed out on capturing some of his first year with family and friends. Thankfully I know have a TON of amazing photos that bring a huge smile to my face whenever I look at them (which is still quite often).
