The citizen in this video is a bit loud and agitated, BUT, the cops actions of trying to escalate the situation were the reason. I'm guessing with all the cameras the citizen has in his car, he can prove the cops lied for the traffic stop of the citizen. So, if, they did lie to get the traffic stop, then all of the cops (including all cops on scene) were unlawful and criminal on the cops part. If it is proven the cops lied for the stop, they should be fired and charged with violating the citizens rights. I'm guessing some dash and body cam videos from the cops showing the supposed violation will be accidentally deleted if the citizens version is true. Then there's also the 100 feet in the city and 300 feet on the highway for signalling. Not sure which applies in this circumstance as that info isn't discussed in this video. When the first cop got the attitude and threatened to have a gun at the citizens head, it went down hill from there for both sides. The citizen kept his hands in view and explained he wanted a supervisor. If you watch the video closely and evaluate each event, the cops were way off track and doing everything in their power to escalate the situation. But, the citizen, should not have gotten as loud as he did either. I can say, in my opinion, the only reason the citizen didn't get arrested, or likely shot, was his video cameras in his car. The cops had a "get out of jail free card" for themselves in the beginning, once the citizen explained he had cameras that would show he did it within the 300 feet law and the cops say something like "ok, maybe we were in error" and let him go. But they pushed it hard to try and get the citizen on something. Maybe the citizen did violate the 300 feet rule, but only the video will show. But, LVMPD status after the mass shooting and their ever changing story of facts definitely puts doubt in most peoples minds. The numerous videos on YouTube of LVMPD violating peoples rights adds to the doubt of the police in this case too. I've visited Vegas a few times, but, I cant see going back when their department has a documented record on video, many videos, of them violating citizens rights. In todays world, it appears people are more in fear of cops, than trusting in them, which is unfortunate. Some of the problem is people thinking they do no wrong and play the convenient card when called out and accountability is brought into play. Part of it is lack of respect, on both sides in the law enforcement interaction. I'm not anti-cop, I'm anti-bad cop. In this case, even if the citizen was wrong, for sure, it didnt need to go this far by the cops. By law, the only thing the driver has to do is identify himself, a name and date of birth is suffecient (or what ever NV law) says and they can run that while waiting on a supervisor as the citizen requested while a cop on each side observes the citizen until the supervisor arrives. The driver was up front and not hiding anything and told them he had a weapon. But when the cops went into "escalate mode" that turned the citizen into defensive mode and he wanted a supervisor. In central Indiana, where I live, the actions of these cops would likely have had consequences and not tolerated. I called 311 a couple hours ago and spoke to the worst dispatcher in police non emergency dispatching history. I was at the circle K on trop and nellis and when i got into my car to leave, an older African American man walks right up and wips out his "package" and starts taking a piss on the wall that surrounds the dumpsters. He was completely out in the open. My 8 month pregnant fiance is actually who noticed what was happening first. And when I looked at the guy and threw my hands up like "wtf", he started flipping out and cussing like I was in the wrong. As if I'm just supposed to be ok with this dudes twig and berries being out in the open public literally one parking spot away from me and my pregnant fiance. Like wtf right?!?! Good thing my fiance's 6yr old daughter wasn't in the car. When I called 311, the lady barely spoke English so I couldnt understand most of what she said. She then transfers me to dispatch, and I waited on hold for so long that I hung up and called back. When she answered again, I just told her what I saw and what building he went into after, and if she thought someone should look into it then she had all the info to do so. But she starts literally asking me what I wanted her to do?!?! Like she didn't know what she was supposed to do when someone calls in something like that. It was so unbelievably ridiculous that I just said F*ck it and hung up. I had called the Henderson non emergency a week prior and it was a breeze. The guy said he'd send a unit and it was done. I just talked on the phone with Detective Sowers 15002 badge# with the las vegas police dept about a strong arm robbery that took place. The people that got robbed are too scared to come forward as this was a hispanic guy with neck tattoos and most probably affiliated with hispanic gang activity. My company van broke into about 6-10 grand of tools stolen. PD refuses to even take fingerprints and only seems to want to take a report over the phone for insurance purposes.
