On my hunt for the perfect boyfriend, uh, I mean, brownstone with built-in cabinets, wooden floors, octogan-tiled bathroom, and a sink NOT from the 1920s (those are the one-tub, hanging sinks with no counter space), I finally came across my apartment building. But this love story was no easy battle.... I scoured on-line dating sites (ala Craigslist) for hours and decided to get all of my apartment dates done in two days. Yes, that's right. Two days. And twenty-two, three, six apartments later, I had an older, uber nice gentleman by the name of Paul showing me a Baker property apartment. I was completely in L-O-V-E. I mean, I had been through A LOT the last couple of days: 1) I met a lot of men, uh, apartments, that were incredibly small. I literally had to shimmy in between the sink and the stove. So, yes, size dooooes matter. 2) Some of the places had odd layouts. The fridge in the foyer, the stove in the closet, and "oh? you want to put a queen-sized bed here? Yeah, only if you angle it at 83.5 degrees and lean it against the wall." Please, don't be weird. 3) I understand you're only a block from Hennepin, but hrello?! I still have to park eight blocks away, so why don't I just find an apartment eight blocks away? So, yeah, you may look good on the outside and may be popular, but I still gotta work my tush off to get to you - not gonna happen. 4) I walked in to a half-naked girl with head phones on who forgot her apartment was up for show! Okay, whenever there's another girl... and she's half naked, that's an auto "it's over." 5) When I saw the Baker apartment, my heart started fluttering. I saw pictures of our future together. I saw myself building a life with this apartment. I just knew... it was "the one." The next day, I dropped off my application and payment forms. Two days later, I was ready to move in! Everything was just happening so fast. Everything with Baker has been incredible. And ever since my first day as a resident, they have helped me with countless, ditzy things: 1) I couldn't get my stove to fire up. Yes, Nadine, plug it in. 2) My faucet kept leaking under the sink. Yes, Nadine, tighten it up. 3) My door key went missing. Yes, Nadine, changed locks coming right up (and this was at 730 in the morning). They have a five or six properties around the Uptown area with tons of residents. But everytime I've called, they've known exactly which apartment I live in. Creepy? Nah, just nice to know that they actually know their residents. Bottom line, I am in love. Love. Love. Love. Yeah, it's a block up Lake Street. But heck, at least I know there are cops around my hood... like all. the. time.

I've lived here for three years and there have been small issues over the course of my time here - such as the time my car was broken into in the garage and I received no follow up after reporting it to them. But the biggest issue I've encountered has been in the process of moving out. Upon giving my notice, I was informed I would be required to vacate my unit by noon on the final day of my lease but would be required to pay the full amount of rent for that day. When I asked for a couple additional hours to tidy up before turning in my keys I was told that would not be possible and that if I did not turn my keys in by noon I would be charged for an extra day at the increased month to month rate. When I asked for an itemized breakdown of my monthly charges by the hour I was told this was not possible. Live here at your own risk.

He had excellent timing when it came to our requests for repairs, his open communication was very helpful when we needed his assistance for anything or had questions, and he upheld a high integrity when it came to the lease. He is a very humble businessman and runs his properties with strong responsibility. His maintainence vendors were very respectful of our home and willing to work out time slots for repairs in a timely manner. Our property was kept up to date with maintenance repairs (yearly) and state codes. His empathy was clearly shown during our time of financial stress, when he sent a list of community resources and county assistance programs, plus tips on how to file, to help us out. When our German Shepherd passed away, he sent out a sympathy email and gave the ok to get another dog when we were ready with no additional deposit. We truly cannot thank Nick enough for all of his help and his generosity. This rental property was not a regular rental property; it was our home. We look forward to buying a house for him in the near future.

I'm not sure who's idea it was at the organizational level to submit a "final warning slip" to the former African American-Caribbean concierge earlier this year, one week after the garage incident/harassment complaint, however, that was a decision that only a racist organization would make. ...........Long story short, while I was minding my own business browsing on my phone in shared living space, some unknown tenant emerged out of nowhere, walked up to me and demanded I show proof of occupancy right around 5 pm during normal business hours as I was coming home from work. After I informed him that I was a renter, he was not trying hear it. He became very hostile, then stormed off to reported me as the suspicious trespasser in the building to the concierge, who coincidently was an African American woman. Even after the concierge informed the tenant that I was a valid renter, he became increasingly rash, defensive and unapologetic, then escalated the issue to general manager Krystal, VP-Jamie and President Brent Rogers. Several days later, these three decided to submit a final warning slip to the black employee prompting her to quit all because the racist tenant who was harassing me implied that black people made them feel uncomfortable. It's like the organization was more concerned about appeasing the white tenant who committed the offense over my right to walk up and down my apt/shared living space without having to worry about being harassed by these class of futile hero mofos. I'm so glad I haven't had to waste my time working with these type of phony companies that pretend to be so BLM friendly in their brocuhures and shit trying to get black people to move into "their" communities, and when we do, one idiot gets so obsessed and threatened by us that they have to violate our rights to make themselves feel safe, and the organization responds in favor of the offender. On a lighter, brighter note: -The company serves breakfast on Wednesday's. -The apartment complex is close to walking trails. -The elevators were very spacious which offers effortless moving (thank god, it made it easier for me to pack all my belongings and evacuate all in one trip.)

Lawn: The lawn is green and lush after laying seed annually and watering regularly. Pool: Pool area is neatened up every morning. And no alcohol is allowed at the pool so there were no beer cans. And if Roger is in California, how would he see the pool area. Paint: The siding is vinyl - there is no peeling paint. ---- Management can only enforce rules when a resident tells them of an infraction - which is the job of every resident at Bush Terrace based on the governing documents. Great things done lately at Bush Terrace (Minneapolis): Replaced and patched roofs as needed; scaled and cleared most indoor pipes from 3rd floor to the street; replaced huge sewer pipe; replaced parking lot; planted wild flower plot; planted three new pine trees; repainted all parking lot lines; replaced carpet in a building and will continue to replace carpets going forward; repaired all three boilers; replaced front door handles so building are more secure; installed more cameras to total more than 20; painted the garage wall; added internet to the ABC Lounge; purchased CDs for better financial security; and more.
