A thoroughly disappointing tailor. I wanted to use a local tailor to put the needed patches, nametapes, badges etc. on a military uniform. I called them and was told they knew how to do it and regularly handled military and police uniforms. Sounds good! I show up with my uniform, the patches and badges and nametapes, and a printout of the uniform regulation. I carefully explained where everything goes, how everything needs to look, and offered a copy of the requirements. Instead of taking the copy of the regulation, they scribbled down notes on what I explained and pointed out. Okay, well, as long as it's done right. Then, some sewing that should take a couple of hours took two weeks. I had to keep calling and calling and being told it would be done soon. . .waiting weeks for work that should take hours was a bad sign. Then, when I actually get it back, it's all wrong. Completely. Rank insignia turned 90 degrees from the way they're supposed to be, things reversed. . .and I just plain rejected it and told them to re-do it. So, another week of waiting for that to be corrected. Then, I got it back and it looked more right, so I accepted it. . .only to realize once I got it home, they had things wrong in other, more subtle ways, like things that are supposed to be at specific places, as in measured with a ruler "This must be 1.5 inches below this" sort of things, that I'd explained, showed and offered to give a copy of the actual regulation, was sewn in the wrong places and distances. It was more "slap it on in about the right area" instead of carefully measuring to ensure compliance with the standards. . . .and the cost to have those things sewn on was pretty high. I'm no stranger to getting stuff sewn on uniforms, they were charging about twice what I'd have paid if I was going to some sewing place outside the gates of an active duty post (in the future, I'm just driving to Ft. Knox and going to a place there, instead of trying to find a local business, which I also did to take it to a place to have them fix all the errors on the uniform). I'll give them a second star because I think they were sincerely trying, but simply exaggerated their experience with uniforms and their focus is clearly more on altering formal wear than military uniforms, and they were nice and very apologetic about the errors when I pointed them out, but I won't be back. read more

I've been taking clothes here for alterations for years and never had a problem. Mostly I take pants to be hemmed and the prices are reasonable. For these simpler things, I'd recommend Lynn's. There's usually a good two week turn around, but if I can remember to plan ahead, it's no big deal. My mom and I took our dresses for my sisters wedding here and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. My moms dress was COVERED in sequins and beading and they were able to seamlessly (no pun intended) alter her gown. She had the waist shortened, which is no easy task, and it looks perfect. My mom said that she feels so comfortable in her dress now- that's high praise for a formal gown. My dress was hemmed, and it looks flawless. I wish I could give 6 stars. I've been going to Lynn for 10 years: prom dresses, suits and now my wedding dress. She is a master seamstress! I bought my dress at one of the more expensive/elite stores in Pittsburgh, thinking I wouldn't need a lot of alterations, but I was so wrong. The dress was cheaply made, and I was not measured properly. I felt very cheated! Thank goodness for Lynn! She assessed the situation and was honest about how bad it was, but calmed me down and told me she could reconstruct the dress. One month later and my dress is PERFECT. She kept me updated on the status of her work and would not let me come back until she felt the dress was perfect. Lynn is a perfectionist! I'm so relieved that she fixed my wedding dress. This was my first time going to Lynn's for tailoring. I was in a bit of a bind and needed a pair of pants hemmed and the waist/seat taken in by the next day. I called Lynn in the early afternoon and she told me to come in as soon as possible. I drove over within the hour and she made all the necessary markings, advising me of what she planned to do. She was able to have the pants altered in just a few short hours, saving me from looking like an idiot at a very important party. I feel so ripped off by Lynn's tailoring! I went to have a bridesmaid gown altered a few weeks ago, and she told me that the alterations were going to come out to $190 for a hem, tightening the shoulder straps and putting a couple darts in the sides. I was so surprised at that number. When I asked the lady why it was so high, she told me that that is just what it costs and if I went elsewhere they would have charged me more. When I got to the wedding, I asked the other 4 girls what they paid for alterations, and ALL of them paid between $50-$65 for the EXACT same things-- and theirs all looked great! I don't know why Lynn's ripped me off so badly but I will never go there again. read more

Went to get gown hemed all i got was verbal assults by the owner and her seamstress helper basically they tried to blame their mistakes of cutting too much off the gown hem and leaving the lining longer my fault. They said i must of gained weight since last fitting, or that i must be wearing dofferent under garments. Lynn talked to me like i was a child throwing insults at me. I left very angry and unhappy also with a unfinished Gown. I would never go back. BUYER BEWARE ALSO VERY OVERPRICED. read more

I strongly recommend you do not go to this place! I brought my wedding dress because I needed it shortened. Some girl there had me put it on and spent over an hour putting pins in it. She said it would be $125, ready in 2 weeks. Sounded good enough. I put down the required down payment and left. 3 days before I was supposed to pick it up (and really close to the wedding date because I just moved back to Pittsburgh and ordered my dress elsewhere), I received a call from Lynn herself. This girl that put all the pins in made all kinds of mistakes, what I wanted done can't be done, I need to come in immediately and by the way, we are talking at least $300. I cannot even begin to tell you how mad I was. Telling her that she took the job for 125 didn't help, she wouldn't do it. It was too late to go to another place... read more

Ok. So this was my first time ever going to Lynns tailoring. Actually it was my first time ever getting anything tailored and let's just say it was a great experience. So I had picked out this gorgeous prom dress (two piece mermaid) but it was SUPER LONG! The girl at the dress store (one enchanted evening) said that it could get altered and that's what I did. The day I went to get it altered I had met Lynn. She made it quick and simple and pinned everything and even suggested making a bustle so my dress wouldn't drag when I was dancing and that was the best idea. Thanks to her my dress was flowing during pictures but pinned up for dancing the night away. Anyway when I went to see the finished product at Lynn's tailoring, it was absolutely stunning. It fit so well and was beautiful. Yes it was a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Let's just say my prom dress looked awesome and I am definitely coming back next year to get my prom dress altered because let's face it...I'm no 6 foot model. Thank you so much Lynn! Ps. I took 2 suits and several dress pants to Lynn's to get tailored. The hems on the pants turned out fine, but Brenda did a TERRIBLE job on my suit jackets. She took in the sides on one jacket, and now one side is significantly more tapered than the other. The lining is bunched up at the end of the sleeve where she shortened them but didn't adjust the lining of the sleeve. One sleeve is longer than the other. The shoulder pads feel out of alignment and bunched up in places. She tried to lower the collar (remove the bunching on the top area of the back of the suit) but failed to do so after 2 trips. She took 2 beautifully fitting J Crew suit jackets and butchered them. She probably would have fixed all of these errors if I would have pointed them out to her, but I quickly realized after my second visit that she had no idea what she was doing. I just wanted to take my suits and get as far away from there as I could. On top of the shotty alterations of my suit jackets, she managed to iron the collar on my seersucker suit and take out the "pucker" in the fabric. Luckily after steaming and wetting it multiple times I was able to bring back most of the fabric's texture. However, Brenda was nice during my experience. But I would not trust her with my suit jackets. The hems on the pants turned out fine, but the local dry cleaners can put a hem in a pant. Now I have basically wasted $240 in alterations at Lynns and will most likely have to spend another $200 for a more experienced tailor to fix these jackets...if they can be fixed. This business is outrageously overpriced. Unfortunately the prices are not posted anywhere and reading mostly good reviews, I went in with high expectations. She not only did not meet these expectations but I would never recommend this business to anyone. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to be altered and immediately upon putting it on, Lynne told me that I would not be able to wear a strapless bra but insisted that she needed to put cups in. After being told it needed to be taken in, hemmed, cups and straps added, she wrote the receipt for $160. The dress originally only cost $120. Other nearby seamstresses quoted for the same work under $100. No cards are accepted and orders must be paid in cash. All orders can be picked up after 3pm, and on the day I was scheduled to pick the dress up I received a call at 4:00pm. Lynne informed me that she had forgotten to do something and forgotten to add it to my receipt. She told me the balance would be an additional $25 to complete the work I thought I had already paid for. This was an hour after I was told it would be compete. I would definitely not recommend Lynne's services unless you have a lot of extra time and money that you are willing to throw away. read more

do not go here! i took my wedding dress here hoping to get it altered by someone who would take good care of me! that is why i didnt mind paying the 550 dollars to have my dress altered. lynn took on too much work and rushed through my dress. she took it in too far which resulted in my dress ripping. the bottom of my dress had a lace hem which she didnt not sew together and lace was hanging off of it. lynn also told me that my dress was too tight because i had gained weight and it was not her fault. she told me to just not eat for 2 weeks. needless to say i had my dress fixed somewhere else and will never return to this facility! read more
