When I actually went in, the smile matched the voice. Ruth was homely and warm, she actually started on me right away. I appreciate that because some salons will still have you wait just for the fun of it. I LOVE that she asked about my hair care regimen and gave recommendations for different types of conditioners. Also, while putting in the curlers she asked about my hair style preferences , (this is important for the direction of roller placement) When it was time to go under the dryer she offered me reading materials, another plus. I figured she must know how to handle natural curls as well so I agreed to the switch. On the day of the appointment, she was over 30min late for my start time as her first appointment for the day. Luckily I was her only appointment that morning so I didn't have to deal with her juggling multiple delayed starts. She claimed traffic so I gave her the benefit of the doubt that day but if she works there regularly, I would think you would be at most 10min late. Over 30min means you overslept or something more drastic. At the end of the appointment, my hair was silky straight and I was satisfied but after a week of wearing it straight then washing it to go back to curly, ALL of my ends have heat damage. I will now have to cut off half of the length of my hair. I am beyond livid. I have gotten my hair straightened several times a year by multiple people throughout the city over the last 10 yrs and have NEVER had heat damage. I've never had to cut my hair as a result of heat damage like this. What makes it worse is, I went to another salon about 6 weeks earlier for a curly cut to optimize the shape of my wash and go at my length. Now I have to spend another fortune redoing my curly cut. I am so pissed. Yes I was happy with the press but not at this expense. Shan is a very nice person but do NOT go to her for a silk press if you have naturally curly hair. You will regret it. There is another yelp reviewer with a similar experience. I wish I had read it before this appointment.

I saw a "countdown" on Instagram to her vacation that would be around the same time as my service 3 days before my appointment. When I reached out to her inquiring about the appointment I had in place, she said that it was a last minute trip and suggested another stylist in this shop to do my hair (Shan). I've worked on my hair and it's health for nearly 7 years and now need to extensively cut it due to the advisement of this stylist switch. Even with the openness about my hesitations about someone I was unfamiliar with doing my hair, Ashley advised that the stylist she had put into place was up for the job. When I arrived for my service, Shan took forever to service me and even looked overwhelmed at the amount/thickness of hair I had on my head. The assistant was not knowledgable or up to the task for washing or blow drying my hair. I waited hours for the appointment to be completed. While I was satisfied with the service in the end (especially after asking if heat protectant, etc was being used), I did notice that my hair was a lot straighter than usual. I didn't want to think too much of it and went on about my weekend. I washed my hair two days after the service and noticed that my curls were not reverting back. I tried again on Friday in case there was just extra gel in my hair from the style I had worn for the wedding. The last minute stylist swap resulting in the damage of my hair will have lasting effects. Especially with natural clients, it is imperative that the stylist is knowledgeable about natural hair management and in this case, she was not. I have gotten my hair straightened several times across the past seven years and I have NEVER had an issue with my curls reverting back to its natural state. This isn't something I can get back overnight and I will need an extensive cut to try to restore some curls and definition I once had. While those ladies get to continue styling and slaying hair of all textures, I am now left to cut almost half of my hair. Neither one of them even bothered to apologize, which shows the lack on empathy the ladies also have for their clients. One thing I do hope is that they both take this as a learning lesson and never make this mistake again. I'm just so sorry I had to be the example used for this lesson learned. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON AT ALL, SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND HARD WORK ON YOUR HAIR GOING DOWN THE DRAIN.

Renee is amazing - I've never been with one stylist this long!…read more Because there's no salon, the price is reasonable, and Renee is very good at what she does. She has been giving my sons great haircuts for over 3 years, even through the terrible-twos of flipping out in the middle of a hair cut. We feel so comfortable with Renee in our house, that when she walks in we don't even bother to apologize for the mess anymore. She has various specials which you can find on her website. I usually get highlights and/or a cut, and then one of the kid's cuts is free. My sons' hair looks great after Renee cuts it and it grows out nicely; the cuts lasts awhile. She's got a gizmo to put on the kitchen sink to wash out grown-ups hair, and she brings a broom to sweep up after the whole cutting process. In our family, we find that the 7 am appointment is best. Renee starts with my hair, and while it sets, she cuts one or both of the kid's hair while they watch Dora for distraction, and my husband and I feed them and get them dressed. Occasionally we put the boys in the bath right after a cut, because with short hairs, it can get on their neck and bother them. It's so nice to be able to do this right after because we are in our home, not a salon. Then she washes my hair and does a blow-out. My husband gets the kids to school, and I get to work - on time - with great hair! I don't think I've been as loyal to a hair stylist as I am to Renee.

The appointment confirmation listed the time frame as 5:00-5:45 pm, but I decided to allot more than twice that amount of time to ensure that I would make it to my work event at 7:00 that evening. Unfortunately, the start time and timeframe given by the salon turned out to be meaningless. Although I arrived on time, after an initial check in, no one spoke to me for another 45 MINUTES. When I was finally able to speak with Aaliyah's assistant, I asked how long the process would take because I now needed to leave in about an hour. I was then told *for the first time* that all new clients who wanted a silk press needed to receive two preliminary treatments, which each had their own added cost and added 20-30 minute timeframes. As a result, the appointment would take several hours (and cost significantly more). The assistant claimed this information was on the website (more on that later). Needless to say, I could not get my hair done under those circumstances. Not only had the salon wasted my time but it had also left me scrambling to make my hair presentable for the plans I had that evening. Aaliyah may do great hair, I don't know. But this is no way to do business. People with appointments should not be waiting 45 minutes to be seen. And if you are requiring new clients to receive certain treatments in addition to what they have actually requested, state those requirements, timeframes, and costs openly and clearly. Don't bury vague language under a tab people may never even click on (see photos). This way your clients will know what they're signing up for and can plan accordingly.

When I arrive, I realize Imani texts me to CANCEL 20 minutes before our appointment slot. And to top things off, during our text exchange never once apologized. The women who I spoke to in the mini closet of a salon was less than helpful, and acted like 20 minutes was sufficient to cancel; as if I didn't just change my schedule around, and just waste an hour of my time driving for NO REASON. A waste of friggin time and energy. ANNOYED.
