We came on a Wednesday night for a double date. We were seated immediately after being checked by security. Our waitress was super sweet and we put in our food order in at the same time that we ordered our drinks because we had read that food can take a while to come out. My sister enjoyed the fried snapper fish, my husband had the jerk chicken wings and loved them. My brother in law had the lamb chops and enjoyed his as well. I had the salmon and greens with yams. The yams were very sweet so they were not my favorite but the greens were on point! However, the salmon left me disappointed. It was overcooked and rubbery so I sent it back and after waiting another 35-40 minutes our waitress brought out another piece which was also overcooked. She was kind of enough to take it back and offered me mac and cheese. I really enjoyed the macaroni and cheese as a side! Overall, it was a nice date night place. The ambience was really nice and swanky. However, the food does take a while to cook but is overall good, but I am undecided on whether I would come back. read more

Free street parking on this side of Livernois!! It's security and a hostess at the door. The decor is stunning. Two sides. The lounge side has a wall fireplace and tvs and has a intimate vibe. I met a friend for all day happy hour on a Thursday. They had a nice menu to choose from for both happy hour and dinner. We had the happy hour wings special, fried green tomatoes, and green tea cocktail. The food was delicious. I look forward to trying more of their menu. The server was nice. I was visiting Detroit for a wedding and one of my best girlfriends took me out for dinner. She chose this place. When entering the lights were low and they had very nice jazzy music playing. The hostess seated us at a table near the window where I can see the entire restaurant. The hostess and the servers all had a very professional and warm attitude. Everyone seemed to be coupled up. There were not any single people eating alone. Our waitress had a shadow who had just been hired a few days earlier. The menu is very Southern comfort food-ish. So immediately I thought let's go for it! I ordered the fried catfish with greens and fried okra. My girlfriend had the lobster mac and cheese with a side of greens. It's very rare to find a place that has delicious greens. But I guess I had to fly all the way to Michigan because these greens were really delicious. I enjoyed the fried okra as well. The portions of the fried catfish was insane. I literally could only finish one filet out of the three. It had a nice season batter which seem to be a cornmeal mix. I was so pleasantly surprised. I didn't even need to put hot sauce on it. You know it's good catfish when you can eat it cold. And that's what I did 3 hours later when I had my leftovers out of my mini fridge in my hotel room. Oh I almost forgot I have these Lamb chop appetizers with their signature sauce. I'm a big fan of lamb and I wasn't used to having any kind of sauce on it. But the sauce was only on one side so I actually could taste the meat. It was cooked to medium perfection like I asked. The lamb was good. It just needed to be seasoned with salt and pepper. The sauce could have stayed on the side in a ramekin. If I had known that's how I would have ordered it.Parking was probably the only disappointment because we had to park on the residential block behind the restaurant not much lighting. Lyv is a newish restaurant located on Livernois (Ave of Fashion) just south of 8 Mile. Parking is somewhat limited with a small adjacent lot on the side of the building and along the street on the front and other side. First let's start with the ambiance.... the decor in the dining room is classy with murals, gold trim, and chandeliers. There are booths, tables and bar seating. If you turn to the right, there is an opulent looking lounge adorned with black velvet furnishings and gold accents and a gas fireplace along the side of one whole wall. Many nights I've noticed a DJ in the lounge spinning old school R&B tunes. Next on to the service, you are always greeted by a friendly host/hostess at the entrance and guided to your choice of seating. The servers and bartenders are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu always willing to make recommendations. And then there's the food! It is simply delicious. The chef takes pride in preparing traditional soul food dishes sure to please most any palate. There is a late-night menu and Soulfood Sundays on the weekend. The only drawback is that all menu items are not available at all times; so, if you've come to like a particular item that's say available on the happy hour menu, you will have to wait until that time to have that item. I had a very disappointing experience tonight. Before my husband, sister, and I arrived, I called ahead to confirm when the last table was seated. The woman on the phone told me that the last table was taken at 12:30 AM. Based on that information, we arrived around 11:45 PM, assuming we still had plenty of time to sit down and order comfortably. However, immediately after being seated we were rushed to order our food. Our server told us that the kitchen was closing in "two minutes." I explained that I had just called ahead and was told the last table would be seated at 12:30, so I was confused about why we were being rushed. Instead of clarifying the situation politely, the response we received from our server came with noticeable attitude. We asked if we could start by ordering drinks and have her come back for our food order so we could quickly look over the menu since it was our first time dining there. The server left briefly, but when she returned she said her manager told her to go ahead and take our food order right away. Because we had never eaten there before, we felt pressured to rush through the menu and choose something without much time to look it over. To make matters worse, we were informed that they were out of catfish, which was disappointing since that was one of the items we were hoping to try. My sister ordered baked turkey chops, but when her meal came out they were fried instead. When she politely mentioned that the order was incorrect, the response we received again came with attitude, making the situation uncomfortable. At that point, she just kept the meal rather than dealing with further pushback. Unfortunately, the food itself was also very underwhelming. My mac and cheese was watery, and the mashed potatoes were not good at all. My husband ordered chicken wings, which had no seasoning and tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. The service throughout the meal was also very poor. There were no table-side check-ins from our server to ask how the food was or if we needed anything. The only time we received a somewhat decent attitude was when we were finishing up and paying our checks. Overall, the experience felt rushed, unwelcoming, and disappointing, especially since we had called ahead specifically to avoid this type of situation. Tried Lyv on a Sunday around 5 PM. The restaurant was almost empty, so we were seated right away -- that was the only good part. Our food took over 45 minutes, and during the wait, we were asked to move tables for a large party even though the place was still empty, with one side completely empty and available for a large party. When the server finally came back, she said they didn't have the ribs I ordered which were printed on the menu and had given me short ribs instead -- without asking. When I requested a manager, she returned saying, "The manager said you can keep what you have or order something else." The manager never came to the table. My bill was $36.99 plus 18% gratuity and a 3% credit card fee. I was given a $5 credit. Terrible service and zero accountability. I won't be returning. Editing in response to the reply received from the business: St. Louis-style ribs were printed on the menu. Had I known they weren't available, I would have ordered something else. After waiting over 45 minutes (and that's being generous), to then be told they were unavailable--and to have a dish I didn't order brought out instead--is unacceptable. As the owner or manager, had you come to the table, you would have heard my constructive feedback directly: either remove unavailable items from the menu or ensure your staff alerts diners about out-of-stock items before they order, not when the food finally arrives. read more

I believe that the owners are more about the bottom line than the Customers that patronize their business. This is a major mistake. One person in our party got her food 45 minutes before the rest of the party, another person got half of their order 35 minutes before us. We got our alcoholic beverages and food at the same time. My drink never came because Jordan forgot. I ordered from the happy hour menu, catfish sandwich and fries ($10), no bun and asked for my fries to be truffled(+$2) which I've ordered a different time I came. When the bill finally came I was charged $9.99 for truffle fries. Why would I order a side of $10 fries if my whole meal is $10? Jordan has no customer service skills. She never apologized about us waiting 1.5 hours for food/drinks. Just said they only had one bar tender and server. Establishment opened at 3pm we were seated by 3:10 food didn't come out until sometime after 4:30. Service can be poor I guess because gratuity is included. My friend joined after Happy Hour and had a drink. The drink was $18.00 and she was assessed a $1.00 fee for not ordering food. Also, forced gratuity. This was my 2nd time at this establishment. My first time was in June. Went for Sunday dinner. Ordered the Sunday dinner special for $36.99. Included a protein and three sides. Portions were moderate. Charged extra for cornbread and soda refills. Also, had an automatic gratuity charge. Unfortunately, for the server when gratuity is forced they don't receive anything additional no matter how good the service. Credit/Debit card users are also penalized 3%. Big fan of LYV, one of my favorite establishments to frequent. Awesome decor, the owner, Tina exudes class and is very accommodating. The head chef is such a talented a well spoken guy, always enjoy our conversations and of course the food. Soul Food Sundays is such a steal, which includes an entre of your choice and 3 sides for $30! I want to be honest in my review and give feedback on possible cons. I will say that not all the staffs attitudes reflect that of their leadership, some of the younger employees tend to be cold and not as personable. Another con is the automatic gratuity that's added to your bill, I personally don't mind when it comes to this particular establishment and I'm not naive as to why it's added from a business operating in the city. Where do I start first we had reservations for 20 plus people, and at least 40 came ...They had the reservation messed up and booked a party in the same space that we booked so since the owner knew the other people he booted us out to the other side. it took 2 hours for us to get drinks. The wait staff was incompentent and disrespectful. no one offered an apology except the executive chef. the owner was disrespectful and rude. the wait staff had bad attitudes after they were the ones who messed up the reservation so after spending a lot of money in there the food was ok. they add gratutity for horrible service. We arrived at 7pm (had other plans after dinner) and found 2 great seats at the bar (establishment is at 50% capacity this time) The bartender was great she greeted us with drinks and menus ( at this time we are giving each other high fives for the awesome experience to come). WRONG!!! First time here we kept it simple and ordered SIMPLE wings and fries ( bartender accepted the ordered and we ordered more drinks while we waited). One hour past (still no food). No worries we order another round of drinks talk/ laugh and at this point the establishment is close to 30% capacity. Hour 2 past and still no food, at this point we advise the bartender of our disappointment and request to take our order to go, give us the bill and was advised we are 2 tickets down (chef ticket order) and was advised it shloudn't be no more than another 5 minutes. We receive are NOW to go order and the bill (120.00). (no apologies, no explanation, etc). Once home and we unbagged the food (serious disappointment) Wife ordered garlic mash with wings (gave her a spoon full of mash potatoes and 5 of the smalliest wings ever) I ordered wings and fries (5 small wings and eleven fires) YES eleven fries!!!. Until this establishment understand the community its serving they will be closed in a 1 yr/2yr. Don't waste ur money or ur time. Spend ur money at other local restaurants on Livernois. Ambiance very nice and everyone was very nice. We sat at the bar near the open kitchen. We gave the place a three because the food was not portioned correctly compared to the price. The mac and cheese was too dry. The broccoli was more like garnish and too hard. I received one beef spare rub it was okay but not hot. The fries not hot and steak bites 20 bucks for a small portion. Lastly the cooks should wear gloves. I noticed all 3 had no gloves but handling food. I would probably come back for the lounge and maybe try something different if the cooks start wearing gloves. Advice correct the portion for some of the items. Or lower the price for small portions. We dine out all often and we don't mind paying for good food and our dollars worth. read more

Terrible experience. Waited in line in the cold for an hour. There was no communication with the doorman. We were advised he was waiting on a signal from the owner to allow people in. When we finally gained entrance we sat at a dirty table for about 30 minutes before we were able to get someone to wipe the table. We were then provided a menu an advised it was only nightlife options available meaning bar food. We sat contemplating are next move we realized we had not even received water and no waitress had addressed us. So we left and will never return. read more

Our first dining experience at Lyv was very nice. The hostess was welcoming and made sure we sat where we were most comfortable. The cocktails were good, although on the sweet side for my taste. The food was a 10/10, which is the reason for the five stars. I had the short rib which was a generous portion, melt-in-your-mouth tender and very well-seasoned. Yummm! The mac was excellent and the broccoli (which was really broccolini) was the most flavorful broccoli I've ever had at a restaurant. My husband had the Cajun Tuscan Pasta which was really good. The only ding is that the waitstaff was really lacking. They didn't check in on us and that was disappointing. If we needed something (more water, the bill), we had to flag our server down. It could be the included gratuity that makes the waitstaff not try hard because they don't "have" to. But they really need to step it up, as the hostess, ambiance and food were all on point!
