M & A Lakeside Markets is well stocked in convienence items, sodas, wines, beers, and some microbrews. the pricing may be a bit high though. chalk this up to to prime retail space near the lake. most beers unpriced buys: "eye of the hawk" ipa (5.54 out the door) -unpriced, similiar beer $4 out the door on telegraph. location, location, location. notes: -3 stars for convienence, 2 stars for pricing -fast, friendly, service. -lotto too. read more

Sometimes the clientle of a place can severly affect the rating of the location. This liquor store is the latest open in the area and shares a wall with The Ruby Room so of course there are always more than a few drunks "shopping" there. And last night was no exception. As my puppy and I approached along 14th street I could see 3 extremely drunk thuggish types urinating in unison on the wall and sidewalk with no attempt to hide their jewels. I slowed my walk to a tip toe hoping they'd hurry up and finish so I wouldn't have to deal with it as I walked past. 2 of the 3 finished but one of them was a marathon pisser and no matter how slow I moved I was getting closer. At long last he finished and began zipping up just as I walked past him into the entrance of the store. He stopped buttoning up, grabbed my arm and said "yo look, come here and talk to me for a min" YUCK!!!! I've now been pulled cloese enough that both my dog and my feet are in a piss puddle. WTF!!! I freaked, told him how nasty he was much to the delighted humor of his friends, glared at the employee who was outside smoking, watching the whole thing happen without making any attempt to stop it, I gave them 2 stars for their late night hours and for the nice super young cashier that works late most nights. He's always nice and polite to me. But they need to get the people that hang out there under some control because some variation of this event happens every time I go there, whether or not my boyfriend is with me. read more

Microbrews, a totally decent last-minute-dinner-party wine selection and a random selection of liquor store food where I can always find something my drunk self will want to eat. It's not the best liquor store/bodega deal in the world (um, that'd be http://www.yelp.com/biz/nicks-super-market-san-francisco) but the neighborhood is lucky to have it. My bf and I frequent this market often, as we live directly around the corner, and it's usually open till at least 1:20AM. If we need to buy alcohol, we drive down Grand to the liquor store on the left with the big YELLOW sign, where they will always sell right up to 2:00AM (convenient for a convenience store, eh?). In any event, this store used to be safe and orderly, with many more products available for purchase, and a man named Abdul behind the counter who would TCOB whenever things got too rowdy in there, which happens with some regularity, let's get real. Unfortunately, the owner fired Abdul and now the place has cops surrounding it on a regular basis, the store owners look timid, and the store frequently remains closed while there are lengthy investigations. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful that no one has been hurt (at least not that I know of), but I'd have to say that this was the all time WORST business decision I've ever witnessed in my life- (and I listen to the earnings calls of several of the worlds top CEO's with regularity). If you guys can get him back, you'll be humbly righting a wrong that will result in higher profits and a longer shelf life- if not, or it's too late...I'd put out an ad, because you're going downhill- and Abdul Just may not come back. read more

UPDATE 12/24/2013: A few weeks ago (I should have changed this by now) I went into the store and the "Boss" was there. he told me that "other guy" was fired, because he didn't fit into the culture of the area and customers coming in. Also, he was using his boss's name instead of making up his own fake name! Yes folks - this guy was telling people his name was Abraham - Abraham was his boss! How STUPID was that??? So anyway, things are back to normal in he store and once again its a pleasure to go there - so 5 stars... now if we can get lottery in there... EVERYTHING BELOW IS OLD STUFF -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm editing this review and giving them a higher score because I haven't seen Abraham in a while and hopefully I won't see him anymore. My young friend is back from Yemen and not a second too soon! I love this place in every way except for dealing with that person who dragged the place down to 1 star, so now that he is gone I put it back to 5 stars. Please don't make me change this again! Its a great place, good people, okay prices and a definite mainstay in the area. Too bad they don't have the lottery, but that's okay its still a good place to go. UPDATE: I have to stand by my first review and remove stars. Today i was on my merry way, wandering in the store after not seeing Abrahole for a while, thinking that there was no place for him since the other young man came back from Yemen. I was looking at the drinks and I felt a hateful, dark presence brooding behind the counter. I turned and thought - oh, no... tell me he isn't STILL here... To my deep despair, it WAS him. Lurking like Mr. Smeagle - Golem - from Lord of The RIngs.... Not only was he there - he had the audacity to say something to me. "Hey, you write about me on the internet!". "I saw it, you write about me...". I paid him no attention and started out of the store. He added - "I don't give a f***!"... "Why you write that?"... I thought, If he doesn't give a f***, why does he care to know why I wrote it? If you don't give a f***, that means you could care less... But enough about his flawed logic... I told him, I didn't write about YOU, I wrote about someone named Abraham, and that is NOT YOUR NAME (it isn't his name, that's a name he tells people (lies). I asked his co-workers and boss about "Abraham" and they didn't know who I was talking about until I gave a detailed description. They also told me his real name. That's one more "shady point" for him...). At that point I just left him and his foul mouth in the store by themselves (the man only knows like 20 English words and f*** happens to be one of them... pathetic). So I am going to have to re-cant my earlier happiness and take those stars away - until Abrahole either changes his nasty attitude or is gone. Good guys. Always friendly and willing to turn my $5 bills in lots of quarters for laundry. I've seen them deal with dozens of drunks, crazies and meth heads and they always keep their cool. read more

Prices can be a little jarring, but I guess that's what you expect for liquor stores downtown and not Bev-Mo. But they have a nice selection of microbrews for such a little store. I have to commend them on that. read more

The guy who works here most nights is super nice and I find that this store has more variety and selection than Lakeside Market (not affiliated) that I will walk the extra block to go here instead. That they're open until midnight on weekends helps, too. read more

Stayed in the area and they are it! Better beer selection than a small hippie town or an upscale healthfood store! You go guys!
