I recently bought a house with a nice 25' x 12' rectangular pool that is 10 feet deep. I was thrilled! The only thing that bothered me was the gross black and blue stains on the sides and bottom of the pool. After some research, I came to the conclusion that an acid wash would be in order. I read through at least 100 reviews across more than a dozen pool service companies, and decided to give Jose at M & J Pool & Spa Service a call. Man, I am THRILLED that I did. Jose dropped by at the agreed upon time. He was very friendly, almost like having a personal friend come over. He tested the water and explained his findings in great detail. He also informed as to what was causing the stains in the first place. After feeling the plaster, Jose agreed that an acid would would be needed to achieve the desired results. The next morning, Jose texted me when he would be available to do the acid wash, and how much it would be. He included exactly what he would be doing including the pool draining. I agreed, and on the upon date he and his men showed up and started working. His men were friendly, and hard working, and it was a HOT day. In a few hours I got a knock on my back door and Jose showed me the results. WOW! Night and Day!!! The black stains were gone, and so were the blue stains (caused by copper pipes). It looks so great now. After the pool was full he dropped by and treated the pool with chemicals. Not only that, he told me about a couple of locations where I can buy discount chemicals, and assured me I would be capable of treating my own pool like I told him I wanted to do. That impressed me! I am in the process of having Jose upgrade the pool light to a modern multi-color light, and will contact him for any pool upgrades, or problems that may arise. Jose is phenomenal! Jose Banos, the owner of M & J Pool & Spa Service deserves 20 stars! Our pool has never been judiciously taken care of like Jose does. Our previous pool service person only did what he wanted to do which was below minimal, even though we exchanged many conversations. Jose is professional and always goes the extra mile to keep not only our pool sparkling clean but equipment running smoothly. Two weeks ago, during the epic storm in California, our iAquaLink system lost power. Jose came on Sunday! To assess the problem. Immediately, he knew that the pump motor must have tripped the power. He took the motor with him to have it checked. Jose also noticed that most of all the connections were not completely covered and remedied that deficit. On Monday, he called us to tell us the motor was fine but two parts had to be replaced. On Thursday, Jose arrived and reinstalled the motor and checked all connections once again. We went to our fuse box, flipped the switches three times and screams of joy from both of us as the iAqualink system powered on! Then, Jose cleaned our pool!!! The pump for my pool was leaking pretty bad. I requested an appointment for M & J Pool & Spa Service to come out and do an estimate for the repairs. Jose contacted me and although he was really busy he ask that I send him a video of the problem and he could analyze and determine what the problem was by reviewing the video. Once I sent it he immediate knew what was wrong. He gave me a fair quote and ordered the parts necessary to fix the issue. When he arrived he notice that the part he had purchase was the incorrect part number yet he proceeded to temporarily fix the leak(it was a gasket that had gone bad and an "O" ring).He put a bunch of silicon to stop the leak. Several days later he came back with the appropriate gasket and permanently fixed the leak. Jose is an honest business man which is hard to find these days. His background is in commercial pooIs and he's been doing it for quite some time. I reached out to a local vendor as well and they were going to charge me $165 just for the visit alone. Total cost for the repairs from M & J Pool & Spa Service was $107. Jose saved me a bunch of money! His assessment of the problem and work was timely and accurate. I explained to Jose that I have more work to be done on my pool equipment and I am only going to use his company exclusively. I needed my filter cleaned and serviced and our pool person moved out of state. Went to yelp and found Jose. He was ready to come over that afternoon but I wasn't there, so he came the next day. Cleaned the filter and cleaned the entire equipment area. I didn't ask. He was bothered by some algae in the spa and went back to his truck to test the water and advised what to do. He then decided to add some chemicals and brushed the spa. It was sparking within an hour. Jose, while he was there of course, offered a good price on a regular service. We have taken care of the spa for years and have always struggled with getting the chemicals right and constantly brushing the algae. What can I say, Jose is amazing. Just 4 days ago our pool was a swamp getting worse everyday there was algae everywhere. Our former pool man had neglected it so badly even though he'd been coming weekly. When the algae got so bad that we had to look for someone else I checked yelp and asked friends for recommendations . although I found rave reviews about Jose here on yelp, I still wanted get estimates from several other pool since we where burned by our regular pool man I didn't I want to take any chances. Jose was the only one to show up with a full treatment kit tested the water for both chlorine and conditioning let me know there was 0 chlorine in the pool and gave us a fair price to bring the pool back to swimming condition. It had been at least 2 weeks since we had been able to use our pools and in just 2 days of him coming and scrubbing and vacuuming the walls then treating the pool it looks amazing. I have to admit it actually looks better then it ever did before. Needless to say Jose will be our pool man from now on. Oh and I forgot to mention after he spent 4 or 5 hrs scrubbing all the algae out of the pool he texted early the next day to find out how it looked then showed up this morning " Saturday" to scrub and treat the last few spots. My old pool guy never even returned a text!!! You can tell that Jose really takes pride in his work. We are so blessed to have found him. And great news, and he takes clients everywhere!!! Thank you, Jose! Due to neglect from our regular pool service, our pool started going green. I called our pool service to fix the problem. By the third day of growing algae, I called again and was told they had come out two days in a row to treat the pool with chemicals and would be coming the next day to clean the pool. Really? Too little, too late. I found Jose on Yelp. He came out the same day, tested the chemical levels and determined that the chlorine was 0 and conditioner over 1000 - total breeding ground for algae. Jose recommended that we drain our pool and start fresh. That seemed a little drastic so we took a water sample to Leslie. They told us the same thing and said that we would spend far more in chemicals down the road trying to maintain already contaminated water. Jose came and hooked up a drain line. He came back the next day and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed. Not only did he get all the algae, he also cleaned the pool of calcium deposits, another by-product of poor pool service. After we filled the pool, Jose returned for the third day in a row to adjust the chemicals and clean the filter. The filter was extremely dirty despite the fact I had just paid the prior service for summer cleaning. Today, Jose came for the 4th day in a row to check on the pool. The pool looks great and is ready for swimming. Oh, and Jose did all of this for a very reasonable price. Needless to say, he is our new pool guy and I highly recommend him. read more

What can I say about Jose? Well first off, he insisted on cash only. When I ask about his license he comes back with admitting lack there of - but we assume he's a good guy so we continue the agreement which prices continued to change from $1,200 installation only to $1,200 installation plus tiles all the way to $1,500. We agree to the $1,500 and then when they come his brother-in-law not only comes late, after 12:30 but decides to add $450 extra for another equipment addition. GET THIS... for work they did not even finish! They insist on the money after 4.5 hours of work when they didn't even finish the agreed upon service not even half. We give them a check for $600 and request they come back tomorrow, to finish and they will get the rest of the pay. They don't come back... surprise! This is exactly why we pay when work is DONE. Oh but he does come back about 2 weeks later because the check was put on the wrong name - M & J Pools (which is unlicensed do there is no account aka he could not cash check) -and he needed a new one written to none other than Jose Banos. Even worse, he comes to the property unannounced. When I tell him we will fix the problem and mail the check to the proper name he tells our electricians in Spanish "This idiot gave me a bad check". Maybe have your workers make sure the check is written correctly and the guera is a light skinned Mexican so yes I understood you very well Mr. Banos. read more
