These highway robbers are located right across the highway from the Troop D station and have quite the operation. They didn't just overcharge us; they damaged the car worse than the car-thief. Our car was stolen Tuesday evening. Thanks to OnStar the Highway Patrol located and recovered it by 8:00 p.m. We were told it was towed to M&M in Carthage, MO and once the MSHP released it, we could pick it up. The Highway Patrol didn't release the car until Thursday and we picked it up on Saturday morning. Easy peasy, right? Wrong! First off, the $45 PER DAY storage fee isn't pro-rated. Even though the car arrives at 9pm on Tuesday and leaves before noon on Saturday, we were charged for both full entire days as well as the two days MSHP held it. Remember, it wasn't my idea to store the car. Some jerk stole it. The Highway Patrol had to process it. I had no control over these situations, so being stuck with $150 in storage fees for days I couldn't even go get the car was really unfair. Adding further insult to injury, the pie faced cow behind the counter wouldn't take a credit card and was super rude about it. "Cash only and exact change." Who does business like this? Gangsters, that's who. Come to think of it, she did kind of look like Tony Soprano. At least the car was stored indoors for $45 per day. Should be in great condition, right? Wrong again! The driver's side mirror was missing, the hood covered in scratches, a huge scrape and dent on the front bumper that obviously happened when it was towed. The damage is literally right above the tow point and the MSHP said the vehicle wasn't damaged when it was stopped, so there's no other time or place it could have happened. Did we get an apology? Maybe a coupon to at least have the car washed? A refund of a day or two? No, of course not. Tony Soprano behind the counter said there was nothing she could do and directed us to the Troop D building across the street - which of course, is closed on Saturday. Rather than wait around working the phones for a refund we probably weren't going to get anyway, we took our violated car home, sadder, poorer and much, much wiser. If I could give these guys less than one star I would. A few years back we were driving through torrential rain in the area. My car died due to water getting in to the carburetor. M&M towed our car to their garage. As we arrived I noticed a very irritated woman was leaving the business. M&M then dropped us off at a gas station to wait for repairs, we were left there for three hours. When they picked us up I was told that they parked my vehicle in the garage to "let it dry", and that was all they did as far as repair. For the tow and "repair" we were charged $200 (I now understand the irritation of the woman earlier) - completely gouged and at the mercy of M&M. To add insult to injury, the owner insisted on a cash payment and wouldn't allow me to leave with my car to get to a bank. Leaving my wife in our car, he had "a friend" over in her busted up T-top Camaro, reeking of smoke, to drive me to "another friends" business so I could use my credit card to get a cash advance to pay him for gouging me when I needed help. This guy was a real piece of work. I still drive through the area two or three times a year. Thanks to this yahoo I make sure I never spend a dime in the Joplin/Carthage area - no gas, no food, none of my money goes to this community. If this is how travelers are treated by this community I don't need to see it again. I hope the local chamber is aware of the practices of this unfortunate "businessman". From looking around, sounds like these guys have a history of overcharging and being generally difficult to work with. read more
