In fact, if this were only a convenience store, it might only merit two stars. Given the fact that Darlington Market harbors a stealth Middle Eastern market, they've earned at least four stars. For me, the big draw here is the spices...enormous pint and quart containers of allspice, cardamom, rosemary, za'atar, you name it...everything needed for Middle Eastern cooking, at ridiculously, absurdly low prices. Their other specialty items are also very inexpensive, including jars of grape leaves (roll-your-own dolmades!), shisha for hookahs, halvah, tahini, labneh, and on and on it goes. There's even a refrigerated deli case for perishables, and boxes of fresh baklava and other sweets. For price and selection, these guys are hard to beat, and are friendly and generous to boot!

Its cheerful exterior is very inviting, and it features some unusual architecture (it was an old, yet futuristic-looking gas station at one time, apparently). In addition to a basic selection of drinks, snacks and groceries, it has a small deli counter, where you can purchase either deli meats, or made-to-order deli sandwiches, both very reasonably priced. I did see a very small selection of produce immediately to the left of the entrance. The section on the right presently appears to be used for storage (I'm not sure if it used to house a pizza operation mentioned in other reviews?). This market is diagonally across the street from the Modern Diner, another interesting piece of historical architecture. It's cool to see old buildings still around, whether they are being used for their original purpose, or re-purposed.

So the next time you go just pay by cash or go elsewhere. The store makes no money on utility payments with the exception when you pay your phone bill - I believe that charge is $1.50 or slightly higher. These people are hard working and spend many hours running the store so no reason to be vindictive towards them or their business.

She pointed out her ATM where I could get cash, and she could get another cut of my money but I declined. The only difference between myself and him is he is often in his white shirt and tie when he has been in there. Obviously, men in ties can be trusted not to bounce a check but others can't be trusted. So ridiculous this ignorant woman doesn't know that here in RI it's not so anonymous like NYC. You can't treat some people one way, and others another and figure they won't know each other and compare notes.
