They only have to have a $5.00 minimum, they put $10.00 into their account as a welcome, and they get reimbursed if they use an ATM at another bank and get charged a fee. The loan officer there, who was leaving to work at The First Bank of Greenwich, convinced me to apply with them instead. He promised to personally introduce me to the bank manager and a VP, which he did. At The First Bank of Greenwich, the VP required me to deposit $100K into an account in order to receive a $100K "secured" loan. Both the VP and the manager assured me that, within two weeks, this would be converted into a standard loan. That turned out to be a complete lie. Instead, they held onto my $100K for two months, during which I had no access to it, and ultimately informed me that they would not be approving any loan. When I decided to walk away and asked for my money back (I returned their $100K check, which I had never deposited elsewhere), they had the audacity to charge me $500 just to withdraw my own funds. In other words: they took $100K of my money, used it for two months, refused me the loan they promised, and then charged me $500 on the way out. I do not trust this bank and will never do business with them again.

They take the time to get to know their customers; they offer constructive suggestions for managing your accounts, and are infinitely patient for people like me who are sort of ditzy and have trouble keeping track of what's what... This is not limited to the New Fairfield branch, of course. I've used several other branches multiple times, and the staff at all of them is exactly the same. The Webster culture is one of competent, friendly customer service.
