I came here for a dip polish change and the woman doing my nails took 45 minutes using a tool to half take off the polish on my nails (black). She proceeded to dip light pink over them and when she finished it was extremely noticeable that she had essentially painted over a dark color. They looked ridiculous so I stopped her and asked her to please take it off and redo it. She was clearly bothered by this (which was ridiculous because they looked terrible) and proceeded to take off the gel in the same way as before. I finally asked her to wrap my nails to get the paint off like every other salon would do. She begrudgingly wrapped my nails and then took off the remaining paint but didn't bother to do it cleanly. It was an hour and 45 minutes at this point and I had no time to stay. They asked if I would want to come back (no) but I asked when they had availability and it was silent, then they told me I could go. I've never been so disrespected and this place is somewhere I've gone for years. They always overcharge which I've dealt with because usually I have a decent experience. This was anything but and frankly was embarrassing as they were laughing when I asked about availability. With as many great places there are to go now for nails that actually do more than paint, I will not be back. read more

This salon has a good selection of gel and traditional polishes, all of the fixtures are new, and the space is brightly lit. I came in for a pedicure and waited about 5 minutes before I was seated and seen to. All this was fine. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I felt completely rushed through my pedicure. It started out well, but the technician sped through everything and I ended up paying 33$ for a 15 minute pedicure. That's total time spent sitting the chair, from soaking my feet to top coat. I have been here before and had a much better experience so I was very surprised and irritated that I was passed on so quickly, especially when there was no one waiting. read more

Came here today after hearing mixed reviews but they were able to take me the earliest and I was in a time crunch. They exceeded expectations! I got a full set of acrylics and it was the quickest my nails have ever been done in my life at around 40 minutes total. She did an awesome job for how speedy it was I was shocked! This is a really nice salon (with what I hope are affordable prices). It's very modern, clean, and the staff is very friendly. They have a great selection of colors and also what's new this season for Essie and OPI. Service is fast, but not in a way that makes you feel cheated. Once my nails dried, I realized that some dust and debris from the heater had dried into the polish on both of my big toes, leaving me with a less than perfect pedicure. Having an even closer look, I noticed that the top coat was uneven and smeared by the way it was brushed on. My middle two toes are also not painted completely. The reason I had gone in for the pedicure was to have the sole of my foot exfoliated but now that I've examined it one hour later, it looks much worse than when I came in. I'm pretty OCD about my feet and toes. So honestly I want to take this off RIGHT NOW. But as to not feel like this was a complete waste of my time and money. Im going to try my best to ignore, since the least I did, was choose a nice color. I gracefully tipped and left. But I will not be coming back. So far, I'm still pretty convinced that the folks in Pittsburgh can't really get a simple pedicure right. After going to the same nail salon for 15+ years with the same tech, I recently moved and needed to either take my nails off or find a new place. I went to M nail salon on Walnut Street for a fix for my pink & white nails, and was suprised to find that only 1 tech in the shop did pink & white. I was told it wasnt popular in that area, but after giving me a fill and fixing my nail he told me to go to their other shop down the street on S Aiken and make an appointment with Amy or Linda. I made my appointment with Amy, and we discussed different options for my acrylic pink & white - and I ended up trying the pink & white dip. It was a very different experience especially after being used to the same person place and technique for so long. The dip is a lighter more natural feel, my pink and white was very clean and Amy told me about the different dip options and how many colors were available. I visited back today after about 3 weeks since my last fill and could not be more pleased. I went with a dip color, which Amy helped me to pick based on what I wanted. She is quick yet pays such close attention to detail. She remembered how I liked my nails shaped and the thickness and as particular as i am, all my nails are the same size and shape, very uniform and clean! I depend on Yelp reviews to help me decide on new places and hoping this will help someone else. Made appointment for 2 of us for a mani / pedi. Hold truth to the time of the appointment for one of us. The other had to sit in the water for pedi for extra time before someone came available. Did a great job on both our pedi and manis. Place was clean and had tons of choices. My friend had surgery about 2 months ago on her knee and they were super sensitive about it- good service. They were priced really well especially for shady side. A mani (gel) and a pedi was $55. Does have a private parking lot but it does get full. They prefer to tip in cash. read more

I've been here a few times over the years and I always tend regret it later. For the area (walnut st.), I really wish it were better quality because it's super convenient and on my way home from work, but it always leaves me under-whelmed. The inside is cramped and over-stimulating; I went in a few weeks ago with friends for mani/pedis and I I was literally tripping over other people and staff, equipment, etc. while the employee helping me looked at me like I was the idiot for needing room to put my bag and shoes. I also feel like every time I go here, the music is loud and obnoxious and not in the least relaxing; one of the employees is literally always on on her phone talking SUPER loud. This is the sort of salon I've always wanted to become a regular at but could never find. The staff is professional, personable, and most importantly good at what they do. I received a full set from a well known salon down the street on Centre not even two weeks before and noticed my nails were lifting. Totally pissed, I browsed yelp for some decent recommendations. This place is not only a short walk from my place but it also had lots of good reviews and pics of very cute manicures. I called and booked an appointment for after work. I walked in about 5 minutes before and there were about 7-8 nail techs all working away diligently and I wasn't greeted right away. I sat down and just chose my colors and waited until it was my turn. Though I didn't mention that I had an appointment, there were only two ladies ahead of me so I didn't mind the wait. One of the best things about this place was how bright, modern looking and clean it was. There was nice calming French music playing overhead and there were tons of higher end polishes to choose from. Just about everyone seemed to get a gel mani or pedi, but I just wanted a simple fill. My new favorite nail tech (who shall remain unnamed because I want to hoard her skills for my sole benefit) chatted me up and was really down to earth. She commented on the poor work that was done not even two weeks before at the other place and worked diligently to get my nails back in tip top shape. I don't get nail designs anymore but since I was feeling so good about her work I had her do some free hand design on a random nail. I absolutely love the little pop of something unexpected. The staff was great! They allowed us to bring breakfast and champagne to enjoy. The reviews are correct, this place is PACKED. They got me in right away without much wait but I did see someone who had an appointment wait at least 30 min. My nails were done perfectly. The tech seriously knows what she is doing. Almost as good as home! My only complaint is how quick it was. I know they were busy but I would have liked a little more time to relax. Maybe I've been spoiled with the nail salons back home in Philly, but this place wasn't that great. For one, I don't like or trust establishments that don't have their prices posted. They weren't available online or in the salon. Also, I didn't think it was exactly the cleanest place. When I sat down for my manicure (in the very flat & uncomfortable chair) I noticed a lot of nail clippings on the floor from previous clients. Ty is fantastic - I was waiting for my appointment to begin, not acknowledged by anyone for the 15 minutes I waited, until Ty walked in to the salon and greeted me with a warm hello and guided me to a seat. He did a wonderful job shaping my nails, and he took plenty of time to ensure they were just as I wanted them to be, even doing an extra coat because he thought it would look more well done. I arrived about 20 minutes before 7 pm (when they close) and was welcomed in to the salon. The atmosphere was quiet. The employees were polite and pleasant. The prices are higher than the going rates for pedicures in this city. They charge $30 for the standard pedicure, $40 for a mani-pedi, and the prices go up from there. Bring cash for the tip. Please don't patronize this business. In addition to being rude and unconcerned with time, they endanger the welfare of children. I was in this nail salon today, December 26th 2015. There was two minors, ages approximately ten years and 18 months, that appeared to be children of the employees. They were both exposed to chemical fumes related to polishes and chemicals used for nail care. They also had access to all of these chemicals, plus the instruments used for nail care, with little supervision. Since they seemed very familiar with the business, I would suspect they spend a significant amount of time there. Consequently, I am concerned for the welfare of these children and the long-term effects of their frequent exposure to chemical fumes. read more

I like M Nail Salon! The salon is clean and the folks that work there are always nice, including the owners. I use to go to the sister place Envy but this location is closer for me and parking at the other location was a hassle. I agree that wait times could be better (one way to avoid this is to go during off peak times like avoid lunch or after work) but this is for sure one of the better places in the area for nails. Great selection of OPI, Etsy and Chinaglaze plus gel. They take credit cards though not sure if you can include tip - I always tip in cash. read more

I used to like going to M Nails and have been to both Aiken Ave and Walnut St branches many times. But now, I can see both places going downhill. Service is not what it used to be, attitude has changed. The employees look kind of bored and don't focus on the job as they used to. I asked one of the workers what is different and she said that all of the attention is being paid to the new place opening in Aspinwall. So no longer the welcoming bowl of candy, no longer the clean floor, no longer washing out the pedi tub between clients as required by law! I noticed that the instruments are not even being sterilized as they used to be. Some kind of liquid was squirted on them and then they were quickly wiped off with paper towel. That is not enough to sterilize instruments! And it's not legal to do it like that either. People who rate the salons just talk about the end result, are the nails pretty or not, and are not even noticing that the state-required hygiene and safety is not up to par. They can be transferring all sorts of diseases from one client to another. I'm looking for another salon asap! read more

Found my new nail salon in the city! I was in desperate need of a manicure after just doing my own nails for about 6 months. My cuticles were feeling the cold weather and needed some TLC, so I headed to M-Nail Salon on the recommendation of my best friend. I called that day and got an appointment for the same evening. The parking lot is adjacent to the salon which is amazing considering parking in Shadyside can be tough. I walked in and was greeted right away by one of the techs and had a seat. I saw 3 or 4 sets of color samples on the coffee table so I started looking for my color... I found one that was acceptable and was called back to the nail station within a few minutes. I showed the tech the color I picked, but then she showed me the entire BOX of color samples that was next to her station. Apparently the client before me just hadn't put the box back on the coffee table. There are lots of bottles of polish in the waiting area that you can look at, but I don't believe the gel brands are up there as the tech actually had to go to the back to retrieve my chosen gel color. So if you go and don't see a huge variety of colors to pick from: ASK. There are almost tooooo many once you get the box of nail goodness! Anyway, I had a great, thorough manicure and some light conversation with my tech. She was young, energetic, and diligent about making sure my nails looked perfect before polishing them. Two weeks later and they are still in pristine condition, save for the one tiny chip that showed up yesterday. Even after doing a lot of "no-no" stuff with this manicure like cleaning, washing dishes (without gloves), and painting, they still look perfect! I can't wait to go back tomorrow for a fresh manicure for the holiday season. A full gel manicure runs $30, not including a soak-off. Also to note: they do not accept tips on cards! They actually request you make your entire payment in cash if possible, and there is an ATM right next door if you need it! read more

My finger was immediately infected after a manicure. I watched them reuse the cuticle clipper to use on my hand and have had to have my finger drained of pus twice this week. Called them to let them know and they told me they clean everything and weren't going to change their procedures. read more

I was very displeased with my manicure. My mani/pedi experience at the salon was fine, but the worst part was that my manicure chipped after less than one day! I was unfamiliar with the brand of nail polish selection they use, so I picked a color closest to my usual color (looks like ballet slippers by Essie -- light pink). 3 days later, my nail color completely changed to a strange purple color with a sort of dark black coating! I don't know what kind of polish or topcoat products they are using, but I am very unsatisfied. I just removed the polish from my nails 3 days after getting my manicure because it is simply not the color I selected. read more
